- A beginning to end playthrough of DreamWorks Interactive's 1997 Windows 95 game, R. L. Stine Goosebumps: Attack of the Mutant.
I made to sure to get EVERYTHING possible, so this video shows all of the hidden costume pieces being collected, as well as the special ending that you get for collecting them all.
Many of your guys requested that I play through this after I did Goosebumps: Escape from Horrorland (you can check out that playthrough here: • Goosebumps: Attack of ... ). Sorry that it took so long for me to get around to doing this video - but here it is at last! I hope it was worth the wait. The video was recorded directly from Windows 8.1 from a disc image I made off of my original CD (mainly to avoid the load times incurred when reading directly from the game disc). It plays just fine with no tweaks despite being 19 years old this year!
Unlike Escape from Horrorland, this is not an FMV adventure game. Rather, it is a first-person shooter with hilariously tacky cel-shaded cartoon characters. Still, for as much as this game has aged, it still looks good - anyone that remembers playing this when it was new can attest to what an amazing looking game it was back in 1997. Seriously, it ran smoothly on my Pentium 133mhz with 32 megs of RAM using a 2D-only PCI video accelerator card! That was quite the feat, even if it was running at the now-considered paltry resolution of 640x480 in 8-bit color mode (256 colors on-screen at once).
The videos interspersed throughout are pretty hilarious - torso's wiggle about independent of their lower halves, everyone gesticulates wildly like they're trying to put out a fire, and there are some genuinely hilarious moments through them - my favorite has to be when the Galloping Gazelle (a guy who's superpower seems to be having gazelle legs and ears - he action-movie kicks pretty epicly with his bizarrely misshapen limbs) has one of his legs "erased". and you have to help him out by tossing a random golden woman's leg at him that you found hanging out on a floating bit of ice. Seriously - he puts on a female's detached golden leg, and proceeds to kick the bejeezus out of this enemy. And the best part - Gazelle is played by Adam West! You can't make this stuff up!
I loved the books as a kid, and the game was a pretty entertaining, pleasantly high budget affair Hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed reliving the memories of it :)
And finally, the voice cast is pretty heavy hitting for a game this old! Here are the actors, I'm sure you'll recognize at least a few of them:
Jim Belushi - Masked Mutant
Mary Kay Bergman - Flo
Kimberly Brooks - Dinah Mite
Jodi Carlisle - Chin Chilla
Michael Donovan - Captain Bob, Penguin, Magnificent Molecule Man
Keri Tombazini - Babblin Brooke
Adam West - Galloping Gazelle
John Garry - Wartlock
Scott LaRosa - Feedback
Matt Levin - Root Rot
Roger Rose - Pinky Flamingo
Steve Schatzberg - Toadie Tim, Tina, Tod

Oh man, nostalgia overload... Got this for my birthday some time in the 90s and didn't know how to play it. I just remember thinking how amazingly realistic it looked.
Same here I never knew how to play it
Same! Had it when I was a kid and was very impressed with the graphics at the time. Never knew how to play it though 😂
Man same deal! Came back to it when I was like 10 (2002ish) and crushed it. Always got stuck on "y-y-you've got to help me, pull myself together"
It scared the fuckout of me when I was a kid
Same lol. I got stuck on that ice level and gave up. Remember finding this game terrifying
I like how Adam West reprised his role as the Gazelle in this game since he was Gazelle in the actual goosebumps episode. RIP Adam West, we all miss you
Truly, a fascinating game. I'm really sad it's so convuluted at times that I couldn't figure it out as a child. Teleporting into a painting behind me at the beginning was the puzzle I never solved.
This game is hilarious, and it has got an amazing cast of voice actors - Jim Belushi as the Masked Mutant and Adam West as the classic Galloping Gazelle, anyone?
Adam West also did The Gazelle on the Television Show
@@keishonhill3345 True, although at least in this game he’s not as cowardly or wimpy as in the TV series or the original book. In the latter two, the Mutant kidnaps GG in order to lure Skipper (the protagonist) back into the Mutant’s lair; Skipper manages to rescue GG, and together they go after the Mutant, but after being tripped by the Mutant during a whirlwind attack (and, in the book, being faced with a leopard-Mutant), GG suddenly bails and leaves Skipper to fend for himself against the Mutant.
