- Jarlyk is back with yet another AMAZING Tool Assisted Speedrun. After the response from the original 0 Geo TAS, he set out to create a TAS where the player has Gathering Swarm equipped from the very start.

Hey everyone! Once again: Massive shoutouts to @jarlyk for creating this, as well as allowing me to take a look at it. Go check out his channel!
Also, I want to say, that this will probably be the last TAS breakdown/reaction i post onto my channel, as i wanna focus on more original content that feels less leech-y off of other people's hard work. Reaction content is okay as long as you're able to add some interesting insight into it, which I feel I am as a speedrunner, but i still don't want my channel to be just that, if that makes sense. Yeah this is literally just a worse version of the original commentated Tas, you just say ‘wow this is so cool I don’t know what to say’ and ‘hey guys I don’t know if you noticed, but he actually makes the geo orbit him’
@@chlli Personally, I do enjoy seeing peoples' reactions. It adds another layer to the experience and it's especially fun as the creator to see how people process it. Also, just in case it's not clear, Blue made this video with my permission and blessing, so there's no theft going on here. Blue has a larger audience than my channel at the moment, so I'm happy to see a broader audience get to enjoy what I spent so much time making.
For the people that are confused about what Blue meant by "the movement is human, but inhumanly precise", this is what I am like 99% sure he meant. The TAS's movement tech (for the most part) is humanly possible. However, the way the TAS uses that movement, is far too precise for humans.
TL;DR no crazy TAS stuff like wall cling storage
Yeah, like with NES tas they can press left and right at the same time which is physically not possible on an actual controller.
Nothing like that here. So if you had infinite precision you COULD do this on a keyboard/mouse or controller etc…
A human could do any one of these inputs once with enough practice, but the likelihood of a human being able to string together multiple of these inputs in a single run is impossible.
@@Fogmeister it actually is possible to press both directions on an NES controller if you modify the dpad by filing away a little bump on the bottom. Repeated use of the controller eventually removes the bump on its own, so most speedruns allow people to just open their controllers and do it themselves.

Such a fun moment to see Blue say Jarlyk "semi-human level" immediately followed by a humanly impossible geo dodging arena.
I mean, I wouldn't call it humanly impossible. If one in every ten humans on the face of the entire earth were to learn how to speedrun the game and then try to do this ten-thousand times a piece, I'd imagine that it would be done successfully at least once.
by semi-human they mean a human could technically do this once, but wouldn't be able to do it again.
I meannnn. I use gathering swarm sometimes when I do Geo grinding. And it circles me for a bit that's it tho.

The funny side-effect of Gathering Swarm is that because it picks up the geo from the floor, it essentially prevents enemies from littering it all over and keeps the entire arena "usable." As long as, you know, you can dodge the geo ball flying at you.
It makes one element of the run moderately easier while making another element monstrously more difficult.
I like to imagine that when Hornet rescues the TAS Knight from the cast off shell, he’s still running like one one of those dogs that think they’re swimming

I cannot, with human words, describe the amount of immeasurable anxiety i have felt the entire run despite knowing that it is a robot, not a human, and that it won't fail.
Tas isn't a robot, it's a human playing in slow-motion with infinite attempts. You're right about the not failing though!
@@michaelmahoney5677 TAS is actually a robot by most definitions! My favorite definition of a non-science fiction robot is a type of automated machine that can execute specific tasks with little or no human intervention and with speed and precision, and as a TAS is essentially a coded run in which every frame is pre-determined which is then set to run (fun fact, the creator of this TAS actually made an anecdote about one of his TAS’s after being set to run while he wasn’t looking I guess had accidentally activated the Crystal Guardian fight and… died because it wasn’t coded to do that fight lol) it exactly fits that definition.

i think he just meant that the movement, while being physically possible for us, is just that precise and consistent that its inhuman
He's using techniques that a human could do, but he's doing them more infallibly and frequently than any human could do it. The TAS never misclicks.
It always bugged me that screen transitions cancelled the swarm, but if it enables this run to exist then it may have been worth it.

