- Written by Eric Stefani and recorded during No Doubt's demo sessions for their debut album, "Up Yours" was released solely on the compilation 'California Skaquake' in 1992 by Moon Records. Though live versions usually featured this song as a duet between vocalists Gwen Stefani and Alan Meade, the recorded version only has Gwen on the track.

In my opinion.. No Doubt’s best Ska song! A classic. I wish it were more widely known

It's technically ska punk not ska music from the late 1950s LoL but it's still a good song

Once Eric left his group they were never the same, his Two-Tone influence on Gwen and the band was just overwhelming. Eric was really that good. Kinda makes you wonder what could have been? I think they would have been the darlings of the Ska-Core 3rd wave of Ska and retained their popularity within the scene. But they went a different direction, they didn't quit and they took over the world on their terms. You may not like the turn they made but ya gotta respect their drive and musical ability. No Doubt was a tight fucking band and still is. Gwen became a beacon to all the Hollywood types once she married Gavin and they started to shower her with opportunities. She let her artistic self blossom and turned it into 150 Million dollar net worth. Did she sell out? Nahhh... Gwen has always lived in the moment and did stuff that made her happy. 2016 was the last No Doubt reunion concerts and they sounded great. They will never be their old selves and I would love for them and I to go back in time and relive the magical time when No Doubt was a real Ska band but I like what they have become as people. Never have you heard any drama from No Doubt. Dem good people and that's gotta count for something. #ska4eva
With Eric in the band they might have never left the garage. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore their bootlegs like this, ND, and BSC. Hell, check out his youtube channel, he has a song about Farm Town that is super duper catchy.
However, he is a big goofball. Even on Tragic Kingdom, songs like "different people" were not destined for huge success. The lyrics are super wordy and detached, not very personal or emotional. Gwen is actually a good writer too, she turned the original awkward "don't speak" into a mega sensation. Again, dont get me wrong, I like his accordion playing on that, but with lyrics like "I can see it all in an eye blink" or "its nothing new that i've heard". The original bridge was pretty bad too. Gwen has a way of writing simple teenage girl bored and sad in her room type lyrics that is a different skill all together, even if it isn't as technically impressive. she builds mega hits around simple lyrics like "i know we're cool" or "im really lucky underneath it all".
Eric was writing goofy songs in the vein of old ska bands or Madness. Ache (badass funk jam... about a toothache). Move on... which has super corny lyrics about being a band and finding a new garage to jam in. Or "sinking" which crosses row row row your boat with anti-alcohol lyrics. And I fuckin love it. As much as I wish we had more, I probably would have never heard about them if Eric had stayed.
For the record, I dont think they sold out. All artists grow up and develop. Gwen was listening to Madness when she was like 10 years old. Of course she's going to branch out and do new stuff like Rock Steady and her solo records.
I also appreicate that they are all straight edge and 0 drama.. other than the gwenxtony stuff ahhaa of course. But yeah they seem like good clean kids who fucking rock. Super tight band, especially on beacon street.

I don't know why I hate Gwen Stefani. But a friend told me that the 1st album was great and different. I told him "I won't discriminate, I'll try them" and this song ended with rhytm in my veins. Very nice tune.
