Ok so I am ordering my tortoise, tomorrow!!! I'm getting a Russian Tortoise, of course. And this is my first reptile I guess you could say. I am so excited I wanted one for christmas. Buy It wasn't a good time, then I asked for one in February for my birthday, still not a good time. So I have saved up 700 dollars for my tortoise! I am so excited to get him!
That is incredibly expensive for a russian tortoise, but it sounds like you already ordered him? In that case, I wish you good luck with your new pet. I would recommend that you keep on doing research every day so you can provide your tortoise with the best life possible! They are wonderful animals and I hope you enjoy yours.
+RussianTorts Thank you! He is not 700 dollars that is money I have saved up to build him a table and decorate it, ect. Plus the food and water bowls are kinda pricey. 15-20 dollars each depending on brand and size.
Great video, straight to the point, it's been difficult to find a video where someone hasn't been camera shy showing us exactly in detail what they feed their torts! Your torts diet is basically 80% kale and topper with a few mixes in there, the ideal almost perfect diet! Too many people over complicate it because they they think the human way. "Theres only like 3 things to feed my tort.....kale....this bag of topper and dandelions now and then........naaa I'm gonna throw tomatoes in there and peppers.....lettuce so s/he doesnt get bored!" Tortoises do not eat like us, horsfields do not need fruit people! They never have and probably never will, so why go there? LoL they're torts and not humans!" Sorry I rambled....once again, great video, healthy looking tortoise (which is always the first thing I look at before taking advice) Vilen dank!
Please answer! Hi, does the coconut substrate has to be dry or damp? Should I spray it with water to damp it , how often-everyday? One more question, I want to plant my plants straight into the enclosure so should I place soil underneath the coconut substrate? And won't the basic soil for flowers harm my tortoise? Thanks for your time!
+godzilla 154 I would normally agree, however, if one lives in the city (like I do) none of the weeds here are actually safe to feed appart from the ones you grow yourself. There is no way for me to know if the city uses pesticides in their parks, if a dog took a leak where I'm picking the weeds, etc. THis way I'm staying safe
I dont have a garden. And when do the vegtables go bad. How many times a week should i buy vegtables and which ones. I can only go to whole foods or trader joes
do u always have to feed that natural tortoise food for every meal, even when they are fully grown? Also how often do u feed your russian tortoise tortoise pellets?
I don't feed pellets (as you can see in this video). I feed Dandelions, kale, collard greens and romaine lettuce and for each meal top it off with some dried herbs
+RussianTorts I thought they need tortoise pellets? Also what would u do if your tortoise habitat is outside and then it rains hard and floods your whole habitat!?
I never and i will never feed my tort with pellets, buying fresh leafs/ harvesting from clean places like out of town is much better *or just grow them in the pot* and...just look at them and imagine your lil tort eating those tough pellets...nah
+Kyana Espinoza I do it about every second day. But sometimes it ends up being every 3 days and sometimes it's every day. But on average it is every 2 days
+Jennifer Trepasso yes, she does. She bit my stepdad in the toe once and made him bleed. My theory is that she is wild caught and that is why she is aggressive. I do not know though as my friend found her running around in germany (where they are not native) and gave her to me.
If you do that in the city you risk poisioning your pet. If you live in the country side, I agree, there are much better wild flowers and herbs to feed your pet
My tortoise doesn’t that but 🙏 so much for this video
Hey thanks for making the vid!
+Jared Pletcher I'm glad you like it

Gertrude · from what I’ve read it says that they are desert tortoises which means they don’t need moisture so I think you don’t need to spray it.
not sure if you’re aware but his nails need to be cut pretty bad. I let mine walk outside on the cement everyday and his are fine
Oh thank u for commenting this, I’m try8ng to get a Russian tortoise but I’m worried about his beak and his nails. THANK U
Where can I buy it?
you should try puting some weeds from out side to give it some wild flavor and there good for her

They do not need pellets. You can use pellets to add to their diet, but it is not necessary

What kind of calcium powder do you use ?
How often do you put calcium power on her meal?
+Kyana Espinoza I do it about every second day. But sometimes it ends up being every 3 days and sometimes it's every day. But on average it is every 2 days
How often do you feed her
+ConsBallPythons once a day in the morning
+RussianTorts thanks and great video keep it up
Does she really bite? Mine doesn't bite at all
And thanks for the idea of using a plant saucer for a food dish!
+Jennifer Trepasso yes, she does. She bit my stepdad in the toe once and made him bleed. My theory is that she is wild caught and that is why she is aggressive. I do not know though as my friend found her running around in germany (where they are not native) and gave her to me.
"Grocery store" Just go outside like i do to pick herbs and grass theres tons of wild good food.
If you do that in the city you risk poisioning your pet. If you live in the country side, I agree, there are much better wild flowers and herbs to feed your pet
I go by car out into the countryside to pick several bags for my 3 ones. to provide them a varied diet.
How much food should I feed my russian tortoise?
The amount of food they get should be the size of their shell
When a tortoise is angry it is not happy whit something
Will it hurt my Russian tortoise if I go in my back yard and pick foods for her instead of going and buying it? I live out in the country Btw
depends. How long have you lived there and in the time that you have lived there have pesticides been used in the yard?
+RussianTorts I have lived here for about a year and no pesticides that I know of
you should be safe then. Make sure to wash the greens thoroughly anyway
+RussianTorts okay, thank you so much
I also recommend freezing the food say 12 hours so that all bacteria and bugs are killed
Haha me n my aggressive ass tortoise
my tortoise died
How old was he/she?
