Lol love this comment xD but he was an actual professor/teacher where umbridge was just plopped there by the minister of magic lol so of coarse he’d be better than her lol I mean whose worse tho Stalin or umbridge? 😂🧐
@G E T R E K T 905 well the first in hp was turned to ash, second obliviated and never left St mungos, third nearly ate snape and three children(died 4 years later) fourth was a death eater who got caught, fifth was dragged off into the forest by centaurs and after a couple years sent to Azkaban, sixth died and lastly the carrows presumably got locked up after the battle. So that’s 3 in Azkaban, 2 deaths and a permanent hospitalisation. Lupin got lucky, and umbridge but she got her comeuppance
@G E T R E K T 905 Lupin was forced to resign. The curse would presumably force each teacher into a situation where they have no choice but to vacate the position. So unless they get massively lucky (a better position elsewhere, getting married, etc), something that could force them out would have to be pretty devastating. And I doubt a curse would give someone a happy ending. So, outside of that, the next best case scenario is that the person resigns due to misconduct or shame. Any other outcome is likely to involve imprisonment, debilitation or death.
@G E T R E K T 905 It's more than just the parents being angry. The bigotry against werewolves is extreme in the wizarding world. He could not have stayed in that post. If he had tried to stay, the escalation against him would have been rapid and undefendable. He was "forced" by circumstances, not (yet) by a particular person.
Dumbledore putting Voldemort in the position that he was denied and then cursed just to screw him over with his own curse while dangling the stone in front of him without him being able to get it has got to be the most beautifully chaotic trolling he’s ever done
Of course, really competent trolling would involve protecting the Stone with some serious badass enchantments rather than just puzzles and tasks that three barely educated schoolchildren could solve. That would be like Muggles protecting a secret message with a really difficult CAPTCHA rather than military-grade encryption.
@@lightyagami1752 yeah, although the puzzles were probably supposed to be easily solvable, specifically to test Harry and the group's friendship. Pretty insane to risk the stone on that one ngl..
He definitely knew he was after the stone, whether he knew about Voldemort who knows but I wouldn’t be surprised if he knew the whole thing he is dumbledore after all lol
why did Dumbledore use first year trap against THE MOST FEARED DARK LORD i mean i think volidy was drain his host of his magic but come on he endangered a lot of studens and he gambled all on one 11 year old kid
@@legendarycuber6944 Yeah Dumbledore was a weirdo, Harry kind of mentions this to Ron and Hermione at the end of the first book, I think that ties into Dumbledore's sometimes selfish nature for "The greater good" which still lingers in him, meaning he will still risk people's lives if he thinks it's right, since it's established that he thinks Harry will one day have to die, unless he knows Voldemort couldn't kill him due to the horcrux, hard to tell
u forgot to mention that Dumbledore told Snape to keep a very keen eye on Quirrell throughout Harry's first year. he definitely knew something was different with Quirrell.
I think that Dumbledore knew Quirrell was working for Voldemort, but I don’t think he knew Voldemort was possessing him. I can’t imagine Dumbledore letting Voldemort back in to Hogwarts, where all the students lives would be at risk.
Let's just take a moment to remember how Fred & George made the snowballs hit Quirrel in the back of his head aka to Voldys face 😆 Ps. Sorry for the bad english
Dumbledore never told anyone his plans - so even if he was completely wrong, and had to rapidly change his entire scheme and rush to the defense of some innocent kids who got in way over their heads because of him - no one would know, and everyone would think it was all calculated and deliberate. (aka. what happened in The Order of the Phoenix.)
@@AltarParssoy Dumbledore distanced himself from Harry and deliberately kept him in the dark, but that only made Harry vulnerable to Voldemort's manipulation, which eventually led Harry to the Ministry of Magic, and indirectly caused Sirius' death.
*I would have mentioned the part in The Deathly Hallows when Harry was reviewing Snape's memories in the pensieve, and Dumbledore mentioned, "Keep an eye on Quirrell, won't you?"... That one quote was clear evidence that Dumbledore knew about Quirrell...*
But, using this, we only know that Dumbledore was aware of Quirrell planning something evil like stealing the Stone. But it‘s still not explicitly stated that Dumbledore was aware of Voldemort possessing Quirrell, though it‘s very likely, for sure.
Great video! I was wondering, why did Harry, an extremely good Seeker, never consider becoming a professional quidditch player? Never in the books, nor films has he even once entertained the thought of taking quidditch even more seriously. I think it's really odd. Moody asked Harry what he's good at, to which he clearly replied "the only thing I'm good at is quidditch" . He wasn't just an above average flier either - he got compliments from pretty much every single person to see him fly, including the one and only Viktor Krum. So why has he never thought of becoming a real quidditch player? Oliver Wood, who perhaps wasn't even as gifted as Harry, signed for a professional team after graduating from Hogwarts. Is it perhaps harder to sign for a team than it seems? Do you need to be trained from a young age to even stand a chance against pro quidditch players? How much do quidditch players even make? What does the life of a quidditch player look like? I really wonder what the quidditch scene is like
He fantasized about it after the quidditch world cup, but when the careers advice session happened in Book 5 he was mainly focused on defeating Voldermort, and the books say that Harry thought it was appropriate for him to become an Auror.
