Great interview. I thought already that there wouldn't come any more expansions. I read ideas of new pieces on the internet and they were not all completely right to me. Some of them were even OP to me. Some could create a situation with an early draw. And some were not very different to pieces we already have. Also we don't may have so many pieces because then some pieces wouldn't be used at all. But still when I watch those tournaments it feels like we just needed a little more as a finishing touch. A lot of the matches end in a draw. Many times because moving a piece would help the other player and moving an ant one space shall not make a big difference on the board. The problem with a new piece is that black or white doesn't may have a much higher chance of winning the game. The only thing I could come up with is this:
The fly: It may only move two spaces. It also has an extra effect. The fly is in this war forced to work with the spider. If you have a fly and a spider on the board you may do the following thing. The spider can go to the fly. But it doesn't may create two boards. Also the spider may only be dropped where there is no piece from the other player next to. So just like when you play a piece from your hand. When you have a straight pin with a white piece, a black fly and another white piece you can't place the spider there. Because of this you can't drop the spider immediately attached to the queen of the other player. Also you may only use your own flies and spiders. I would say that everybody would have two flies in his/her team. And I would use the colour pink because we don't have it already and that colour is really different. Then we would have a total of 32 pieces just like in chess. And then we maybe would have less draws. I think it wouldn't be OP but we would only be sure if we would try it out.
But still I also see of course a lot of great tournament plays. It is my favourite two player game. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for interviewing, fascinating to see the mind behind such a brilliant game. :) I wonder if the film he mentioned inspiring Hive was The Seventh Seal?