I have a question did you download or buy the game
@@Dino-hunter_123 I have the original cd
@@NintendoComplete thanks for telling me i was just asking if you downloaded or have the cd
That rat following segment is truly the pinnacle of gaming...
you like dat ass don't you
Damn boy he tick
hearing the mutant yell "get thAT KID!!!" is still freaking excruciatingly terrifying...fuck.
im 32. this game still makes me feel alone and creeped out for some reason. something about the emptiness of the maps and the 'audio before the visual' bad guys
30 here. Pinky Flamingo scares the crap out of me to this day
I have ptsd watching this
@@horse_tornado7820lmfao im pretty sure my sister had a crush on the pink flamingo hahahaha
Love how they didn't even bother filming the intro at night. You get off the bus during the day time and BAM it's night.
I just got a random moment of nostalgia for this game. As a kid, I found myself unable to beat it. I recently downloaded it and beat it 100% completion with all the costume parts.
there're games that i wasnt capable of beating as a kid back then, but good news is i finally did it when i've grown up.
I loved the Goosebumps Books and TV Series, I love Being a 90's kid . I'm 38 years old and this brings me back to a simpler time when TV, Music and games were so much better than the crap on "TV" today.
these productions made during dat period of time have some kinds of special charming attraction on'em and even today i still cant figure out. but i know i would still love'em even when i've reached 100. lol
You're so right. I know it's cliche to say, but they really just don't make em like they used to. After the PS3/360 era something sinister happened to gaming, and the entertainment industry as a whole. Not the least of which is the phasing out of physical media.
This was (and is) one of my favorite PC games growing up. It was challenging back then, yet not so now lol
I remember being addicted to the Goosebumps series when I was younger, but I can't for the life of me remember ANY of the various storylines now, lol.
Yellowblanka that’s good , I would love to un remember all the episodes as I’ve seen them so much and want to keep seeing totem
@@jacobmedina9011 Was talking about the books, I don't think there was a TV show when I was reading them, not sure. I remember I would trade books with my mother's co-worker's son.
They really should make a new Goosebumps game. The Horror Town mobile game is nice and all, but it's only a matter of time before people start losing interest in it.
They should make an first-person episodic series where the player has to travel through different Goosebumps books, defeat Slappy and his band of Goosebumps monsters (Haunted Mask, The Creeps, Masked Mutant, Lord High Executioner, and Sarabeth - with her Monster Blood), and save R.L. Stine (played by Jack Black).
H'O'R'R'O'R'!

🤣🤣🤣🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
@@naelyncarebareslovergamer3934 lololol
@BK Beatty oh my goodness yess that’s one of my favorite parts!! 😂😂 Such a classic movie!! 👍🏻
So much nostalgia! This game was the best!
i wonder if someone can mod this in doom
that feeling you have is adam west flexing on your soul.
Rest in peace Adam west
Man the 90s so diffrent back then. I would say in some cases better.
You’re not wrong. I was born in ‘91, & the internet was fairly rudimentary when I was in middle school (didn’t get a flip phone until sophomore year lol), which I appreciate in some ways. If I’d grown up with the internet, I’d be even more slovenly and lazy than I already am.
RIP Adam West
Yes RIP In he’d played an awesome Roll in Goosebumps and the old Batman show
Pinky scares the crap out of me especially when you realize he can erase a leg from your body!
Bro I’m 26 and this game itself still scares the f*ck outta me, even the tv series scares me like it mind boggles me how it was for children. I mean that shit wouldn’t even pass today. I mean I saw the new goosebumps from Disney. It was terrible, a little scary but nothing compared to the 1996 series hahaha 😂😂
I remember getting this game on CD from a postcard mail-in contest. My dad's Pentium 2 PC couldn't handle it. It was super laggy and almost unplayable. Seems like technology's advanced a bit.
oh this is the moment that turns people down. when you think your gonna play a game soon, then it apparently fails to run the game. and it makes it sound like the end of the world! i think most of us could get the picture!
Rip Adam West (Galloping Gazelle). Is too bad Skipper Matthews (Elastic Boy) wasn't in this game.
Theory: what if the silent protagonist is skipper and the video game is a stealth sequel to the book think about it?