But, hey, after the Fantastic Beasts movies maybe they’ll do Quidditch Through The Ages films, and you’ll get your answers to the life of a Pro Quidditch Player!
I've always thought he should have become the DADA teacher. It would bring things full circle in parallels to Voldemort. Harry would have achieved something Voldemort was denied because Harry sought to do it to help others whereas Voldemort only wanted it to further his own power.
@@AustynSN He would regularly visit to do special DADA lectures, but otherwise he was head of the department magical law inforcement, after a short period in the auror office.
I came to the realization in the later books, that Dumbledore didn't know half as much as he pretended to. Oh he was very intelligent, and had ways of keeping himself informed of the goings on of Hogwarts and the wizarding world at large - but first and foremost he was particularly skilled in keeping what he knew to himself, and likewise conceal his own ignorance on matters where he was not fully informed. He was also very good at thinking on his feet and could often adapt his plans even if circumstances changed or new information came to light, usually without telling anyone his plans or the change, so it would seem like the adaptation was part of the original scheme.
Dumbledore was the living embodiment of “act broke when you’re rich and act rich when you’re broke” he was always one step behind Voldemort whilst somehow maintaining a step ahead. He knew the assignment and played his part brilliantly. He knew Harry was a horcrux and that he wasn’t ever really going to die in the forest. Just a part of him. The part that was Voldemort. He was a genius and their will probably never be another wizard nearly as brilliant as he was.
Dumbledore didn't know Harry was a Horocrux or what kept Voldemort going until revealed by Slughorn. His suspicions didn't even start until 2nd year when they had Tom Riddle's Diary. Initially Dumbledore was banking on Harry being protected by Lily's love-sacrifice spell, and the likelihood that Voldy was already weakened.
@@bahamute6198 That issue is confused a bit for people that have only seen the movies though. I think in the first movie Dumbledore flat out says to Harry after he gets the Stone that Lilys' sacrifice saved him, but the mark on his head is "something else" which alludes to him at least suspecting Harry is an accidental Horcrux. Dumbledore obviously already knows what a horcrux is, just not that Voldy definitely made some, let alone an accidental one in Harry (Im sure he suspected the most evil and power-hungry wizard to exist tried though). But I would say yea, by CoS he would have known though. The parsel tongue, headaches when near Voldy etc. Dumbledore can solve 1+1 easily enough. I don't think its too far fetched to assume he always at least suspected though. This is a man the Wizarding World believes to be the greatest living wizard, with a wealth of knowledge and experience at his fingertips, after all.
@@TheSpencer033 in the first movie Dumbledore says: "do you know why Prof. Quirrel wasn't able to touch you? it was because of your mother...her sacrifice left a mark..." (Harry lifts his hair to reveal his scar)...Dumbledore says the scar his mother left is not one that can be seen. He says it was her love. I believe movie Dumbledore was basically explaining residual magic to Harry in a way he would understand. He was mostly just being metaphorical. Dumbledore, was smart and probably assumed Voldemort had some fail safe. He just wasn't sure about the mechanism that prevented his death. There was more than one dark magic route to prevent complete death and/or be resurrected. Getting the diary thr movie shows Dumbledore knew it was different powerful magic, but still wasn't sure what kind until Slughorn.
I think Dumbledore did know and had Quirrell teach defense against the dark arts in the hopes that Quirrell would find a way to resist and expel Voldemort before making it to the stone and fighting Harry.
If Dumbledore knew the whole time, that makes him quite stupid and irresponsible. Just as it would if he knew Lockhart was utterly incompetent the whole time. However, the pool of wizards available and willing to teach DADA was very limited, so he didn't have much of a choice. But still, hiring the dark lord himself, or someone from whom the students could learn nothing useful would still have been a very bad decision. Better to teach the class himself, or let Snape teach it, or not have a DADA teacher at all and save the money. Maybe spend it on some good DADA textbooks so the students could at least get some useful independent study. Maybe get the best 6th & 7th year DADA students to teach the 1st & 2nd year students. Any of these possibilities would have been better than hiring Voldy himself into the school, or Lockhart. The only conclusion one can draw is that either Dumbledore didn't actually know when he hired him, or Dumbledore is just an idiot.
@@PhilBagels The DADA post was cursed by Voldemort. With Quirrell teaching it, Voldemort would also be under that post's curse. He foiled his own plan. Even if Dumbledore didn't know about Voldemort, he suspected something was a little off about Quirrell and he may be after the stone. So no... not an idiot. Smart play, to bring him on as DADA teacher, whether or not he actually knew.
@@ouroboros5793 So you're saying Dumbledore was relying on Voldy''s curse to defeat Voldy? That's truly idiotic. If you think someone is trying to steal something, you don't hire them into a position where they're close to the thing they want to steal. Unless you're an idiot. I don't think Dubledore is an idiot, therefore the only logical conclusion is that he didn't know Quirrell was posessed by Voldy, and he didn't know he wanted to steal the stone.
