More than 40 women have been found murdered or have disappeared from the Highway of Tears in BC since the 1960s. Most of them aboriginal girls and women. For more about the Highway of Tears and the women, I recommend watching the Documentary h: ttp://highwayoftearsfilm.com/watch

    Hi. Carolyn
I am a 48 yr. Young black female ..that had many encounters that would make your hair stand up ..I have i just found your channel a few days ago and have been watching almost every day...I enjoyed your journeys..Thank you for allowing me on them with you.. and I am very sad about your fury friend Capone...
You are such a care free gentle spirit. I am enjoying all of your exploring..I have said to myself,, one day I'm going to get an RV and hit the road..but that is the most I have done,, is say it..you are truly living it...what an inspiration to me..and I'm sure to so many others....Thank you for taking me for the ride along...Now about the creep alert..I am a female in Baltimore,Maryland..
I drove a taxi cab for many years.. also was a security guard... and I say was because my back is kind of messed up ..probably from sitting in my taxi cab for 16 to 17 hours a day for years..I had many customers that got into my cab while driving the overnite shift..Male and female..
I can tell you that being in a busy metropolitan area some of those customers creeped me out aswell.. Thank God I had a fiber glass shield separating me from them..I can only imagine how isolated it would be in a area that large away from everything and everyone..I am so happy that your creep alert radar kicked in full gear...I do not scare easily but that situation you endured more than creeped me out.. just imagine if it was getting dark out as that happened ...that only throws in ten times more of a truly bad scenario.....get yourself a aluminum baseball bat..and keep it wedged in between your chair or somewhere you can get to it...God allows us to defend ourselves if need be..you are a true warrior with great instinctive intuition,, guts,,savyness,,and wisdom,,,
Get you some pepper spray too..continue your journey and exploring with peace and safety ..maybe even carrying some sort of stick with you once you first start exploring your campsite..never know who is lurking around from a far with binoculars..May the covering from our Lord.. precious blood of Jesus cover you from head to toe and your RV..and every place your feet tread..Amen!!
Take special care of yourself great lady!!

Carolyn, this is a huge thing. Indigenous women, especially, have been disappearing for years, & very little has been done about it. You must report this to the police, & provide a description of the guy & the car, as well as a description of the guy who knocked on your door earlier. Please do this to protect other women who aren't as savvy as you, or who don't have a dog, or who break down at the side of the road.

Always listen to your instincts. It's not mystical either... it's neurological. Our brains evolved to pick up on in small things like facial expressions, body language, voice tones and verbal cues as a matter of survival. We subconsciously pick up on things that we are not even aware of... so when you get that weird feeling.... listen! Your brain knows more than you are aware of... and when it detects something is off it releases neurotransmitters and other hormones that increase your heart rate and other things to prepare you for fight or flight. Pay attention when it happens.

    • @Cissy2cute

TheBioExplorer True. I got the same feeling from one of my daughter's boyfriends. If I were to say why, the most I could say was that "he did not walk right", crazy huh? Turns out there was a long history of mental illness on both sides of his family so I was relieved when he finally dumped her. I did warn her after I saw him trying to put the moves on her brother's girlfriend (and the girlfriend responding, lol) so she was not too surprised or heartbroken. I was also not too thrilled about the girlfriend but that's another story.

  • @bernadettebockis4120
    @bernadettebockis4120 6 лет назад +54

You can report the incidence, as the police put together many small details. If he is a rapist and/or murderer, then you have a description of him, and it should be contributed to the case. Also, I have attended numerous self-defense classes for women, and done community outreach in Los Angeles. The message we learned and shared with women (and men) is to trust your gut and honor it. It's better to be safe than dead. Also, if there is a known area where women are attacked, then it can also draw copy cats, men who hear of the occurrence and follow suit. He may be one of many who engage in these behaviors. You don't want to be his next victim. No woman should end up as the next victim. Trusting your gut means you believe the danger to be true, and take immediate action. The alarm bell is ringing inside your head. Do not turn it off. Do not say, "Oh, he's okay. I'm just imagining it." This is the sign. Women need to believe it.

Thank you for sharing this. I just took my first long solo trip up the east coast. I have been worried about the gut instinct kicking in and me being able to hear it. I had friends driving an hour and a half up to see me at this campground and to go out to dinner. I pulled into the campground and immediately was on alert. I was "judging" people on their looks and on the rv park itself. I left...called my friends and we ended up driving back to their house and I stayed there. Sometimes you have to "judge" others. I don't regret making that decision. The campground might have been perfectly fine but I knew that i would not get a good night sleep if I stayed there.

