  • I went on a long bike ride through Irpinia, a mountainous area in the province of Avellino, south of Italy.
Initially I intended to reach Montevergine, the sanctuary high up on the mountain of Mercolliano.
However I wasn't aware that there is another town called Montevergine. So I chose the wrong course on Garmin connect.
I ended up choosing another route that took me to Bagnoli Irpino, the town known for truffles, first, then to Chiusano. I met another biker on the way and we made friends.
All in all I covered 90km with 1km positive altitude gain.
I also witnessed how sparsely populated Irpinia is, and the slow decline of rural lifestyle.
I also felt content after a tough countryside ride, with no traffic, a sharp contrast from my own urban surroundings.
