Happy Wednesday, Weatherman Mark. House sustained pretty significant damage here yesterday morning just north of Dallas. 45 year old tree split in half, fence damaged, neighbor’s trampoline teetering on our fence. But all are ok! That was crazy!! Sending love to all! 🙏🤗

People think Texas is cheaper to live in than other States, and it is, except for the storm damage you incur. That is a game-changer, so be warned. I still love living in Texas.
It’ll probably be like most years where we get all riled up over 20 or so hurricanes that just run out to sea and die with maybe 2 making landfall. Wash, rinse and repeat.

Are 60-80 mph winds+ becoming the norm with every storm now? One that hit Houston yesterday kept moving my car as I was driving in it. Heavy wind gusts, probably 80 or so on the north side+ nearly golf ball sized hail. Also not to mention 3 inches of rain in an hour or less by my place.
The winds topped 75 mph, thank goodness. But I do agree with your statement. The winds from these squall lines are becoming even stronger as the years pass. A few years back, we had a cell embedded within a squall line that reached up to 90 mph. Crazy stuff.
@@Agoodpro I remember that one! The sky kept flashing funny colors with the most intense lightning I ever seen. Yesterday’s winds didn’t feel short of a weak hurricane. Wasn’t anything scary but definitely heavier than normal.
@@Lance.pigman I didn't get the worst of it. What's crazy is that during the morning, the forecast was actually looking concerning as the right ingredients were in place. But once again, the storms weakened as they reached the area... or rather split in half. There was a massive cell southwest of Houston that was producing large hail. And then another cell northeast of Houston producing large hail and strong damaging winds. The velocity signature was reminiscent of the derecho two weeks ago. I was directly in the middle, so all I got was just some heavy rain.
Agree. It seems like every weather event in Houston now is a crisis. Heat? 115 degrees. Rain? You need some hail and hurricane force winds. Cold? Here's 15 degrees and frozen pipes (it will be 60 degrees next day). And hurricanes? Here's Harvey for ya. What is going on?

But for everything else, yeah I agree. But there are some other places that are definitely getting it worse than us.

Well, that is incorrect. One of the two main types of derechos, serial and progressive, serial derechos are defined by being associated with a boundary such as a cold front or dry line. They usually have multiple bow echos associated with them forming a LEWP, or Line Echo Wave Pattern. These derechos are most common during the winter and early spring months simply due to the fact that cold fronts are most common during those times. Think of a serial derecho as being a very long tracked squall line that formed along a cold front, and this squall line maintained winds above 58mph. Progressive derechos on the other hand are derechos that aren't associated with existing low pressures, but are rather their own storm structures that are typically isolated. These derechos form perpendicular to the mean flow as opposed to parallel to the squall line axis like the serial derechos. Progressive derechos form in late spring and during the summer, and they are the most common type usually forming in the midwest and ohio valley regions. Hopefully this helps.
Already, the waves coming off of Africa look to be in lower latitudes nearer the equator. I saw that 2 years ago which seemed to result in fewer hurricanes threatening the U.S. on both the Atlantic side and Gulf side.
Well that's because it's May. As the atmosphere heats up as we approach summer, the ITCZ should move north. That's when the tropical waves will become a threat.

SE Kentucky had a tornado Sunday around 1:45 P.M. it was 2 miles down road I live on. Internet was out 2 days. Lots of power outages here. Trees down everywhere and some on houses.
I rode the Celina Tx tornado out! When it hit I was shouting/ praying “Father!! Your angels on assignment!” My granddaughter was in underground shelter with her husband and daughter on the phone! The owner of this property lost 3 silos and 4 barns right where I live in a little house! We know angels stood guard as my house should have blown up! 1 1/2 miles down so many lost gorgeous homes! Praying in huge roar! Then dead silence! I will have to have a new roof! Adjuster said something supernatural happened? Ha!!
