@Zachrydaman the lakers actually had already drafted Marc at the time of the trade. They drafted him in the summer of 2007, the trade was made mid season 07/08 and they traded his draft rights.
Dudes!; Fisher as point, Odom as forward, Bynum at the center, Bryant doing his thing as shooting guard and now Gasol as power forward?...I smell Championship in a very near future!!!!
And to explain to you about Gasol's game play and his role on the team, first of all Gasol is a PF by heart. He wasn't brought in to be a strong center for the Lakers, his size and GP should be a clear indication of this. He was brought in to take a load off of Kobe, to be the extra guy that can score at will, pass the ball, play a dominant post game, and kick it out to other Lakers when double teamed.
maybe we're in front of another lakers-celts rivality, it would be awesome watchin gasol-garnett, kobe-ray allen and odom-pierce, the showtime starts for another new years
The Lakers don't win jack squat without Gasol. LA was the 6th seed (and fading fast) at the time of the trade. Considering that Denver barely snuck in as the 8th seed with 50 wins, it is very likely that the Lakers don't make the playoffs if this deal doesn't go down. Kobe already wanted out before the start of the season, how do you think he would feel about missing the playoffs again in his prime? Kobe walks in '09, simple as that. Thank God for this. Thank God for Gasol.
The Clippers didn't turn Baron Davis into shit. He was in it for the money and basically zoned out for the rest of his career once he got to LA, because he knew he was good (financially) until retirement. Besides, it's not his fault that Elton Brand chose to walk a week after Davis signed in LA.
If Lakers produce a dynasty (3peat) in the next couple of seasons, the 2007-08 NBA executive of the year award should be switched from Danny Ainge to Mitch Kupchick...seriously
The Magic trade wasn't rigged. They traded Gail Goodrich to the New Orleans Jazz for the '79 pick. It wasn't the Lakers' fault the Jazz wound up with the worst record in the league three years later. Besides, the league has changed this year. Memphis, OKC, San Antonio and Indiana are all amongst the top seeds in their conferences and they're all small markets.
All you guys talking about trading lamar are way wrong. Lamar's natural position is SF he played that at Miami and that allowed him to do what he does best which is beat people off the dribble or back down smaller people trying to guard him. This acquisition more then anything will help Lamar, The only weakness I would see is teams dragging off lamar and not respecting his jumper defensivley which is questionable at best. Lamar will fill the Pippen role nicely when andrew gets back.
This is gonna work out great. They should not trade Odom, he is way bigger and more talented than Richard Jefferson. Phil will tinker with a few different line ups up front. You have Bynum and Turiaf, or bynum and gasol, or even gasol and turiaf.. with the way turiaf is playing all those will work. Laker as 2008 NBA Champs. GO Kobe!
ya ur right i found out gasol can actually play pf great trade by LA finally got rid of Kwame brown. he didnt play today but hopefully hell play on tuesday!!!
my team is the nuggets!! but i still respect when other teams are doin good...and ryte now the lakers are doing there thing...and ok lakers defence is kinda laggy...but theyre offence is explosive...example kobe's 46 points last nite
It's kind of a silly argument to say Gasol is 7'0 footer and he should be a center. So I guess by your logic, Dirk Nowitzki is a crappy player since he's 7'0, doesn't have a strong post game like Gasol, can shoot jumpers, and plays the PF position of his team...
@hvale2k5 Well said dude, although Memphis got cap space and a good NBA center, and he is only making 3.4M this year, I would no longer call it a steal. Marc averaged 14.6ppg and 9.3rpg last year
lol what are you smoking, he's a really good player. Definitely better than bynum ,kwame, mihm or laker's other nappy haired forward. His only weakness is his defensive ability but his size makes up a bit for it. He is one of the best scoring big men in the league. But i'm not a laker fan so i guess rockets are screwed.
Lets see...you could have gotten two semi allstar players for gasol. You could have got Cap space and 2 first rounders from a team that will actually have a pick in the top 20. or you could have just gotten an Allstar caliber player who cost less money. Instead....You do a secret deal with your managers old and favorite team the Flakers.......
You fail to mention that the Bulls first round pick you mentioned only had a 1.7% chance of getting that #1 pick. Any GM that would take that much consideration into a 1.7% chance of #1 pick would be stupid. And Noah at that age was questionable, ppl said he was an Anderson Vareajao. Memphis did that move with the lakers to clear cap space and get multiple picks, and if you wanna talk about (which later turned)..Memphis got Marc Gasol, ya the All Star Center.
@jgerundo24 For the 2013-14 season, the Lakers are already over the cap at 60M+. You must be referring to the 2014-15 season for which no Laker is currently signed. Sure, if you want to look ahead that far good for you, but this Laker run will end eventually
@rmathew2 by the time that marc will b a FA, vujacic's and walton's $5 mil each contracts will expire. Derek fisher might b retired, if bynum gets hurt again he'll get waived. barnes' contract should b over too and so will odom's and artest's too. with that being said, we got rookies with potentials and all, if artest doesnt come back and im sure that we'll b able to get a prince type of players. we'll have enough space for good role players to support pau and kobe
