Just here to say what a stunning performance by Petula Clark. At 90 years old she is bouncing around the stage with the kids and loving every minute of it!
And to think that Dick Van Dyke was 93 when he filmed his scenes for MARY POPPINS RETURNS! Those two put most of the rest of us to shame when it comes to enjoying life, no matter how advanced you are in your years!
Just love Charlie Stemp. I went to London a few years ago and at TKTS in Leicester Square I bought a seat for Half a Sixpence because I liked the film so much and wondered how they did If the Rain's Got to Fall on stage. And there he was, Charlie Stemp, a charming, cheeky incarnation of Arthur Kipps. I've followed his career ever since and wish him all the best for the entertainment he's given me. I loved him as Bert the chimneysweep as well.
I never cease to be amazed, and even though this is the last performance in this run, that the chorus and cast, who have already worked their butts off for two hours that night and for months and years, are able to conjure up this much energy at the end of this and during the curtain calls of virtually every musical, when they must already be physically exhausted. All hail the pit band too! BUT. WHAT. JOY. THEY. HAVE. BROUGHT. TO. THE. AUDIENCE!
I was fortunate to be in London on November 14 for Petula Clark’s 90 birthday. There was a huge and much deserved tribute to Petula at the curtain calls. 90 years old and still going strong!!
PS First saw this production in November, 2019, just before the pandemic. It was two and a half years before I was able to take my sister to see it. And when the curtain went up, I lost it! I sobbed before I pulled myself together!
