Great amount of emotion but I’m hoping more range from the doctor and companion actors than fun and demise. Peter Capaldi nailed this by choosing the best moments for the doctor to be emotional but always hopeful.

I REALLY liked this episode. My TV was playing up but I was completely captivated by the story. You wouldn;t think a story taking place in one crater for this long could really be sustained this long. But it was brilliant.
I actually didn't recognise Susan Twist. I love that it's really her name and that it's got fans worked up wondering if there is something to do with Susan coming as a twist. I'd actually love it if it came to nothing and she just happened to be there for most of the season as a total red herring.

The Doctor getting his Zen on to the Skye Boat Song is a little nod to Ncuti being Scottish, but more so the fact that the Second Doctor famously played the Skye Boat Song on his recorder (VERY frequently lol). Also, trust Moffat to bring out the Scottishness haha.

And when the Doctor appears to have lost his key at the end, is it HIS key - or Ruby's - that Ruby dangles in front of him? Will his "lost" key be how Varada comes back into the show next season? Although RTD's said that "Munday's story is over...." - which suggests, however she comes back, it's as a totally different character.
And what sort of name is "Splice" to give your daughter?
And why did Ncuti keep pronouncing "Villengard" differently to everyone else who's ever said the word - with the stress on the "en" rather than on the "Vill"? Did no one on set notice? (I guess it's like Matt Smith mispronouncing "Metebelis" way back when....)
Great review with some thought-provoking comments, Mr Talks. Have a sub!

    • @TardisTalks
      @TardisTalks  15 дней назад +3

I think the key would have been the doctors if the episodes were not moved but we would now need to assume its Ruby's since she was gave a key in the prior episode.
I don't know, it feels off and I had a weird feeling when the doctor said she will grow up to be a president or something important.. Is splice gonna come back?
I can answer the problem with the pronunciation as i tend to have the same issue, its the scottish accent we over pronounce on certain letters and words sometimes making it sound like a different word or said differently.
Thank You Mark it is appreciated :)

Nice video - loved the Easter eggs at the end! Overall I liked the set-up of this episode, but thought the ending fell flat. Also, 'next of kin' doesn't have to be a blood relation! Legally speaking, if you're adopted (like Ruby) your next of kin will be your adoptive parents. Although to be fair, perhaps the rules are different in the 3000s!

I still don’t know how I feel about this Doctor, I was one of the hardcore fans who dropped off during the 13th era & I was so excited for the return of 10 & Donna but those episodes were disappointing to say the least so my hopes going into this new Doctor were set very low after the specials. However I did really enjoy this episode, it felt more “Doctor Who” like than all the previous episodes thus far and hopefully it will continue in this direction.
I also am liking how right off the bat the season has a mysterious story arc surrounding the doctors companion that is very reminiscent of Amy Pond’s story arc and I can’t wait to see where it goes.
Honesty this was something that I sorely missed in the 13 era, all her episodes seemed very very rushed, the companions all felt very one dimensional & there weren’t any good story aches or two/three part episodes that all the other doctors had throughout their seasons & the ones that she did have were again, very very rushed & empty feeling. The only one I was mildly interested in was the last episode or two where the master turns all the time lords into cybermen.

Yeah I haven't got a massive love for 13's era despite continuing to try and like it, I have noticed the specials were actually better on rewatch I just wanted them all the other night, there is some Meh well that didn't really need to be in there parts but overall enjoyable.
Yeah I am loving having the mystery boxes and story arcs back too cause S11-12 had virtually nothing to keep you drawn in:( and S13 attempted it and well didn't pay off with it..

In the books, Susan was from Gallifrey's Rassilon-era, just as Rassilon was coming to power over the psychic matriarchy empire. The Hand of Omega kicked the recently-stolen TARDIS past the usual barriers so the Doctor could meet and take Susan.
Also, in that era, Time Lords had children. As the Gallifreyan empire fell, it was cursed by the matriarch and became sterile; Rassilon held off the time-travel experiments and developed regeneration to stop the race from dying out. From that were invented the machines called the Looms that created new Time Lords/Ladies.
Davies and Moffat have said off-screen, because Georgia isn't coming back, that the rocket she launched in collided with a moon and killed her.

Plus, Jack's gun was supposed to use the same technology from the same factory and worked perfectly on wood, even to the point of RESTORING the wood.
I really want to know where you get "didn't lift it when he left the TARDIS" from, as he usually carries it in a pocket. I've heard people claiming that he didn't know the mine and therefore couldn't have done anything with it, but now I've seen the episode it's obvious he knows the mine QUITE well.