ya but two seven footers isnt good at the same time. i think bynum should start with ronny at power, and every 3 to 5 minutes they can alternate between bynum or gasol. LAKERS ARE #1!!!!!!!!
still think this was one of the most one sided trades ive ever seen. guess it didnt hurt that jerry west was the gm of the grizzlies at the time this trade was made. they got marc gasol which worked out in the long run. but how many seasons did memphis sacrifice and look how good the lakers instantly became. all to please the cry baby kobe bryant.
@Zeke4TV yeah bro this trade was not equal but the lakers would of never made this trade if the celtices would of never gotten the Big 3.. the lakers just wanted to match up with the celtices..
um no. Memphis has not improved its position. They're still bleeding money after using the cap space on Zach Randolph. They're still out of the playoffs. Heisley never managed to sell the team. With Pau Gasol healthy, Grizzlies were 5th or 6th seed in the West. Now, its hard to say Grizzlies will make the playoffs before they need to break up the team again. I don't see them leaping over the Thunder, Trailblazers, Spurs, or Nuggets in the next couple years to get into the playoffs.
@jgerundo24 Yeah and does that help the Lakers get under the cap, NO. Kobe is getting closer to 30M a season, the Lakers will never get under the cap with Kobe, Pau, and Ron Artest. Those 3 players alone put them over the cap, or close to it
What a stupid trade, the Lakers absolutely robbed them. The Bulls would have offered Noah, Thomas and their first round pick (which later turned in to Derrick Rose).
@jgerundo24 you clearly have no clue what you're talking about... Marc will be a FA after this season, while Walton has 3 more years under contract. Bynum has 2 more years left and you can't waive players contracts in the NBA, they are guaranteed (for now). Artest and Odom are under contract for 4 and 3 years respectively. this isn't a building team, the roster is essentially locked in for the next 3 or 4 years. and i dont even know why you brought up barnes, who signed for the minimum.
TOO BAD JERRY WEST ISNT THE GENERAL MANAGER OF THE ORLANDO MAGIC.. THE TRADE WOULD BE DWIGHT HOWARD FOR MATT BARNES AND STEVE BLAKE AND A SECOND ROUND PICK ... THEN HOWRD WOULD GET KOBE 3 MORE RINGS THEN KOBE WOULD BE THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME ..
Man I really hope there ain't gonna be a shit load of bandwagoners here. They are shit, we the real fans stuck with the team when they were losing when rudy was coaching, all the way to when kwame and his 7 turnovers, and now when this season when bynum has become a monster.
uhhh you forgot about bynum??? Dude when they lakers are healthy around march or so, there is no other team that can match up. I mean their small forward is freaken 6'10-6'11'' in Lamar Odom. Don't forget about the lakers bench who is in the top 5 in scoring. Celtics have no bench, and who do you expect to guard Kobe or Lamar? Ray Allen??? HAHAHA
This coming from the King of such arguing on this video, hahaha aight man, I can see you got nothing left to offer. Next time, choose your battles wisely, k? ;)
@module15 Yes, I was just responding to some idiot who thinks the Lakers could sign Marc Gasol as a free agebt, they probably could get him after he is signed from that Laker spy in the Grizz organization, Jerry West
wow did just say jarvis was very good.....LOL what a JOKE. this trade was Rigged. point blank. the Grizz could have got WAY more than the crap the flakers gave them. But Jerry West got it done for his old team.
@rmathew2 LMFAO i bet that if bynum gets hurt AGAIN, and cant come back, pau will call his lil bro and marc will come sign with the lakers... i would shit my pants if that happens in the future dude. Also pau should call rudy fernandez and we should dump vujacic for him... OMFG =O
yeah! no shaq followers please... aka. those who said "im a shaq fan, the only reason im a laker fan. thats why i became a miami fan" none of those bullshitters are welcome.
three straight Finals appearances after this. Marc Gasol was amazing, the Grizzlies are now a contender. good trade all around.
When I first saw this I was on the computer, looked at the tv and couldn't believe what I saw! I just kept sayin' "oh shit, oh shit!".
what a steel pau gasol was.
Great LA Lakers! On their way to another ring!
bynum, Lamar, and Gasol! what a front court!
wen bynum is back OMG there unstopable but first we need gasol 2 recover his left ankle GO LAKERS YEAHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE #1
@Zachrydaman the lakers actually had already drafted Marc at the time of the trade.
Marc Gasol has made this a great trade for Memphis.
He's a good share, along side Kobe, of the reason that the Laker's are in the N.B.A Final!
Not just Laker history, More like NBA History
And to explain to you about Gasol's game play and his role on the team, first of all Gasol is a PF by heart. He wasn't brought in to be a strong center for the Lakers, his size and GP should be a clear indication of this. maybe we're in front of another lakers-celts rivality, it would be awesome watchin gasol-garnett, kobe-ray allen and odom-pierce, the showtime starts for another new years
You are right my friend lol
Agreed 100%
steal of the decade
The Lakers don't win jack squat without Gasol. LA was the 6th seed (and fading fast) at the time of the trade. Thank God for this. Thank God for Gasol.
when bynum is healthy it should be gasol pf, bynum center, odom sf (which is his natural position), kobe sg, n fisher pg
MAN... why does tomorrows game have to be at 9AM
The Clippers didn't turn Baron Davis into shit. He was in it for the money and basically zoned out for the rest of his career once he got to LA, because he knew he was good (financially) until retirement. Besides, it's not his fault that Elton Brand chose to walk a week after Davis signed in LA.

