    Great review, I just ordered this saw due to a great deal on Amazon Prime day. Looking forward to using it. I have never owned a DeWalt table saw, but they have a great reputation. I have the Ridgid table saw with the folding legs which I really like, but sometimes I don't want to roll out that big saw. I think that DeWalt may have been forced to change their power switch due to OSHA regulations, just like they had to change to stance on the "feet" to make it more stable. Can't wait for the price of wood to get to an affordable place so I can start working on some new projects. Thanks again.

    Hi Wes, good review - very informative and helpful. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make and upload!! Question - is there the facility of being able to lock down the blade height adjustment? I don't mean the bevel angle, I mean the height adjustment. And is there a way of locking the fence in position after moving? Keep up great videos!!

    I own a woodworking buissness and initally bought this saw when my other died as it had great reviews and I needed a table saw asap at the time. Personally I think the on/off buttons are perfect , the button to turn it on is a good size and better yet the tun off button is super easy to click when you reaching down and cant see. The only thing i don't like about the saw, is that the actual table on the top is quite small, even compared to the old 10" model its quite a difference

    Great review. I just got one yesterday after a couple of weeks doing research as to what to get. Used it today to make a base for it and I think it's great. You are right about the on and off button but I guess will have to deal with it. But overall it is a great little saw.

Went to order one then find it has been superceded by the DWE7485. You told me everything I wanted to know in under 10 mins without any unnecessary waffling so I shall be ordering one of these. Close to $800 in Australia this was still a good buy and well worth it. No regret, I simply love the ease of setup and accuracy not to mention the small form. No adjustments were needed. Add $149 for the dual Airlock system and it gathers up the dust very well from top and bottom simultaneously. I have yet to try the 60T blade I bought for it because the standard blade cuts just fine with minimal chipping.

    Very good saw with a few minor issues, that can even be solved with aftermarket products.
    However in this price range, the key here is that fence, nothing is better. Even on more expensive saws I've yet to see such a great fence.

    • @WesHamstra
      @WesHamstra  3 года назад +1

      That’s very true. I have noticed that Milwaukee’s job site saw has a shockingly similar fence to the dewalt. Almost identical. Makes me wonder if they both come from the same factory and paint one red and the other yellow

    • @blahdiblah2169
      @blahdiblah2169 3 года назад

      @@WesHamstra Yeah the Bosch GTS 10 XC on paper seems more refined, until you start looking at RUclips reviews from people that own that saw and there are some glaring quality issues.
      Soft start is nice, solvable with a cheap soft start mod sold on Amazon for the Dewalt.
      The gimmick of a mitre gauge that comes with the Dewalt can be upgraded using a product sold from Banggood which fits the track and has stops for common angles.
      Another thing is dust collection, the Dewalt is seriously much better than the Bosch in this regard.
      For all the talk about not being able to fit a router table to the Dewalt, there are people on RUclips who've done just this or build custom extensions and workbenches that support the rack n pinion fence. Slightly more complicated but at the end of the day if you can work with wood should be no problem.
      Let's also not forget the quick release for blade guard or riving knife. That's so much better than having to open up the saw each time you want to swap them out.
      I just have a generally good feeling from the Dewalt, sure it's not a Sawstop or a Festool, but in the price range, it's not easy to beat.

    Thank you for the information. I recently purchased this saw and have never had a table saw before. After going through the instructions, I see that you didn't add the anti-kickback piece and left the riving knife on. I also noticed you didn't add the blade guard assembly, which is a must have for me. My question is why did you leave the riving knife on and not add the anti-kickback piece and what is the purpose of the riving knife? I obviously have a lot to learn as there are many terms in the manual that don't mean a thing to me, however, hopefully over time and use I will learn. Thank you in advance.

    • @wongowonga
      @wongowonga 3 года назад +3

      I'm not exactly a pro although I have been using a 3 phase saw for many many hours. The riving knife is to help prevent kickback by helping keep the material perpendicular to the fence. If the riving knife was not there and you accidentally twist the material as you push it past the blade it could jam between the fence and the blade and then there is only one way out... i.e launching it out the front of the saw like a missile. It's no joke if this happens, people often loose a finger of two in this situation or break a rib, or worse. It's well worth learning how to use a table saw properly, there are many bad demos on YT of people doing very risky stuff (like cross cutting against the fence or pulling the material back towards you after the cut is made)
      However, if you respect it and know what you're doing, there is no need to be scared of it, just as the guy that made this video demonstrated very well.

      Hi Rock, when you rip cut (cut solid wood along the grain) one of three things can happen: 1) The kerf (the gap cut by the saw blade) can open up. 2) The kerf can stay the same if the wood stays straight. 3) The kerf can close up behind the saw blade causing it to bind or pinch the blade. If it pinches the blade, the wood will "kickback" (be thrown back) towards the machinist - YOU! This can cause injury to the operator and damage the work. The riving knife keeps the kerf from closing up behind the saw blade. In Great Briton, if you remove the riving knife and have an accident, you will be fired, and be prosecuted as it's illegal. The only time I remove the riving knife is to create grooves - no kickback!

    0:47 - 8.25" blades are harder to find than 10" blades. While the smaller blades may be cheaper than a larger blade in the same range of the same brand, only a handful of higher-end companies even offer the 8.25.

    Never seen an indent on a miter guide. If it had an indent for 90 degrees, if you wanted 89.5 degrees it might be difficult to avoid the 90 degree indent.
    My Chinese bought version (all metal) has adjustable rail guide width so I have it snug but easy to move along the slots. The on button needs to be small to meet OH&S rules. Similarly the off button needs to be BIG.

    • @WesHamstra

      Under the table there is a lever. If you flick that down it locks the fence.
