Will this still work to be considered a "personal item" on a flight? Checking the specs against the United website, it seems the pack is 1.5 to 2 inches too big... but in practice does this actually prevent it from fitting under the seat or them letting you bring it alongside a full-size carry-on bag? Does the 20L to 30L expansion impact how it would fit or be classified?

for those of you watching, this is the 20L that's expandable to 30L.
they also have a smaller version that's 14L
We have ours since they came out a few years ago. Best back packs we ever had. It is worth buying the toilet bag and the compression cube.

They need to fix the pull tabs and such on the zipper, make it a little easier to get in and out! Other then that its very nice

So I just got the bag the zippers feel stiff and not a smooth opening and also gets snagged on the inner lining

Honestly I would say just literally put a sticker on it. This way you can remove it later if your tastes change
