He was definitely going for the world record on this marathon and would of gotten it likely if there wasn't water on the ground but as long as he stays healthy, it's only a matter of time for him to be the first man to run sub 1:58 seeing how this is only his 2nd marathon and already improving this fast
@Steve Lau let's tackle sub 2:01 first. Then sub 2:00, then 1:59. Sub 1:58 is a long ways away. Sub 1:58 is 4:29 mile pace, his best is 2:01:25 which is 4:37 pace.
@stevelau7694 apart from anything else that's happened, I don't think people know how insane they sound talking about sub 1.59/58 marathons, an approximate calculation makes the human limit out to be 1.57.58 - having said thst kiptum was almost the perfect marathon runner- but even then, to break a mark like 1.58 you'd need to be a comfortable sub 2hr runner which nobody will ever he
So young still, my bet for the first sub 2 in history!.. Kipchoge is still the goat but will have to try extremely hard to beat this youngster, I feel. 😊
Why they don't assign guys on bikes or motorbikes to deliver water bottles and whatever they need during the race?! It's doable like in many other sports, cycling for example. Also, Kipchoge team done this during the INEOS challenge of breaking 2 hours. This will just help the athletes perform better and prevent wasting time to pick up their bottles.
@@akremamara8349 I think that it is to keep the tradition of how a proper race is supposed to be so that the present time records can be performed under similar conditions to the past records. However modern shoe technology has already changed that.
@Edwin Karani don't think hes hating. When it's too good to be true it's too good to be true. Look at his resume. Lacks a lot of credentials compared to everyone he beat. He even did back to back 10k pb in his marathon. He has no world class experience has never won a major race nor anything before 2019 and from 2019 till now he hasnt done much. Yes he has dropped his 60 to 58 half marathon in 3 years but still nothing before this which is very unsual. Check the top 10 at boston or london and youll see what i mean re credential.. This is why most don't believe he is clean
@@RunForPeace-hk1cu the guy only exercised for 2 hours most fit people can do that, the other ran/ walked for 9 + hours I think that’s far more an achievement, the plane trip there and back would be longer for the run for him and let’s be honest mo farah would have been paid a lot more than this guy did even though he wasn’t close to winning

Only a few months later he broke by over 34 seconds.

He just broke the world record in Chicago!
another humble runner.could be the next GOAT
- Was that your plan?
- No my plan was to catch a bottle, but I missed, unfortunately I missed
So when I missed - FULL send after that 😀 Well can you miss a bottle a little earlier then and smash Sub 2?
Can't believe you're gone😢
R.I P young legend. So sad 😢
So he missed the water and said screw it I will just end this race sooner and have a drink.

Great run by kelvin. If kelvin runs 30metres faster pace wise every 1600 metres he will break the 2 hour mark. Best of luck 🙂🤘