Crossley Productions If you look up attack of the mutant on the goosebumps wiki and go to the plot part at the near end skipper cut his hand with the night and he bleeds Ink and he’s still a comic book character and he reads his new comic that came in as he suspect his career in comics isn’t over yet it’s possibly hinted that the masked mutant survived after being turned Into Sulfuric acid and if my theory is true that The game is a self sequel to the book it would also explain the silent protagonist’s stop is in the middle of nowhere it’s skipper and why The silent protagonist immediately begins reading the comic book in his bag it’s possibly the same stop that Skipper had in the book btw i’m always wonder how did the masked mutant (and the other comic book characters from the game and they are two from the book) got to the real world
gosh i remember playing this when i was like 5 or 6 and being terrified
So nostalgic. I just randomly thought of this game. I can remember my dad bringing in our first PC and all of us watching my dad play this. Then me just watching my brothers play lol.
I probably played this when I was 6 years old. It scared me so badly as a kid.
wow, a great number of people feel really scared of this game here, which is really compelling me to seek the game and play with it! my heart is full of superb excitement right now!
@@wilsonray7209 did you end up playing it? If so, id love to hear your opinion on it!
@@jonbourgoin182 i tried to look up how to run PC games on my laptop during the past few days, but to no avail. cant even imagine why its not easy to achieve this despite the fact that we're already living in the year of 2024. XD But meh, just hoping to succeed soon.
I want to see a new game like this.
Or a remake of it.
Rip adam West
This game actually looks fun
Oh man, it was, kinda sorta lol it was very, very vague, that’s for sure. But then again, being a little kid in the 90’s, I had the time to waste learning the shit outta this one lol
If I ever have kids, I am so getting this game for them
good idea.
My first "horror" game.
This game got me into the horror survival genre
I remember playing this long ago! Thanks for the nostalgia!
0:02:23 Gotta make sure you kiss your watermelon as soon as he makes eye contact with you.
The secret villain was Watermelon Guy.
i had no idea the voice of the masked mutant was James Belushi from According to Jim
Man this brings me backi
50:51 For the rest of the day, whenever anyone says the secret word, scream real loud.
+Spike Riley AHHHHHHHHH! *cue obnoxious zooming camera effect*
Pee-Wee's PlayHouse reference!
R.I.P Adam West
I would have loved this so much!!!! I can't believe this is real!!!! So cool, thanks for the upload!
man i remember watching a playthrough of this in 2009 as a kid, it looked so cool. Even now it still looks like a bit of fun.
This is the craziest comment I've ever read... A 3 Year old comment... talking about watching this as a kid... In 2009... I played this shit in like '97.
I'm old as fck 😔
@@mood_court you're not alone, man. I'm right there with you on this sentiment. The worst part is reading comments on songs from bands you enjoyed as kid that were popular at the time. Nothing will make you feel as old as that does.
This game used to scare the shit out of me as a kid lol
Attack of the Mutant is one os my favorite Goosebumps chapters🦹
This is such a great game. I was 12 when it came out and I remember playing it obsessively. It had its challenges (like most games do) but it had the silly and scary qualities you’d expect with something related to Goosebumps.
Goosebumps is not scary it's a investment for kids for
DreamWorks Interactive's deluxe edition movie for a game
a lot more sorrowed by DreamWorks Skg's Vs The Ultimate DreamWorks Interactive's deluxe
Well..... What are we picking a game for DreamWorks Interactive?

@@richardabsher8545 geezus man, calm down and let people enjoy things.
I remember finally beating this game. I used to play this with my stepfather and this really brings me back. In between all the molestation, this was our favorite thing to do. He's in prison now.
... What?
@@TrelliessRose i second this....really shocked and speechless as i kept reading his comment.
@@wilsonray7209 yeah... this comment was wholesome...until it wasn't..
@@jonbourgoin182 well i have no intention to harm this cm poster in any way, but judging from the content of this cm and his display name, hmmmm now i kind of doubt maybe hes a troll or something?
