Historically in America education was grounded in the Church where children were taught; especially to read the Bible. When the Industrial Revolution took place industry needed workers who can read, write and do basic arithmetic. The shift changed to children being required to have education in the public schools. Unfortunately, today public education has become more than the basics, it has become contrary to family values and not teaching the basics to a reasonable standard (reading, writing and arithmetic - and we add American government and history). Historically in America education was grounded in the Church where children were taught; especially to read the Bible. When the Industrial Revolution took place industry needed workers who can read, write and do basic arithmetic. The shift changed to children being required to have education in the public schools. Unfortunately, today public education has become more than the basics, it has become contrary to family values and not teaching the basics to a reasonable standard (reading, writing and arithmetic - and we add American government and history). Parents ought to have the right to have their education dollars to send their children to the schools of their choice for better learning and moral outcomes.
