    International (IARU) standards for S-9 meter readings is -73dbm for frequencies below 30MHz and -93dbm for frequencies above 30MHz. Service manuals list 100uV which is a unloaded voltage. 100uV unloaded, 50uV into 50 ohm load, -73dbm are all the same thing. Many service manuals for decades listed the voltage reading in unloaded voltage. My BK 2040 CB signal generator has a scale which shows 100uV/-73dbm (unloaded/loaded).
    The current Giant Electronics CB radios (who make the current Cobras) are absolutely junk. Horrible quality and factory alignment, what alignment. :-)

      MikesRadioRepair - thanks for the clarification Mike, I should find that video you did and link it in so people can see it. What you say makes total sense, and you do more radios in a week than I do in a year!

      I swear the manufacturers try to confuse people. They make something so simple so confusing. Here's a link to the video.

    A few years ago, I purchased a CB/10 meter radio, it had a door where you could access a jumper, solder two bridges for CB, a different two bridges for 10 meter. Since I have my HAM ticket, I started with the 10 meter but for traveling, I switched it back to CB so I could monitor the truckers on Channel 19 for road reports and such. Neat little set, about as wide as a dollar bill, and very thin. I had it mounted in our 35 foot Class A Motor Home back before the big shut down, we used to travel to Arizona for the winters to avoid the cold and snow in the Dakota.s. Now my wonderful wife who was my co-pilot has gone on to her just rewards, and I am alone. I let the motor home go to another fellow who wanted to live in it if he took over payments. Good deal for both of us, I no longer have to put out over 600 a month in payments and he gets the joy of traveling. She was a great rig, 3 slide outs, a huge gas burner for power, I climbed mountains in Nevada with her she never even shuttered at the climbs and passed semi's in the slow lanes. I miss the rig but without my co-pilot the adventure was not there any more. Now I sit with my macbook on one knee and a huge white cat. (with a black spot on his head) named Maxwell Smart on the other knee, the wind is blowing so hard that the curtains on my north facing picture window are moving in the breeze and my daughter is on her way home from a doctors appointment a hundred miles North of here. The Dakota's are a great place to live if you don't mind driving 1 hundred miles to the nearest Walmart or 30 to the nearest Doctor. Life goes peacefully on here in my little corner of heaven. 73's KE0JL

    Why not put a switch so he can revert to the original frequencies if he wanted to . or will that be thrown off by the tuning your are going to do?

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  6 лет назад

      Joseph Massimino - I have done that in the past if I have been asked to, however I don’t like the long wires running through the radio to the switch as they pick up a bit of RF noise and which gets fed back into the mixers.

      I would put the switch on the bottom, close to the board, with shielded wire, which will be very short.
