Seo played flawlessly!!! She is outstanding!!!! Earl has not lost his skill. Simply put, he was given no opportunity to play. What he has lost (or never had) is the good sense to recognize a warm gesture and respond in kind. Serious fail there Earl. I guess an Earl scorn is a roseless thorn. Sad.
Earl stated "..you don't want to touch me, I'm bad luck.." Earl fist bumped both her and the referee. If it was Earl trying to hug her and she turned him down, how would you then think about Earl?
@@chrisolson3240I agree in part. I went back and watched a couple matches. Earl didn't even shake hands, let alone give hugs, to anyone else. It seems he is genuinely concerned about covid still. Which is his right, regardless of how anyone feels. The issue is, he is known for b.s. so we all assume the worst. He has also earned that.
you one of those who hide indoors wearing 8 masks shivering and worried about catching co vid yet think someone else has to get it by hugging strangers?
This is a professional event, not a family outing. Nobody is obligated to hug anyone. I personally would have no issues giving someone a hug, specially if they were a big fan like she obviously is. Seo was by no means wrong for what she did, but running over to hug your opponent after beating them is by no means professional either. People need to stop trying to burn Earl at the stake simply because he didn't want to hug someone that just mopped the floor with him.
I am happy for Seo and a little embarrassed for Earl. She had a few favorable rolls but overall, played well. She took advantage of every opportunity she was given. Earl hasn’t changed much and could have shown a little class. Damn, the young lady was just trying to be nice about beating you. I’ve always enjoyed watching Earl but he didn’t need to do that. I think even Jason was embarrassed for him.
If the roles were reversed and she declined, she be called brave and the woke mob would be asking why did he think he could hug her to begin with. Besides, not all people liked to be hugged.
If Earl had even an average competitive mind with his physical talent, he would've been the greatest pool player in history. He never grew and, consequently, maintains the emotional stability of an 8-year-old. He let his ego handcuff his unbelievable talent.
Rewatched the end and I don't know if that was more awkward for Earl or for Seo. Anyway kudos to the ref for reassuring Seo not to take it personally. I guess it's true what they say: Never meet (beat?) your heroes.
I'm not defending Earl's attitude, but this is nine ball flukes are a huge part of this game. but the fluke was off of a safty that was very hard to hit safe plus he actually hit the que ball to make that fluke, seems like you didn't notice that. it's called a hit and hope and it works as much as it doesn't. Really Seo played amazing defense. But Earl was really unlucky had some really good breaks, Dry yes but good that allowed Seo to run out. and the Carrom off the 7 into the 8 really unlucky for that not to drop. The safty he played in the bottom left hand corner that should have snookered Soe on the 1 ball. stopped in the only place where she could have hit it. yes she scratched but still made it and that's fustrating. I wouldn't say Soe annihilated him, he didn't really miss anything she just had amazing Safety's and put the balls down when she got a chance. I guarantee the score would have been alot different had balls dropped on the break for Earl. but this is the game of Nine ball and the one person who Know's the importance of the break better than anyone is Earl. I just don't like people who say the only reason you won is because _________. which is what you're saying.
I'm pretty sure Strickland was so confident that he would win this match, that's why he was so devastated he lost, not only lost it was a massacre.(5-1)!
Seo has such a good rhythm to her game. It's a calm, methodical pace that never feels forced or rushed. And the pace on her cue ball control is amazing. Good lesson for her - players, men and women, can be competitive and in no mood for hugs when they get smoked.
Actually turns out Earl had an accident that is more common in gentlemen of a certain age, and was merely sparing the young lady getting too close to his wet spot. He even took her for a steak dinner later that night. Class act.