Lamar will fill the Pippen role nicely when andrew gets back.
the day the Laker world changed!!
GO Kobe!
3 years of sh!t for the lakers, and now they're gonna win the west. the wait was worth it.
ya ur right i found out gasol can actually play pf great trade by LA finally got rid of Kwame brown. he didnt play today but hopefully hell play on tuesday!!!
ya nevermind that will be a killer line up when pau lays PF!!!!
my team is the nuggets!! but i still respect when other teams are doin good...and ryte now the lakers are doing there thing...and ok lakers defence is kinda laggy...but theyre offence is explosive...example kobe's 46 points last nite
they got so lucky
It's kind of a silly argument to say Gasol is 7'0 footer and he should be a center. So I guess by your logic, Dirk Nowitzki is a crappy player since he's 7'0, doesn't have a strong post game like Gasol, can shoot jumpers, and plays the PF position of his team...

@Zeke4TV so you a Miami and Celtic fan right?
Not really. The Grizzlies essentially got Darrel Arthur and Marc Gasol, who is averaging 16/12 this year. It's a steal, but not that big of a steal.
How was the KG trade rigged lmao, the T'Wolves got Al Jefferson, who averaged 23/11 last year, which is way better then what KG averages.
You fail to mention that the Bulls first round pick you mentioned only had a 1.7% chance of getting that #1 pick. he did get money

mmm idk about that, bynum wasnt that developed back then and the celtics were pretty damn good
@Zeke4TV yeah bro this trade was not equal but the lakers would of never made this trade if the celtices would of never gotten the Big 3.. the lakers just wanted to match up with the celtices..
Pistons won it also
um no. Memphis has not improved its position. They're still bleeding money after using the cap space on Zach Randolph. They're still out of the playoffs. Heisley never managed to sell the team.

you spelled ricky wrong its ricky not r1cky

bynum out for the entire season?? what happened to 8 weeks?
What a stupid trade, the Lakers absolutely robbed them. The Bulls would have offered Noah, Thomas and their first round pick (which later turned in to Derrick Rose).
This will be a steal.
Lakers trade Pau Gasol to memphis for kwame brown, Jarvaris Crittendon, Marc Gasol and 2 future 1st round draft pick.
But that was the Bull's choice, they probably would have picked someone else anyways. But yeah they got dooped. lol
are you aware how those two events happened?
KobeGasol 08
@jgerundo24 you clearly have no clue what you're talking about... Marc will be a FA after this season, while Walton has 3 more years under contract. LMFAO
Still trying to get the last comment in I see ;)
Man I really hope there ain't gonna be a shit load of bandwagoners here. They are shit, we the real fans stuck with the team when they were losing when rudy was coaching, all the way to when kwame and his 7 turnovers, and now when this season when bynum has become a monster.

@module15 Yes, I was just responding to some idiot who thinks the Lakers could sign Marc Gasol as a free agebt, they probably could get him after he is signed from that Laker spy in the Grizz organization, Jerry West
thank god they traded kwame. he didnt do shit. when he was a laker -__-. GO GASOL! AND GOO LAKERS GET THAT 4th RING!!!!!
wow did just say jarvis was very good.....LOL what a JOKE. this trade was Rigged. point blank. the Grizz could have got WAY more than the crap the flakers gave them. But Jerry West got it done for his old team.
KWAME BROWN LOL
lakers and kobe and gasol equals championship.
shaq who? kobe over shaq anyday all day.
OMFG =O

@jgerundo24 haha, and Lamar is signed for the next three years. Man, get your facts straight, I am done responding to your uninformed comments
Yeah but they got it in the draft so it was luck
