Road trips in Crew 1 hit different. I enjoyed it so much, map and vibe and weather... For some reason its not that good in Crew 2 / Motorfest. Also I miss snow in Salt Lake city and mountains. My favorite route.
Man those gloomy slippery twisty nountain roads were absolutely epic. Also the rain / wet roads. Changing weather affected grip. It was very subtle in rain but It was there. I made time attack runs mainly and the times clearly showed it. About The Crew vs all the rest I'm completely with you in that. The Crew 2 was an overall much better game with better framework and stability - still the handling physics were sort of dumbified (great with a controller but with a wheel cars feel weightless) and GFX were artificially flashy in a way. The Crew Motorfest is a downsized game compared to the previous ones where the main selling point was the massive roamable map. So what was absolutely captivating in The Crew 1 was a better captured atmosphere. I wondered many times that man, the countryside looks exactly the same when the Sun goes down, all the lights and colours. Or in this mountain region, you could almost taste the cold humidity blurring the sight before the snow started to fall. The very first game was more natural somehow. It is also true for the physical modelling. Even if they were far from the likes of Asetto Corsa, still In sim mode the cars started to behave more realistic. You could feel the mass, the difference between cars. The Crew 2 made cars weightless and free of physics. It supports arcade style and controller / keyboard better but with a wheel it just became dumb, boring to drive. I don't know, maybe it's not a general phenomenon, maybe it's just my wheel. But I feel that regardless. It became good again in Crew Motorfest, these vehicles are alive on the road - but the game has a seriously shrinked area and I could not find user-defined routes. I played the first two games only for that. Choosing a nice route and making time attacks. That was my game inside the game. So the Crew Motorfest by that mean makes not much sense to me despite that the cars are nice to drive again. So all in all, The Crew was not a perfect game but a better drive and overall experience so sadly even the much better overall game The Crew 2 or the shrinked Crew Motorfest were steps back at the end of the day, making this now-brain-dead first game the pinnacle of the series.