a lot of people are giving earl a hard time about the no hug thing and i think its a little silly. some people arent huggers or physically affectionate people. older men are known for being like this. he left home really early so im guessing he didnt get a lot of that kind of love. also especially autistic people. im not saying he is but the way he talks in some interviews makes me feel like he is a little bit. anyways, he did give her a fist bump after she won. he got up out of his seat to address her. he did not just get up and start packing his stuff up to leave. he stood up with the intent on addressing her and acknowledging her victory in his way. and i feel like to a degree that after the fist bump that she felt sympathy for beating him and wanted to give him a hug to make him feel better? (i can only speculate as everyone else is but im not assuming that my scenario in the psychology is the way it is for a fact like most are) but maybe he didnt want her sympathy? he does seem like he has a certain type of pride and code regarding pool. hes lost a lot and he doesnt care to lose. he dont want to and hes competitive but if he does he does. and i feel like he thinks like, "if youre going to beat me beat me and move on". and like giving him a hug in some way even if its a genuine sympathetic response is actually like rubbing it in a bit? possibly. one can only speculate. to assume the way you see it is THE WAY IT IS is a little arrogant. we dont know these people.
He was complimenting her. He said, "you're breaking better than me" then he told her "you don't want to touch me" meaning that his bad play would rub off on her.
Earl has got the skills but I think she's a technically better player, calculating every move, a class one too, even noticed some 'Efren' styles ..her method is surgical, and that hug is an Asian way of expressing gratitude and Earl is not up to it, poor thing it must've made everybody happy

NOOOOOOOO, HE IS JUST A RACIST. IF HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONCERNED ABOUT COVID HE WOULN'T HAVE BEEN THERE WITHOUT A MASK ON HIS FACE OR HE WOULDN'T HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP.
to be fair a man his age could die from covid
@@batman30351 As if that were the case, he would play in a mask and not touch the table that Seo touched
If she was white, he would have never said that racist Covid remark. What little respect I already had for Earl has gone out the window
Strickland is a first class 🔔 end. The beautiful Seo showed him how to play.
That was so disrespectful for Strickland to rebuff her in that way. I can't help to think that his ego was deflated. She is a great pool player and an equally great human being.
No he just has some neuro problems, he cant control much if hes mad
Seo is a beautiful person with a huge heart and beautiful soul...... Shame on you earl.... Nothing in this world could make me like this guy.
Seo Seoa is so clinical. It's scary! If she can keep her nerves and perform like that (break always being the joker), she can beat anyone!
I haven't seen her in a tactical defensive pool battle yet in different pool game formats.
@@pinedastaglio6500 I have no doubt that she can hold her own in that aspect of the game too. I will be paying close attention to her in the future. Clearly a huge talent
Nope. Her safety game is very weak. No chance against the top players. And also her position play is not good enough for guy's with Fargo above 790.
@@udtojanpestillos2094 Interesting. Her positional play was near perfect against Earl. Please point to some of her most glaring mistakes
i like her too, but i have to admit that she's too machine-like for my taste. she's very mechanical and soooo deliberate. she doesn't really have any style on the table. kind of boring to watch, except for the fact that she wins. i'm impressed by how well composed she is regardless of who her opponent is, but i find myself just wanting to skip ahead and see who won.
proud of your great deal to pool , and love your smooth easy stroke , speed timming just enough
Sad.
A roseless thorn. I like that. Well put!
He had several opportunities, but failed to play effective safeties.
Earl stated "..you don't want to touch me, I'm bad luck.." Earl fist bumped both her and the referee. If it was Earl trying to hug her and she turned him down, how would you then think about Earl?
He fails to recognize the respect extended to him in that gesture. Instead, he sees it as a pity hug. You're right, sad.
I've never heard of or seen Seo Seoa but I will say she is a very strong shooter, steady and smooth. A pleasure to watch her.
Like or not, Earl, needs to act like a pro. Not a child 👦, and he is old enough to do it☝️☝️☝️
you one of those who hide indoors wearing 8 masks shivering and worried about catching co vid yet think someone else has to get it by hugging strangers?
@@jadezee6316 is it because she's Asian
Amen....shit gets old with him.
Getting to the point I don't care to watch anymore.
@@jadezee6316 I saw him wearing a mask while driving alone
This is a professional event, not a family outing. Nobody is obligated to hug anyone. I personally would have no issues giving someone a hug, specially if they were a big fan like she obviously is. Seo was by no means wrong for what she did, but running over to hug your opponent after beating them is by no means professional either. People need to stop trying to burn Earl at the stake simply because he didn't want to hug someone that just mopped the floor with him.
