  • In this video, we deep dive into how to make a hydrogen carburetor that will fit most small engines from 50cc to over 300cc
    Made from an LPG carburetor, it is simple and easy to make. This is not the best way to run hydrogen gas, but it is the cheapest and easiest. The added benefit of keeping the governor is fantastic for petrol generator conversions.

    I work for a fuel systems company that is deploying hydrogen fuel systems to some of the biggest manufacturers in the world, mostly for mid sized trucks and buses. We obviously use a modern electronic controller, electronic fuel injection, electronic managed turbo and etc. We also help our customers design & calibrate the engine and by now have loads and loads of learnings in the fascinating world of Hydrogen Internal Combustion. I have loved watching this video and the engine teardown one as well, many of your observations are very pertinent and I commend you for obtaining so much good knowledge on such low budget. The thing I love is that your carburetor functioning principle relies on one unique factor that is pretty unique to hydrogen: you can run very well by changing the air/fuel ratio. A lot of spark ignited engine technical people have spent all their careers trying to keep air fuel ratio fixed, so they never realize that hydrogen engines can be run by changing load by changing lambda. This would be more of a lean burn/diesel kind of mentality, except that diesel people do not understand spark timing at all. So yes, I do not know if your carbie is designed like that on purpose but, from my own standpoint, it is very smart because it benefits from the fuel properties. My only negative comment would be to say that if I understood correctly, you expected very rich combustion to be low NOx. Actually it is the other way round and it is well documented in the scientific literature that to reduce engine out NOx, you have to go seriously lean. In the other video you mention EGR. I cannot wait to see how you work on that and how it sorts itself out. From my experience, get ready for a LOT of backfires. Awesome job mate 🙂

      @Hydrogenguys  Месяц назад

      Wow, sounds like you have my dream job,
      Thanks for the compliment and info, i will look into the lean mix and Nox relationship again, the documents I read explained running overly rich resulted in less air/nitrogen in the combustion chamber and less heat resulting in less Nox emissions… along with water injection to further reduce internal temperatures and Nox. I will read up on this again.
      Love your work in the electrical fuel injection field. Electric direct injection with forced induction is the way to go for sure.

    In its intended usage, this is a carb.
    As you are using it, this is NOT a carburetor. A carburetor turns a liquid fuel into a combustible vapor via vacuum induction into a venturi.
    This is gas injection. The carb is just functioning as a throttle.

    Just run hho in two lines, one hh and another with Oxygen. You can also use 91% + alcohol with a vaporizer to make a fog inside a bucket and run a hose to the carb with a small valve 12mm or so to adjudt the mixture, also heating vegetable oil until it smokes without oxygen and pipe it into the engine. It should run. If the spark was hot enough. If the crank case vent is piped into the engine can possibly help with valve seat wear, also the heating wood or vegetable scraps, dried and sealed inside a metal container and heated to produce fuel, the exhaust can be used for the heat. With a 75-100mm ,x 300 mm tubing with a 25-35 mm exhaust pipe running through the center with each end capped with thread on plugs to seal the fill and clean out ports. Wrap with header insulation to hold in the heat. With it mounted 70mm from the engine. Even candle wax can be a fuel also. Then nearly anything can be fuel. Wood shavings grass clippings, anything including possibly vegetable oil, just allow it to heat without air, but vented enough to not explode TV alternative fuels are cool. The Russian huys turned rubber tires into fuel, so plastics maybe used also . Possibly with HHO also.

    you guys forget about a few important things , hho needs far higher air to fuel ratio yes, you got that part right. But hho gas also burns much faster than petrol , this means your gx is running on much too slow ignition timing. you need to eeither alter the keyway on the magneto flywheel... or better yet , make an addjustable mounting bracket to mount the coil on so you can move the coil (radially) closer or farther from TDC. let me share a secret , hho expands rapidly on combustion(steam) but also shrinks again as it cools , very gast... this is enhancing scavenging wich is not benificiary in your setup coz the gas is cut off after the intake stroke so scavenging cannot work ... fix all your problrms by switching to diesel , using hho as an additive instead of trying to use it as a sole fuel source. hho likes higher compression but wont combust under compression like diesel does,,,diesels are allready very efficient so you can improve on it ten fold ,,,as for engine running on hho alone ...if it was easy and good , then we would have had water engines in evrything long ago , as for storing hho ...NO!!!! do not ever compress any fuel/air mix into any tank coz if you do , you have actually made a bomb ! you dont want a bomb connected to an ignition source or else you will die ! it getsgeneraated on the go, wich poses another challenge, how? gotry making a diy hho gen that can produce enough gas per minute to run a I.C.E !!! thats my findings so far on my mission. Use it, dont use it. just dont blow uoyour house ok.

      Hi Thankyou for the comment and concern, this channel is about pure hydrogen gas not so much HHO, so storage isn’t a problem as no oxygen is present, as for the ignition timing, extra heat and fuel ratios that’s all in over videos, this video was just about the hydrogen delivery system.
      I’m currently filming a new set of videos where I disassemble and rebuild an engine specifically for pure hydrogen or HHO mix, this will include the timing changes. will be released in the next week or so.

      Nox is created at very high temperatures around 2500°F In the presence of oxygen and nitrogen. Keeping the combustion chamber below that temperature will keep from creating the Nox.
      Water injection is a good way to accomplish that, which will also help keep the inside of the engine clean, and if the droplet size is correct, it can actually turn to steam during the combustion cycle adding power and efficiency.
      Typically increasing the compression ratio will help with power, and efficiency, but will increase the temperature inside the combustion chamber. Then you can use water injection to bring the temp back down.

    There is essentially no need for a carburetor. Everything can work without throttle. There is an acceptable minimum percentage of hydrogen content (approximately 10%); anything higher will burn. So, it’s enough just to pipe into the intake tract and make quantitative adjustments.

    • @Hydrogenguys
      @Hydrogenguys  2 месяца назад

      Yes very true, but this set up means the gas pressure can remain the same throughout the rev range, meaning it’s perfect for generators or engines with a governor, the pressure can be set and the carburettor will do the work adjusting the rpm.
