Don, first of all thank you for the video. Second, it would have been nice if you explained why you were setting things up in the menu and why? For example, I am going to this section to program this because...and this will.....
Hopefully, at least SOME of this will make sense one day. From the perspective of a newbie just considering getting a license, there wasn't much I could understand.
Don, excellent introduction. Please help me move to the next level: I am still having difficulty with screen navigation. Example: a toggle yields different screens depending on the then-current screen. Suggestions for finding a decision-tree-like map for navigating?
Thanks for the video, it's very helpful. Is there a reason why this thing doesn't receive HF/80/40/etc well, when the shield side of the coax feed line is connected? If I just slide the center conductor in with no shield attached, it receives very well. I have the antenna set for external. Does it need to see exactly or very close to 50 ohms? It's an Myantennas 80/10 EFHW. A bit confused on this one, haven't tried a tuner yet... Thanks Don.
When you want to go to Menu 506, it would be kinder to show how they can press the Menu button, then the keys '5' '0' '6'. Then too, if they want to enter text, merely going to the next keypad button will accept the last key without having to press the Enter or center button to accept the last used letter.
I am a rookie in 2 meters. I followed every single step until i scanned the frequencies nearby my GPS position and I was not successful to copy to somebody. Is there anyway that i can use another repeater frequency? The video is excellent. I learned a lot. Thanks.
Hello Don. Can you do a deeper dive on setting up APRS on here from a blind mans perspective perhaps? We have a large list of Blind hams trying to learn the exact key presses. If you can it would be a hit! Thanks Ronny K4RJJ Knoxville
I think what is happening is as soon as you turn the APRS 12 on a command to TX is in que then the radio makes a transmission I think that is why is going on email me directly if you need more help w6gps At Yahoo Dot Com
The technology is impressive, but in all honesty I've never been impressed with the audio quality of D-Star or Yaesu Fusion for that matter. (sounds like underwater) :) I've listened to commercial P-25 APCO trunked systems; guess it spoiled me when I heard what a well designed system can do.
Hi Don. Great video. I get lost at 9:30 in. I've been playing with it for several days and I'm still stuck. Can you please enlighten meas to where I'm messing up? Thanks.
Don, I'm having trouble getting the radio to go into the DR mode. I've tried to follow your steps here exactly. When I do the "F"/Digital Mode it simply comes up in DV. The Digital Mode menu only gives me like items 1, 4, 6, 7, 9. Thoughts? KA4HOT
I'm having an issue with the www.dstargateway.org site. Then I tried the reference from this page to www.dstarusers.org/repeaters.php -- Is this for Georgia hams only?
So I followed along with this, and my radio does not have DR mode? Mode just switches between DV and FM, and DV/DR select is not available in the Digital menu. My callsign IS entered in menu 610... Any ideas?
press the function key and then digital you will see menu settings with the DV or DR option click the DV/DR menu item to toggle between DV and DR modes hope this helps best 73 de G0UDG
I had the same issue - no matter how many times I selected the DV/DR option, it never switched to DR mode - my fix was to push the [VFO] button (the "1" button) - voilá. I am suspecting that my issue was due to being 'attached' to a saved memory!?!?
I bought this radio and it's a bitch to go through the menu to get to were you want and I cannot with the software program my local DSTAR repeater you can't add in DV mode the Repeat 1 and Repeat 2 box will not display or put in a 2 meter offset (2.555). KJ6ACO
Don: Just bought this radio. There are NO instructions anywhere on how to program in repeaters. The "manual" doesn't even mention the topic. This is crazy.
Thanks for showing how to set the HT up! I am still awaiting for mine to arrive but getting ready by watching the setup videos :)
First Kenwood and first time into D-Star. Thanks for the quick bootstrap!
well, thank you very much for that info. Got one Jan of 2020, never turned it on yet!! Going for my General class ticket soon.
Fantastic job Don thanks 73 from kb2uew

Great tutorials, can you make a video using voice guidance to program DSTAR?
What about cross band in analog
This would be useful for blind hands using Kenwood TH Dash D74A.
GPS Position is not reporting in D-Star (DPRS) is that a known bug? I used the settings you have in this video.
Hi Don, great video thank you. Have you tried pairing this with a bluetooth headset?
I have tried several headsets and no luck...still investigating

Still work fine, no issues?
kk6sje your very helpful thank you very much
When I turned on APRS12, I also get GPS (in red) right underneath. Is that Ok or did I miss a step? Great video by the way. de K6KNS

I think you're correct. It did not happen again so all is good. Thanks!
Don, will the D74 support duplex mode, receive while transmitting, for satellite operation?
Last I heard in one of Don's other videos is that it will not support full duplex :(
as of now I cannot do this and programming software does not show a way to do this....
In DSTAR, how do you set RPT1 and RPT2?
But is it any good as a simplex radio
Looking like far too much frustration. 73

You went nice and slow until the digital mode stuff and then you flew through it and I got lost.
Hi Don. Great video. I get lost at 9:30 in. I've been playing with it for several days and I'm still stuck. Can you please enlighten meas to where I'm messing up? Thanks.
Do you have a copy of 1.11 firmware? or a link I can have to update my 74A TIA
I can’t get my gps to work just solid not flashing icon
Don, does this radio support the noaa weather radio and alerting like the D72 does?
yes it does like D72
Is it possible to sett the units to degrees centigrade and meters in the american TH-D74A version?
We just tried it, it's possible.

I have this exact same problem! I did a full reset and followed along with this EXACTLY and NO DR MODE. AT ALL.
I figured my issue. I was missing my repeater list. Works great now.
Just got my new radio and need help with step size.....?
hit F (function) opens sub menu scroll to bottom select * use encoder to school to step size
I'm having an issue with the www.dstargateway.org site. Then I tried the reference from this page to www.dstarusers.org/repeaters.php -- Is this for Georgia hams only?

Is there a way to punch in the frequency of the D-STAR repeater manually?
I bought this radio and it's a bitch to go through the menu to get to were you want and I cannot with the software program my local DSTAR repeater you can't add in DV mode the Repeat 1 and Repeat 2 box will not display or put in a 2 meter offset (2.555). KJ6ACO