She really shoots good. Anyone who doesn't miss, is hard to beat.
You can't show a little class if you have no class. Strickland is still the arrogant prick he's always been.
There's no law you have to hug an opponent, imagine if it was turned around, eww, earls a creep, see how this double standard is.
She plays so beautifully, precise and calculated. I think she's a robot :-)
Hey Earl, not everyone that plays pool is ugly .huh.
Stunning
Dont take it personally 😂 i wanna hug this Girl ❤
Lol the way he acted. He was probably sour that she dominated him. I'd still give her a long big hug even if I lost 0-20 to her
great play by Seo... earl has always been like this "bad sportsmanship" & it hasn't been really called out. legends don't do that
If Earl had even an average competitive mind with his physical talent, he would've been the greatest pool player in history. He never grew and, consequently, maintains the emotional stability of an 8-year-old. He let his ego handcuff his unbelievable talent.
Man her shots are so clean and precise 😮
Rewatched the end and I don't know if that was more awkward for Earl or for Seo. Anyway kudos to the ref for reassuring Seo not to take it personally. I guess it's true what they say: Never meet (beat?) your heroes.
Majestic to watch she is, so calm.
Seo is an assassin! A pretty one at that
This girl is very pretty! Many men would not have been able to resist hugging her like Earl did.
Total annihilation by Seo. Well played! Earl even had to get a fluke to get on the scoreboard. Why she would even want to hug him is beyond me!
Ah... One of the more enjoyable Strickland matches over the years 😅
Meaning it was short, right?
I'm pretty sure Strickland was so confident that he would win this match, that's why he was so devastated he lost, not only lost it was a massacre.(5-1)!
Strickland has all the class of a frog. A great person to represent our country in international competition
A bit of an insult to the frog, there.
to hell with Strickass , she played very well.
and I would Love to hug her !!
I have watched and played a lot of billiards over the years. This was the most perfect execution I have ever seen. Almost like watching AI play.
She seems like the sweetest girl ever and humble. She can also crush her opponents just like this.
I have a dream Mika and Jeff went to a match again in other tournaments and again they didn't shake hands. lol
Good to see earl still doing his thing
It's funny 🤣how Seo was so excited to hug Earl and he just kept picking up his gear and leaving
Seo has such a good rhythm to her game. It's a calm, methodical pace that never feels forced or rushed. And the pace on her cue ball control is amazing. Good lesson for her - players, men and women, can be competitive and in no mood for hugs when they get smoked.
Earl is no longer the pearl but crazy old man
well he's always been a bloody loon to be fair.
young or old. he's never had one bit of class in him.
a big hug for you Seo Seoa.. 😘😘 you are the best Seo.. love u
What a pathetic lapse of sportsmanship by Strickland. Reflects poorly on our country. And what a remarkable performance by Seoa. A masterclass.
Actually turns out Earl had an accident that is more common in gentlemen of a certain age, and was merely sparing the young lady getting too close to his wet spot. He even took her for a steak dinner later that night. Class act.
what the hell does this have to do with the country? it just a pool game''''Cheese And Rice''
@@lew115 and banged her'''LOL
a lot of people are giving earl a hard time about the no hug thing and i think its a little silly. some people arent huggers or physically affectionate people. older men are known for being like this. he left home really early so im guessing he didnt get a lot of that kind of love. also especially autistic people. im not saying he is but the way he talks in some interviews makes me feel like he is a little bit. anyways, he did give her a fist bump after she won. he got up out of his seat to address her. he did not just get up and start packing his stuff up to leave. he stood up with the intent on addressing her and acknowledging her victory in his way. and i feel like to a degree that after the fist bump that she felt sympathy for beating him and wanted to give him a hug to make him feel better?
Seo was terrific. Strickland has no hint of class, never has.
He was complimenting her. He said, "you're breaking better than me" then he told her "you don't want to touch me" meaning that his bad play would rub off on her.
Omg the way they where snookering each other in the 2.nd rack that's tactics at its absolute best
Love him or hit him, but Earl IS a character. Seoa played amazing and deserved this win. Continue playing magnificent like this.
