As a Catholic school teacher in California, my only concern is that once you take government money, there are strings attached and the state may believe they can dictate how we run our schools, who we can and cannot admit, and what we can and cannot say. One only needs to look at the Catholic educational system in Canada. I’m just highly suspicious of anything with ties to the state. Not all what glitters is gold.

Catholic schools were still being forced to use common core & do the testing & that was what we were trying to get away from. That and the cost for 2 kids was equivalent to a mortgage payment. When the Industrial Revolution took place industry needed workers who can read, write and do basic arithmetic. The shift changed to children being required to have education in the public schools. Unfortunately, today public education has become more than the basics, it has become contrary to family values and not teaching the basics to a reasonable standard (reading, writing and arithmetic - and we add American government and history). Parents ought to have the right to have their education dollars to send their children to the schools of their choice for better learning and moral outcomes.

I worry, as a Catholic, that religion is to “spice up democracy”. A Prince of Christ is first a Catholic and secondly, whatever his nationality. So few, willing to promote conversion to the one true Church.
Years ago my sister had to drive through dangerous places and 30 miles to go to a school where they believe in and learn about God. My Dad had to pay a pretty penny for it too. Let's fix that. There's only one true God, one Savior Jesus Christ.
Education Savings Accounts including home-schooled students should be offered. Government schools should be schools of last resort for a small percent of the population.

Historically in America education was grounded in the Church where children were taught; especially to read the Bible. When the Industrial Revolution took place industry needed workers who can read, write and do basic arithmetic. The shift changed to children being required to have education in the public schools. Unfortunately, today public education has become more than the basics, it has become contrary to family values and not teaching the basics to a reasonable standard (reading, writing and arithmetic - and we add American government and history). Parents ought to have the right to have their education dollars to send their children to the schools of their choice for better learning and moral outcomes.