As for men being inappropriate to Women in any way, It is never OK or innocent. I have walked this earth for many years now and too many men enjoy seeing how far they can go and how uncomfortable they can make a Woman feel. This is wrong, it is barbaric and if it is done in my presence there will be hell to pay. It all boils down to respect and there is far to little respect being shown to one another in this world of computer interaction and social media. People say hurtful damaging things as they hide behind the keyboard. These are the actions of a bully and they are damaging to the innocent.

There are about 1200 missing or murdered Aboriginal women in the north of Canada. Dating back to 1980. It's a preditors haven, not enough police and lots of hiding places and it's easy to make someone disappear out there with no witnesses. It's not just the Bears you have to worry about up north.

The lack of people traveling the AlCan highway or the other one create a big vulnerability. I’m sorry you can’t be as free as you were down South on the back roads... if you went for a walk, someone could disable your motor while you’re away from your vehicle... it’s a different situation up there, save your trust for the more populated areas.

That is my experience traveling the Cassier and AlCan. This is true wilderness where anything can happen with few outposts many of which are closed. I advise going to visitors centers to find out places that are open and camping in settlements only. Predation from animals and humans is a real thing here. There was just a couple murdered near Liard hot springs on the AlCan. Their vehicle broke down....

Be careful and always go with your gut. I think you should go somewhere else to sleep tonight. Like my friend used to say. His name was Ray. He said if men are nice and not harmful, they usually won't approach a woman who is alone somewhere vulnerable because they don't want to scare her. He said and if a guy approaches you somewhere and asks things like "are you alone" or "how long will you be here" most likely he is up to no good. Ray (God Bless his Soul) was an ex cop so I know he knew what he was talking about. I have always kept that in mind. He said never admit you are alone. So you have good thinking. Believe it or not a lot of women answer truthfully.
Plus, you kept thinking about it after so it makes me think you sensed something. He sounded Creepy.

Carolyn, You did good, gal. Trust that gut. Even if it turns out to be no big deal, it usually never hurts to follow it, though when you don't, I've experienced for myself how things can go sideways. It can change drastically or even end a life and I'm glad it didn't go that way for you, Dear. The guy did fit the profile of a suspicious character and didn't seem that smart either, as he gave himself away by leering into and at your motor home and hanging about. Sizing the situation up, I'd say he might be part of a group of nappers. He may have been thinking about the motor home, if they have any stray plates to exchange with yours, so they could drive it away after he takes you on a "tour". As far as Capone, I'm thinking, "Yep he's friendly now, but if the guy emitted any bad intentions toward you, Capone would sniff that out in a hurry". Give him some nice scratches for me and Keep Trusting Your Instincts. : )

Thank you for posting this, i think many women do not TRUST their inner voice and are conditioned to be NICE and do that instead Many lives could be saved if women prioritized their lives and understand that VIOLENCE against them is a reality and the Trail of TEARS is very dangerous. THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS TO WOMEN. I have traveled throughout the world and stayed safe, not out of luck but always listening to my gut/intuition and being reasonably cautious, never walk in fear---NEVER. I never compromised my safety. Second thing is NEVER SECOND GUESS YOURSELF.

I live in BC, The Highway of Tears is tragic, why the entire country is not completely outraged is beyond me. Yes, as women we're taught from day one to ignore our instincts and to be polite. There is an amazing book called The Gift of Fear by Gavin Debecker that EVERY woman should read. Never be afraid to react when in doubt and listen to that inner voice! It's instinctual and it's primal, it's there to keep us safe. Good for you for getting out of that situation.

Oh Carolyn! Coming in two years later -- I would have done exactly the same thing, down to your answer. When someone only asks you if you're alone and actually waits for you to answer -- it is WAY creepy.
I'm never "alone" for whoever's asking. I just gave this response to a guy that suddenly appeared outside a building I was working in. I told him, "No," and he actually said, "You look like you're alone." I told him to have a nice night & left to go into the locked building.
He was probably working for my boss, but without an introduction... and that singular "Are you alone?" question... I'm real "unfriendly".
I'm so thankful for your response and safety. It would have been an awfully sad story without you around to tell it!

Years ago, a friend recommended a book by someone that started profiling for the FBI. He wrote that society teaches women to be too nice and to always try and make peace. A lot of women who are abused by their significant other are killed AFTER they leave their partner. The abuser convinces the woman to have one last conversation for one more chance...the woman out of guilt will give in and that is when the woman is murdered......thank you for listening to your therapist, thank you for respecting your self and your gut and being reasonable .