Aight I’ll hit ‘em
Very nice play by the young lady. As for Mr. Strickland, I believe Thumper said it best.
Well deserved win for Seo, just because Earl lost vs a good player doesn't make him any less of a legend, I just wish Earl would see it that way...
He's a legend alright...a legend at being nasty and unsporting!
I believe that on a rematch, she will dominate him again.
@@segogandoel3216 He does not deserve a rematch.
Thats vintage Earl....Great win...what can you say he is what he is.
Earl has got the skills but I think she's a technically better player, calculating every move, a class one too, even noticed some 'Efren' styles ..her method is surgical, and that hug is an Asian way of expressing gratitude and Earl is not up to it, poor thing it must've made everybody happy
She has such a sweet, simple, smooth stroke. Very deadly. I see her going far!
Love him or hate him we will watch Earl play. Get the Pearl on more matchroom events. Great to watch and his break improved as the week went on. It held it back in the beginning though
I watch him only for his mad outbursts 😆
Who's this "we" got crabs?

What a beautiful hustler from South Korea beating an american legend Bravo Seo.
Earl, is our world's Van Gogh of pool... In more ways than one
Is he going to cut off his ear? Wa?
Just like Larry David said when creating a sitcom, “No lessons. And absolutely NO hugs!”
Strickland was in the Korea war, but he was against the South Korea..
Huh? That would make him 85
😂😂😂
Probably sad for the pearl facing this defeat and finding it hard to cope with /:. She was so nice!
Seo Seoa is the GOAT
Thanks for the laugh!
You can't be a Goat at her age...lmao
Seo seoA dont sad . You well done . Everyone to expect a hug from you without him .❤
Earl is the most American thing I've ever seen
please don't say that.... sigh
You obviously don't know what an American is. Nationality has nothing to do with it. He's a has been with a big ego. When that ego gets hurt, his brain shuts off and becomes this defensive person. He's human, and any human can act that way.
That is insulting on every level.
Common man Earl you're a legend of the sport why not give a hug to the beautiful young lady who probably admires you, be kind Earl
Earl loved it. He just didnt want anyone to feel his soft spot
They should play an exhibition match. If Seo wins, Earl has to give her a hug.
Strickland was So So and Seo Seoa was Striking.
Nice.
I can't believe i'm your only 'thumbs up', so far. (If you want a lot more of them, next time try to work the wrong 'you're', 'your', 'they're', 'their', 'there', 'lose', or 'loose' into your comment somehow.)
@@marginality270 Thanks, pal. I'll tell you/everyone a secret here - even when I write a short comment on a RUclips video, I usually spend 10 minutes thinking about it. In this case my comment went through several iterations before it reached that point. Those 9 words definitely took me over 9 minutes of work to create. That's one minute per word. For some comments I can spend hours preparing my words, especially when it involves technical issues on a subject that I'm not an expert in, which is all subjects. And here's another super secret - sometimes I intentionally leave a typo in my comment so that it looks like I didn't spend a long time working on it, although I've done that more at work than here on RUclips.

I got hugs all day every day for Seo. 😊
I’m 70 years old and played and followed pool and billiards all my life. I was a fan of Earl Strickland, but not any more. Your conduct following your loss was shameful. Games, wins and losses come and go, but honor and gentlemanly decency once lost cannot be retrieved. Seo Seoa is the better player and better person.
You sure you followed Earl? He just got schooled, he spent the entire match sitting in the corner watching. Earl has never been a "gentleman", in fact he has been the exact opposite his entire career. So for him to behave like this is just another day ending in Y. If Reyes behaved like this then that would be a story.
Earl got pissed off again. Lol. I love earls natural reactions.
It was a very strange thing to ask right after that match.. Harmless but very strange 😁
Maybe she wanted to cheer up the grumpy
No, it isn't strange, he was her hero (and he is still a Legend), when she started playing Pool ... she wanted just show some respect, it was a bad feeling for her to beat her hero this way !
I can understand it !

It´s strange to choose that moment. He has his pride, why would he want to hug a young woman who has just defeated him? A man who has seen everything on a pool table.. Respect is just shaking his hand and thanking him for the game. This was the worst moment to behave like a fan.
