The OODA Loop was all about teaching fighter pilots how to deal with uncertainty. He stated that often, in confusing situations, we get stuck in how we think things ought to be, instead of staying focused on what is really happening. His advice was to “fight the enemy, not the terrain” as a reminder to stay focused on the situation at hand.

To avoid this missiles have checks and balances, one of the most common ones is that a missile will fly straight off the rail and THEN turn; For this exact reason. A battle which might be interesting is a f-22 vs. a f-86. I say this as the f-22 relies on stealth to hide from it's enemies but the f-86 doesn't have a search radar so it relies on the pilots vision to locate an enemy. I do believe that in terms of raw power the f-86 would be greatly outclassed but the f-86 is designed for subsonic maneuvering and visual target identification and gun kills.

I had the same question. Seemed like the SU 35 and F-22 were taking their shots and evading at the same distances. Would have thought the F-22 would be able to take shots from ranges outside of what was "lockable" for the SU35

Day 7 of asking for F-16 vs Jeff BVR.
    Also, got some video ideas
    1. Lap jets at the Inguri dam race course
    2. Use the same tactics in this video against the F-22 in a 4th gen fighter. You might be able to lure the F-22 close if you correctly assume when he shoots at you.

Who knows? Possibly. Depends on a lot of factors. Mostly the SU-35's flight profile. Eg; was the 35 at a good enough AOA(angle of attack" for the HOB(high off boresight) capability to work?

Something I'm noticing is that in these sims you still seem to be using older version of the AMRAAM missile based on the ranges you talk about. Current AIM-120D models are believed to have a range of nearly 100 miles; hypothetically you should me smacking these aircraft before they have any chance of seeing you (even visually).

  • @aetholus2982

So it seems like the archer has an issue with collision mapping in this version that causes them to detonate on the rail if fired during certain maneuvers. Likely it’s switching modes early, on ignition instead of after launch, so it treats the rail it’s launched off of as if it has fired then hit it.
