  • In this Diet-Mental Health Break, Dr. Felice Jacka and her colleagues at Deakin University set out to determine whether eating a healthy diet for 3 months could lead to significant improvements in moderate to severe depression. She and her team conducted the first-ever randomized controlled trial to find out, and to explore the link between diet and clinical depression. Turns out that the group that ate the healthy Mediterranean-style diet for three months showed significantly fewer symptoms of depression and anxiety compared to the control group. In fact, 32.3% of those eating the healthy diet experienced clinical remission of depression, compared to just 8% of the participants who ate their regular diet. Watch the video to see how the findings from this study not only illuminated the causal link between diet and depression, but revealed other benefits that extend beyond mental health.