Oh DUDE!!!! I hope they remaster this, the joy I got from playing and never finishing it 😂😂😂
I played this game when I was 9 years old, it was really fun
I never got any further than like 20 minutes into this game, I was so dumb 😅
So much nostalgia, I never got past the ice level as a kid. Would not have expected an enslaved race of frog people as the next part lmao
Omg... I just saw the purple boss from another video.. and I felt he was sooo familiar
Turns out I did play this game long ago. It was very scary and exciting last time. Good memories!
This was my shit back in the late 90s, looking back, it was just shit lol but back then it was MY shit. OUR shit lol nostalgia to the max.
Viewers beware, you're in for a scare. Goosebumps
Rest in peace Adam West
would be great to mix this with a doom mod.
helll yeah
but where's the twist ending?
Got this for christmas one year because my family couldnt find Escape from Horrorland. Wasn't a bad substitute but to short.
I used to play this all the time from 4th to 6th grade. How I miss it. I never realized until now that at 23:44 they got the Patronus thing down before it even was a thing!
Loved this game
I looove goosebumps a lot but I never read Attack of the mutant before though.
It was a good one, I read a lot of Goosebumps when I was a kid, but Attack of the Mutant is one of the few that stuck with me for some reason. Hence what brought me to watching this playthrough.
The winter part was where I got stuck as a kid lol
Same. I had problems with jumping. Playing it again recently, I still had trouble, but I finally made it through.
That level was HARD! Like that one jump was impossible to master, but then you get it and the rest just kind goes
@@LightSourceTemple I know. Its so weird.
I tried to beat that part for weeks
Bruh we would try to beat this shit at family Christmas parties every year... still have yet to beat it to this damn day 20 something years later lol
We had this on one of our school computers and would play it all the time
The Nostalgia 🖤
This game is a fever dream and I love it
Kid- Mom can we get doom 64?
Mom- no honey we have doom 64 at home.
Doom 64 at home…
Let's be real, there are far worse "DooM 64 at Home" games than this one.
Nostalgia overload man! I could never beat the green house!!!! Haha
22:20 Hey! It's the Dreamworks fishing boy, who was modeled after the son of Robert Hunt, the logo's illustrator.
Lol the 2d sprites chasing you instead of realistic ones scares me more than most horror games these days
This game takes place either before or after the battle between skipper and the mutant
I liked this game better than the actual book and episode
Can you play the disc of this game on Windows 11?
56:43 My life in a nutshell..
Oh god my heart
I got this game from a fox kids contest back in the day. I thought this game was pretty difficult amd actually scary. I never did beat it
I swear I got this from a cereal box
You're probably thinking of Chex Quest which was an FPS game that ran on the DooM engine, and came with Chex cereal boxes.
If there was an animated Goosebumps series, then I think that Patrick Seitz, Jim Cummings, and Christopher Sabat all would be an amazing Masked Mutant. As For Japanese then Hideyuki Hori, Katsuyuki Konishi, and Junichi Suwabe.
Rip ADAM WEST 1928 - 2017
Bro I played this in my schools aftercare probably 13 years ago and I found it again. I have the faintest memory of it, I think the version I played was a demo
Forget about shrek 2 this is a dreamworks masterpiece.
i remember playing in highschool and reading the books . what a time
1:00:16 Remember when Goosebumps stories were dark or scary and didn't featured a villain crying because he was covered in slime with fart sounds? Me too.
Man, stories like The Ghost Next Door would've been better if it had that.
I’m getting Chex quest vibes
Holy CRAP, Adam West did VO for the character introduced at 23:00?! So now this game is secretly great, okay...and apparently the super hero he plays is "Gucci Mane", according to his logo.
See what I did there?
Edit: Yes, I know I'm a year late on the comment. I still didn't see any similar posts or jokes from before now, so I'll leave mine.
I couldn't help myself.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get this game to play on a modern PC? I grabbed it from the abandonware site, but I get a weird error on launching/crashing, "Assert failure: file ..\panels\dxpanel\dxpanel.cpp line 795"
Have you tried running it in Compatibility mode?
@@FIDEL_CASHFLOW_ Yeah, nada.

The best of the game is that The Masked Mutant is voiced by Jim Belushi!
This game is so scary it's funny

@Lucky Clover Studios I love for that to happen to my girlfriend. She's all covered in green goo then she starts shrinking and fart noises happen while she's disappearing
