If you wanna stretch it, the lyrics talk about selling your cow, missing your hay, mentions the Istrian dance (not explicitly but the setting is set in historical times). So yeah there are elements of Istrian history and the way people lived a 100 years ago.
WHY this song should win ESC. Beside being so highly catchy and relatable. He himself wrote his lyrics, made music, arangement and came up with this staging in 1 MONTH (doing all other things like interviews, official video etc) as he came to competition as a reserve. His girlfriend is in charge of his visuals and his brother is a drummer, and everything is made mostly with a help of his family and close friends. This guy delivered, not only a song, but values too. He's not bringing nudity, cursing and there's no any other provocation inside his lyrics or visuals. That's what ESC is all about. It's the essence of this festival. It's a SONG competition made by an author himself. Marko himself is not aware of what he delivered here becouse he's such a humble and kind soul, which is such a rarity in the world these days. He's an artist indeed and I'm so very happy he finally decided to take that step and pursue his solo career after so many years being a band member and writing songs for others. Wish him all the best in life ❤

So many people can relate to what the song is about, especially the anxiety part. Marko is also an introvert himself he said in an interview, so he's a very humble person and seems super sweet. He said in his winner press conference that despite him being introvert, when he's on stage he becomes a different persona. And that makes his song and performance even stronger: breaking down the walls, showing your powerful self on the stage. So so epic! Croatia for the win! Meow cat, please meow back! 😻

Incompetent jury of Croatian Radio & Television did not want Baby Lasagna at Dora at all. He entered the competition as a reserve, because someone else dropped out. The song is about young people leaving their home (immigrating to other countries) in search of a better life, and anxiety it creates. Yet, the song is litehearted. It was written, and produced solely by Marko Purišić (Baby Lasagna) in his room in small town, Croatia. First time performing as a singer on a big stage, Marko did great; people of Croatia reacted and gave him the greatest margin of victory ever. With big stage and some improvements, it’s a definite contender. Eurovision song, here we come, Rim Tim Tagi Dim!
Is it about immigrating to other countries? I assumed it is about young people moving from the countryside to the coast and the bigger cities, where there are more work opportunities, especially in the tourism industry. In German we call it Landflucht ("rural exodus" in English apparently). A local told us about it when my family was on vacation in Croatia, so I immediately thought of that. It could be both, of cource. But with some of the lyrics. "Maybe they also know our dance" "become one of them city boys", that doesn't necessarily sound like he's leaving the country to me.

Yes for the first time in forever, we all love this song. Croatians all over the world. Especially us Croatian that left our country, our cats, pets and families in a search for a better life. Croatia is pretty, but having a war then is robbed drained for the past 30 something years by a corrupted political party that is messing with our lives. But despite the story, the music is great, the dance is killing! A full package!

It was written, and produced solely by Marko Purišić (Baby Lasagna) in his room in small town, Croatia. First time performing as a singer on a big stage, Marko did great; people of Croatia reacted and gave him the greatest margin of victory ever. With big stage and some improvements, it’s a definite contender.

Is it about immigrating to other countries? I assumed it is about young people moving from the countryside to the coast and the bigger cities, where there are more work opportunities, especially in the tourism industry. In German we call it Landflucht ("rural exodus" in English apparently). A local told us about it when my family was on vacation in Croatia, so I immediately thought of that.
It could be both, of cource. But with some of the lyrics. "Maybe they also know our dance" "become one of them city boys", that doesn't necessarily sound like he's leaving the country to me.

Baby Lasagna is a great musician and young man. He’s signing about young Croatian people leaving their country which they love but because of luck of any future perspective they go abroad. This is what ones did.

Yes for the first time in forever, we all love this song. Croatians all over the world. Especially us Croatian that left our country, our cats, pets and families in a search for a better life. Croatia is pretty, but having a war then is robbed drained for the past 30 something years by a corrupted political party that is messing with our lives. But despite the story, the music is great, the dance is killing! A full package!

It wasn't mentioned here so I just want to add: the song also brings forth the intensity of the brain-drain in croatia and the fact that the only place you can live in comfortably (finance wise) are larger cities in croatia. So that just adds to it's already very meaningful messege
