- "Thoomani Maadathu" - Episode 1 of "Sessions from The Space". Sessions from The Space is a series of up close and personal renditions from Agam as we embark on a journey in search of the rich and varied musical and linguistic heritage of South India through the medium of Carnatic Music.
Based on the 9th Paasuram of Thiruppavai by Shri Aandal (7th Century CE ) composed by Shri. Ariyakkudi Ramanuja Iyengar (1890 - 1967 ) in raaga Hamir Kalyani, set to Aadi taalam ( 16 beat cycle )

Andal never composed the pasurams to these ragams, it was only done much later. Andal only wrote the beautiful poems

@@qkbarbland4332 She did sing these songs, while singing the glories of Narayana in her temple town. However, unfortunately those tunes have not been preserved in the oral tradition in later years. What you are saying is indeed true, the poems were later set to tunes by different musicians over the years. The ones which are popular today were largely set to tune by the legendary musician, 'Ariyakkudi' Ramanuja Iyengar.

Got a lifetime opportunity to meet these amazing people 3 months ago. Probably the best fan moment of my life.
Whatever may be the raag, right from Shudha dhanyasi to aahiri to now hamir kalyani, their songs create an envelope of interest in me, to explore those raagas further, thanks to the beautiful rendition and architecture of the sounds. Every note is knit soulfully and mixed flawlessly. Their songs reach straight to the heart, at least for me!

I don't know whether you will ever read the message but if at all you read the message, goddess Saraswati has blessed all of you so much. Don't make us wait so long for your next song. We are all eagerly waiting for your next masterpiece. My three year old daughter listen to your song and go to sleep. When she is restless your song is the magic. I’m a Telugu, having good level in Tamizh. Got amazed to listen Siva’s perfect prononciation of this song. Even « born Tamizh » people do not pronounce correctly in Tamil Nadu and they never try to improve it. Appreciation to all Malayali siblings.
