I've been doing sikkens little over a year now, compared to Axalta cromax pro. Sikkens is so horribly slow and I find color matches are often to bright even when choosing the darker variant. I wish this shop would switch away from slow sikkens product
AJ I am in the exact same boat as you. Where I work we switched from Cromax to Sikkens Autobase Plus. I have noticed the same problems you are having. Whites NEVER match they always have to be tinted. I find that when mixing whites do a 60 / 40 % or 80 / 20 % of the 120 tint. If the color ask for 120 to be added substitute 60 to 80% of the 120 tint for 110 tint. 110 is a weaker version of 120. With Cromax I would scan just about any white and if it gave me a .3 or lower target value I know I could mix it and panel paint it. Now talking about slow, holy crap god help you if the temp changes during painting. If you mix slow in basecoat and the temp drops a little the base takes forever to dry. Another thing if you do not hit the recoat window with perfect timing the clearcoats do not lay down. There are things I do like about Sikkens it does cover much better and it does blend out nice when you do your blending techniques.
You gotta learn how to use it to the best it can be it takes time but once you figure it out it gets way faster . I can have a bumper , fender , hood , door job sprayed in less than an hour , sealer base and clear , sikkens is all about reducer and undercoats . If you don’t have a good grasp on which undercoats to use then you are doomed with the color match . I spray colors out over 5 or 6 value shades of sealer cards I make and it makes a massive difference on the colors . Whites you have to take at least 30 to 35 percent of the 120 out for it to actually match and give the colors the yellowness that they need . I like to take out 32 percent and usually that nails the color . Once you learn all these things sikkens is a breeze to paint with . Is there better paint out there absolutely , is it a horrible paint system , no . Their clears are just okay , I like the hs plus clear and the xpress clear everything else I’ve tried is very hard to buff . The only ones I haven’t tried are the pc clears . I wish sikkens offered more clears with reducer so I can control everything about the finish im applying

Autobace Plus came out 20 years ago! Autobase Plus is a solvent-based paint! Who is using Autobase Plus anymore?
