Singer Anna Murphy is the daughter of an Irish and a Swiss opera singer, grew up in Switzerland and lives there. She is known through the folk metal band Eluveitie, where she was a singer and hurdy-gurdy player from 2005 to 2016. While recording a new album, she got into a heated argument with founder Chrigel and spontaneously left the band with two other members. Shortly afterwards the three founded Cellar Darling. Their first single, where they can also be seen:

Oh wow you did Cellar Darling, such a cool band! So this is from the album The Spell their second album and it is a concept album about this girl born as the daughter of the earth to carry all of it's pain and her relationship with death. In this song Death casts a spell to make the girl live forever so she will never meet Death again. My favourite songs of this album are: Insomnia, Freeze, Death and Drown. As for the first album my favourites are: Black Moon, Avalanche, Under The Oak Tree and The Challenge.

I knew her from Eluveitie, an amazing artist.
Also, their song "Hang", oh, so sad, so beautiful.

    • @DanTheSqueegeeMan
      @DanTheSqueegeeMan 11 месяцев назад

Hang is one their most underrated songs. I love how the lyrics are super dark but the music actually light and soothing. That is obviously by design, but intriguing (and possibly triggering if suicidal themes are triggering for you…. Caution)

I tried this band a while ago and it was ok. The former band Eluveite is the juggernaut though. Rebirth or Ategnatos. Edit: OK, just listened back to this on the main system and I like it better. Eluveite song that is most popular with her is Call of the Mountain.

Really like Cellar Darling. Also had the pleasure to see them live and she sings just as well live. Plus she plays hurdy gurdy, keys and flute. Super talented.
Also if you haven't, check out Eluveitie. Rebirth is a good starter. Another amzing live band I have had the pleasure to see.

I personally prefer the second album, but you are right… many good songs on the first. A bit mainstreamy sometimes. I enjoy the prog elements in the second album so much more… but luckily we all have different tastes

Thank you for taking my suggestion. I’m glad you liked it. Cellar Darling are all former members of the swiss folk metal band Eluveitie.
The band is a trio: Anna Murphy, vocalist and Multiinstrumentalist. Plays the hurdy gurdy, flute, piano and writes all the lyrics. She is also a sound engineer and music producer. Ivo Henzi, guitars and bass, Merlin Sutter, drums and manager of the band.
They define themselves as heavy progressive rock, which I think is appropriate, cause it’s sometimes definitely not metal.
    Some songs worth checking out:
    Death
    Burn
    Insomnia (my favorite)
    Freeze
    Drown
    Dance
    Six Days
    Black moon
Avalanche ( the last two are more rock/ pop metal style but nonetheless interesting)
Thank you, cosmic. Very much appreciated that you respond to suggestions 😀 you kick ass, dude. Greetings from Germany!!

Very interesting, yes there's something very charming about her voice, quite striking at times. It didn't move as much as I'd like, but that was likely by design with the drone sound. Overall a very good song, I'd have to hear more to know for sure if I'd like them. TY for sharing this with us Cosmic ❤and ✌️ all