Which also means there's another problem with the scripts: the ambulances are supposed to triage and diagnose and treat human illnesses. It should have absolutely blown its own head out on meeting a THREE THOUSAND YEAR OLD GIRL.

    • @troffle
      @troffle 10 дней назад

To be fair, if you think it's a warzone and act in it as if it were a warzone, that MAKES it a warzone.
To be more fair, they should have been finding a way to destroy the mud and were doing NOTHING. I mean, lasers to dry out the mud? Fire and napalm across the fields?
The Anglican marines did surprisingly little in the way of prayer services.
For a war driven by economics, they're using therefore buying very little weaponry and ammunition.
Who's placing the mines if the mines are theirs?
If they're trying to sell things, why aren't they just charging more for blindness treatments to get soldiers back on the battlefield instead of killing them?
If they're trying to sell things, why are the mines REUSABLE and self-maintaining?
If they're trying to sell things, why aren't the ambulances and mines giving holograms of the enemy to SHOOT AT so they approach and set off the mines, or use ammunition, or get injured and require expensive healthcare?
Why are the flesh caskets LEFT ON THE BATTLEFIELD, why not charge the families a fee for the ambulances returning the message to base?
For that matter, how did the Doctor go from a run to perfect balance on a mine?
The Doctor was resting, apparently, 6kg of force of his bodyweight on his other leg. Which means what, at least the other 50-70kg on the other leg? Wasn't really going to make much difference.
Also, if the flesh of a whole body is smelted/compressed, if it was partly wrinkly and was there an eyeball in there, then obviously the liquid hasn't been removed, so how does an adult male soldier including muscle mass get brought down to SIX KILOGRAMS?
Splice made it through an invisible-mine-field AND DIDN'T HIT A MINE.
In a warzone with horrifying scary violent dangerous machines in sight, SHE SAT DOWN TO WATCH HAPPY SNAPS?
And the Doctor leaving the TARDIS without the screwdriver, that's even more ridiculous than the rest. Moffat could've had a laser grid with multiple protected emitters to force standing still, but a reusable mine in an economically driven war, it doesn't make sense. None of it made sense. It made so little sense, it was impossible to feel anything at the end.
If Moffat really tried to make this episode about capitalism, it's incomprehensible. Paid as much as he is, he should've written a script that made sense. Nothing about this episode makes sense and I don't understand how Moffat has his reputation, it's as senseless as everybody thinking Elon Musk is a genius.
People love these episodes and Moffat and NEITHER OF THEM DESERVE LOVE. We all deserve something better. Excuses shouldn't be made for this show; everybody should stand up and demand better of a company with resources like Disney, experience like the BBC and people getting paid as much money and apparently respect as Davies and Moffat.
This show used to genuinely inspire thinking and love of knowledge and care and compassion and now it's just nonsensical. I've loved this show since 1979 and sometimes this makes me want to cry. You think that makes me negative? You think what I'm saying is negative? Why is it you don't think the show is negative? WHY?

This has to be my favourite review so far 😊
    It is so insightful 😊
I agree on the music being a theme and possibly due to the hidden song within Ruby. I personally think this episode would have been better placed before Devils Chord. The first time seeing a planet like this yet in Devils Chord the mention of travelling together for 6 months, the hints with the music being important in this episode would then translate better to the lack of music sorry more change in music in Devils Chord and the importance of it.
I do have to say one thing and it has been the same in every review, you all state Ruby was shot dead but she wasn't dead she never actually fully died she was near death but never died. The Ambulance was preparing to basically kill her with the Next of kin bit as it did with the soldier. Ruby was upset because she couldn't think who her next of kin would be hence the snow as she was trying to remember or think who to name. The ambulance glitching on it is because there is only a record of her birth but none of parents and that 'confused' it's algorithm.
I loved the Doctor speaking parent to parent to Splices Dad and getting through to him that way and a parents love for their child saving the day. I loved the fake out of ambulance appearing as a hologram and saying the AI failed then glitching out and him not having failed. I do think the mention yet again of The Doctor being a parent could be significant and more to come BUT his playing on that in this situation was a natural thing to do for me so may actually not be.
Overall I think this is my favourite episode so far, it's not perfect but I would say it's a 8-8.5/10 I may change that to higher depending on episodes that follow I like to leave some leeway 😂
The best Steven Moffat episode ever no a bloody good episode yes.
