Rain by Charles Bukowski

  • 🔰Bukowski described the rain as music and I did my best to sound-design a thunderstorm to accompany his poem. As a cinematographer, if I told you to close your eyes to experience my work it would seem ironic but this is the case with this one so if you ever rewatch it try to pay attention to all the little sounds.
Shoutout to Chubbz for polishing the narration audio and to J.S. for giving me access to his sound library.

    🔰Rain by Charles Bukowski
    a symphony orchestra.
    there is a thunderstorm,
they are playing a Wagner overture
and the people leave their seats under the trees
and run inside to the pavilion
the women giggling, the men pretending calm,
    wet cigarettes being thrown away,
Wagner plays on, and then they are all under the
pavilion. the birds even come in from the trees
and enter the pavilion and then it is the Hungarian
Rhapsody #2 by Lizst, and it still rains, but look,
one man sits alone in the rain
listening. the audience notices him. they turn
and look. the orchestra goes about its
business. the man sits in the night in the rain,
listening. there is something wrong with him,
    isn't there?
    he came to hear the
    music.

I would suggest the use of headphones, to experience the thunderstorm to its full potency. I hope Charles Bukowski can keep you some company during our social distancing adventures. Stay safe all :)

The sound of the orchestra paralyzes the man. he notices briefly and understands their reasoning for it. And. he’ll catch a chill.. and after a few moments, lightning flashes, and he opens his eyes again.. The birds will come back out from under the pavilion when it slows down again...
    I’m thankful for Bukowski...

What I really love about Charles Bukowski is his free style, he just has to say something and says it and it comes out really beautiful because it's genuine. There are a lot of poems that he wrote that I don't like but I learned so much from him as a poet and I started to write a new style of poetry, while remaining my style, because of his poems. Again, your videos really brought that about, everything you do really enhances the beauty of his poems and also those of other poets. The message of this video, the recital by the man himself and the music and your filming was great. Thank you for bringing us hope and poetry in these dismal times.

@Joe Cosgrove reading makes us more humane and also if you want to write well you should read well and read world literature

@@geekygear8569 👏👏👏 Agreed! (It's a sad reflection of the state of YT comments that I feel I have to clarify that I'm not being sarcastic, not taking the piss, I genuinely agree with your advocacy of world literature & the advantages of reading substantial books in general).

This is something I can come back to every day. Beautiful. Loved all of it n yes listening to it with closed eyes was a beautiful experience. The shift to the lighthouse clip was the only one I thought broke the harmony of the piece a lil bit but nevertheless. You are immensely gifted n please keep posting for us. Thank you!

Would you consider using a SOUNDLESS intro/outro so these can be enjoyed better on repeat?
