- Losing all my money attempting to restore a vintage 1992 1/10th RC buggy.
In this video, we take a look at a 1992 vintage RC buggy from Tamiya that I have purchased from France this week. We look at the implications of restoring this RC back to a shelf queen and the parts I already have to try and stop myself from going bankrupt on this project. This RC has never been rereleased but luckily some of the parts have been reissued on other kits.
Love the TC…. Df01’s iconic family
I think that will be a nice project, it´s an awesome looking buggy.
Woop! Thanks for the shoutout Gavin, and thank you for all work you do to give us such great content 🙂 I quite like the Terra Conqueror so I hope Tamiya rereleases it!
Rc planes still rule! . Rc cars are very good. Seriously respect to all in the RC community.
I think restoring vintage rc is very gratifying. Even though it can be annoying sometimes finding parts. But when it is all done it feels good.
I always did like those. Can't wait to see what you do with it. I need to purge again and recycle the kits I have just built. Can't keep them all.
I’ve restored a TC recently, lovely car and so unique. Will be watching this series closely.
Top force with manta ray chassis 👍
Wow, I haven't seen one of those in many, many years! What a great find, definitely something different. I can't wait to see it fully restored and on your shelves as part of your collection. Oh come on, we all know you won't sell it.... ;)
Hehehe so true
I really like your videos, thumbs up for this project! I also wanted to ask you if you ever going to make a video about Tamiyas DT-02 Chassis (because lately you did one on the DT-01). I know, it is a beginners chassis, but for example the Desert Gator or Sand Viper version are pretty well equipped. I would appreciate your honest opinion on it!
I just got back into the hobby with a M05ra Swift Sport and I bought a bundle of three cars around christmas (not expecting much), two I sold right off, but the other one is a Desert Gator as good as new. I have not driven it jet, but looking forward to, even though every scratch will hurt a bit.
Hi Paul, No reason why a DT-02 Chassis won't make it onto the show at some point.
When restoring rc the profit comes from what you can get for the leftover spares and what you had in your bit box at the start.
I recently sold a boomerang I bought for £89 then spent £50 on it, but then sold it for £120 when I realised I’d still need to layout another £50-70 to return it to 100%. It would only make £140 max.
Seen this for sale in France on the bay
I had that transmitter for my Mad Bull in the 90s. I remember the sticks were pretty sharp on the fingers 🤏🏼
It’s probably the nicest of the df-01 besides having the hop-ups. Easy enough to fix up and working on the df-01 is easy too.
Let me know if you need some parts !!!
I think I have almost everything for this one but thanks for the offer. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Ah man. I’d love to have one of those. The df01 range are my favourite. I’m missing this model and a Top Force at the moment.
I would guess we will see a reissue of the Top Force at some point again.
The DF01 is a great Chassis. Should give it a run pre resto 😎
Yep I think that’s a good idea
And yes I am the happy owner 😜 just bought another one
Haven't even started the video yet.
Me burnward
ok now I'll watch
I would be so happy if you built a 90s tamiya bush devil 😈
Not easy to find these days.
I’m playing along at home by buying my own R/C projects that I probably won’t sell, let alone profit from. It’s the same thing I’ve always done, except now I call it “fix and flip”. 😂
Now you are getting it ;)
You have mixed the rear lights up, the TA03F car should have the decals with the EU rear lights, i.e with orange indicators, the later car has JDM STi rear lights without the orange indicators.
Like theses videos and have you ever tried to take paint of a lexan body to keep the original? If so how do you do it.
I don’t really try it and it’s normal a total nightmare. I think if it’s spray painted it’s easier vs the old brush paint but it can still take hours with no guarantee you don’t damage the polycarbonate body.
i am glad i sold my manta ray with like 60e,those things break so eazy,
How do you make a small fortune restoring vintage RC cars? Start with a large one.
Like starting a rocket company 👍🏻
If there will be only 3 RC left , which ones would you choose?
That's the question!
XMAXX, MST CFX-W J45C or TRX4, Turbo Optima.
@@RCKickschannel TRX4 is a masterpiece, and turbo optima is the graal as well 😇
My next one will be the Turbo Optima after the Tamiya Top Force EVO that i like a lot, with my RC10 B4.1 Team Factory.
This passion is a drug.
So what are you keeping from the car you bought?
It’s gonna be called “Triggers Broom” made by Tamiya
Electronics, diffs and running gear. Hardware, bearings and motor, that’s about it.
Where did the car come from Gav?
Off eBay and from France
Hello love your channel can you help me please I’ve got the kyosho 480t motor and a tamiya esc can you tell me the a b c colours
Go'en Broke Gav?
For about a year, yes. That said, worth it to try and achieve a dream. :)!
@@RCKickschannel Your presentation, humour and general vibe are great mate, one of the best on YT. I can see the effort you put in, in the quality of your videos, I mostly watch you, Glenn over on Tamiya Legends and Talbot(who doesn't lol) with the odd bit of Tomley thrown in (he has some decent skill in the skate park!) Being a former resident of old Blighty I much prefer the style and substance of fellow poms.....It can't be easy trying to get by on the early days money from YT until the channel gets bigger. I for one have never been brave enough to try and start my own business (maybe the truth is I'm lazy 😂) so I admire your courage and passion for the hobby. I think starting the channel when you did was good timing with all the covid garbage going on, hobby shops over here on the prison island experienced their busiest times since the GFC (when the US dollar was so weak we were getting $1.20 per $AUD). Appreciate all your hard work and effort Gavin, and I hope your channel grows exponentially.
@@leemollison7508 Thanks Lee, thats most kind of you to say!
Holy shit. That is a lot of money for that car. Is it really worth it?
Not an easy car to find and the kit motor is desirable on its own. Tamiya bearings and a ball diff upgrade and adjusted turnbuckles are all option parts that came included back in the day.
Are you interested in selling the used wheels?
I was going to put them on my runner fake evo
I don’t know if this was a good move or not. You sold a new in box and then probably spent nearly the same amount sourcing and paying for random parts to rebuild a runner. I suppose it comes down to how much you sold the kit for? I think I would rather pay the difference and own and build the kit but then it is fun and satisfying finding parts you need so it’s a bit of both.
It only needs the body swapped- which they have, plus a few cheap easy to find DF01/ta01 parts which they also have. If you needed to chase down the decals and the evo wheels 2 years back it would definitely not be worth doing from financial side!
@@alangt4769 are you using any df01 re re parts Gav?
Problem is, when it’s done it’ll be too nice to get rid of !!!
Yep hehehe 100%
That green body with the orange wheels looks hideous. Talk about colour clash. Yuck! Box art will be a definite improvement. 👍
Yep I like the box art on this one