TAS is just insane bro this guy literally have beaten every single thing in the game and he plays perfect... he is the only person that can do those insane tricks, huge respects to him, i love this kind of videos. ;)
For those who don’t get the joke TAS is just a speedrun robot (as far as I know they’re only used for speedruns; don’t know what else they would be used for😐)

It isn't a robot, it's a person sitting there and using tools to create a playthrough..frame by frame, perfect inputs, etc. Then playing it back.

@@obsidianflight2758 TAS can also stand for Tool-Assisted Superplay in non-speedrun situations (like SM64 A-button challenge) but usually it is used in speedruns

I don't think I see TASes that often that treat them as an entertainment medium. They all focus on speed in the categories, which is fun to watch, but things like the PnP replays and hitting geo mounds just to give himself something to dodge for fun come off as rare.
I'd like to think it's a side effect of the community memeing so hard during the wait for Silksong that we've risen a new art form.
I think of all forms of speedrunning as a type of art. Typical speedrunning is primarily a performance art, especially with the ubiquity of streaming, as people gather to watch skilled performers demonstrate their skill while simultaneously entertaining the audience with the resulting performance and, often, accompanying commentary. TASing, then, is akin to highly produced studio output, using powerful tools to achieve results that live human performers could never do. Modern produced music is comprised of dozens of carefully arranged and manipulated layers of sound, often with multiple recordings of the same voices and instruments, with carefully 'comped' vocal parts to create the illusion of an almost perfect performance. If typical TASes are pop productions, then, I like to think of ridiculous things like this as akin to hyperpop, taking the extreme perfection and dialing it up to absurd levels, such that any illusion of it being a human performance is utterly shattered. I have watched dozens of TASes on as many games, and I find the most entertaining bursts of gameplay come from TASers that are willing to screw around during segments when they're forced to wait for even a few frames. Like a really zealous drum solo, or a fun flourishing yoyo trick. It didn't need to happen, and might be inefficient, but it makes for extremely entertaining viewing.
And consider the extra shilling effective. There's a dearth of TASes of these short bursts of showing off, most everything is full runs of a category, which depending on the game strip it down so far it stops being interesting to watch because of how much it abuses glitches to the demerit of the viewer. Things like end credit warp in Super Mario World or ACE in OoT. Those are fine to think about and marvel at how contorted the witchcraft is behind them, but they are very poor pieces of entertainment in the moment.
And I disagree about the stripping of the illusion of a human hand, there's an underlying perfectionistic insanity inherent to this that an AI would never try for if told to learn a game and perfect it. That special spark of human insanity that says "Because it's there."
Calling the swarm a jump rope actually made me hope that in Silksong, there’s an ability/tool that makes a string of silk orbit Hornet once or twice when the player jumps, it could be used to deal low damage and knock enemies back a little bit, kinda like Thorns of Agony but better.
Hearing jarlk's commentary on this is hilarious, go listen to it its so great.

I never thought I would use this phrase but here it is; this run is heartbreakingly clean.
I think that queen's garden arena might be a bit easier with gathering swarm since it helps clear the floor
I had the same thought at that moment, imagine if an actual person manages to use gathering swarm during a geo-less run as tech.

you could probably just avoid touching the ground without gathering swarm since theres no risk of picking up geo in the air
I'd love to see a "0 Geo left" run where you need to balance your Geo count perfectly on items you want throughout the run. It'd be such a fun category because of differing strats based on speed and what every individual is good at. Strats wise, where do you get an exact amount of geo from (because if you're one off, you need to grind for one more item to not have any geo left) and when do you grind for the geo to not have a massive block of grinding and then what's essentially a 0 Geo run for the rest of the game? What items would people plan on buying? That question is really fun to think abt for me because it could vary so massively depending on player's different strengths.
On the other hand, a normal speedrun where you get what you need and just avoid all other geo would probably be the fastest route, but it's still fun to think about since there's more room for variation.

I think the reason you cant dreamgate from beast den is so that if you get trapped the only way out is by breaking the floor/celing, just in case for some reason you hace dreamgate by that stage of the run

TAS is so incredibly awesome because they show off things that even if millions of humans put in billions of hours into something they would probably never achive it but TAS is still made by people and shows off how incredibly smart and knowledgeable people are. Also this TAS especially is such a beautiful and majestic dance of perfection and precision it's just so amazing. Also my head canon is that the Knight got gathering swarm with a one free charm coupon