@@PhilBagels No, not relying on it. Obviously he knew that much; Voldemort technically being on the post was a bonus. I assume, in Voldemort's mind, he would exempt Quirrell from the curse/jinx whatever, but that's not how it worked out. Like I said, Dumbledore suspected Quirrell of wanting the stone, surely. So he put him on DADA just in case. Turns out, Voldemort being attached was a plus, because it foiled him anyway. Sure, you want Dumbledore to be an idiot, for some reason. So you're going to find fault no matter what.
@@ouroboros5793 I don't want Dumbledore to be an idiot. That's what you're describing him as. Would you hire a housekeeper that you suspected wanted to steal your TV? If so, you'd be an idiot. If you were the principal/headmaster of a school, would you hire someone to teach children that was a follower of Hitler, or Osama Bin Laden? If so, you'd be an idiot. Again: I do NOT think Dumbledore is an idiot. Therefore, he must not have known about Quirrell.
Okay but were forgetting the funniest thing about Quirrell having Voldemort on the back of his head... Fred and George bewitched several snowballs to follow Professor Quirrell around and hit him in the back of the head. Basically, they were throwing snowballs in Voldemort's face! I like to think Dumbledore knew about Voldemort and watched him get hit and be unable to do anything!
Original scene : Dumbledore : “Lilly! After all this time?!” Snape : “Always” My scene : Me : “A Harry Potter video! After all this time” RUclips : “Always”
I think dumbledore knew about the jinx on dada (dark arts) that’s why he assigned quirrel and umbridge to the job and made lupin leave before the end of the year so then nothing bad happened to him.
Dumbledore rejected Tom Riddle when he asked for the job. Since that moment nobody was dada teacher for longer than a year. It was clear to Dumbledore that Voldemort had jinxed the job and others knew something was wrong with the job too. That is why so few people assigned for the job. But it is not true that Dumbledore fired Lupin. Lupin decided to quit the job by himself as Snape told everyone he was a werewolf. Besides Dumbledore did not want to give the job to Umbridge. The minister of magic Cornelius Fudge assigned Umbridge so he could get more influence at Hogwarts, the school where Dumbledore (in his eyes his enemy) was the headmaster.
I don't think Dumbledore had many options for the Defense against DA job. Just a few months after the first book he gives the job to Lockhart. With Hagrid at that time saying not many are will to apply. They never really go into how publicized the death was or else Harry might have been put on trail for that too.
Yeah, this is what I've been saying for a long time. There just aren't that many wizards to choose from who are willing and available to teach DADA at Hogwarts. So Dumbledore has to take what he can get. If he knew that Quirrell was Voldy all along, and knew that Lockhart was a fraud all along, that makes Dumbledore extremely stupid and irresponsible. Likewise if he knew Moody was Crouch Jr. all along. (Obviously, the Ministry forced Umbridge on him, so that's not his fault.) It would seem to me very unethical for Dumbledore to use legilimency on every teacher he hires without their knowledge and consent.
@@PhilBagels Lockhart was the only applicant for the job at that year, maybe aside from Snape, but Dumbledore at this point didn't want him to teach DADA. As for him knowing Voldy is possessing Quirrell - it's not stupid. He let Voldy think he successfully infiltrated Hogwarts, so by extension he knew Voldy would likely stay at Hogwarts for a pretty long time - allowing him to plan out a trap. And of course, since Voldy is arrogant, he'd drop his guard once he believed, that he managed to deceive the one wizard he feared - letting Dumbledore gather evidence. As for irresponsibility - well, from a principal's POV, I guess so. But Dumbledore isn't really a standard good guy. He looks at the bigger picture, if saving the wizarding world means the death of a few student, he'll let them die, rather than try to save everyone, when it's clearly impossible or at least improbable.
@@MrKoraboras Ah yes. Inviting a murderer into the school, but pretending you don't know he's a murderer in order to trap him. Good plan! Apparently, there was no Ministry of Magic and no competent Aurors in the wizarding world during Harry's first year. There are no detection spells at all, and no way to get Quirrell to take off the turban to check.
@@PhilBagels You missed the bit, where the murderer is incorporeal, can hop from bodies or escape at high speed without caring about physical boundaries, is an expert at using mind-manipulation type magic and is immensely difficult to track thanks to his powers, even in diminished form. As for the Aurors bit - again, Voldemort is stated to be one of the best users of mind magic IN THE WORLD, as well as one of the most powerful wizards in general. One Auror did find him in his forest hiding spot, guess what happened? He mind-raped her to the point, where he couldn't possess her afterwards, then killed her. He did that without a body or wand, just as a spirit. You saying, that Aurors are incompetent cuz they can't find Voldie is like saying an experienced martial artist is untalented, because they can't beat an undefeated MMA world champion. Also why the hell would Aurors even show up at Hogwarts? Or investigate one of thousands quirky wizards, like Quirell? The Ministry by that point pronounced Voldie dead and there was literally no proof, that'd warrant Quirrel's investigation. And yes, detection spells exist, guess what? Anti-detection spells exist too. Protective charms and shit. And why you even talking about the turban? Most people in the story wouldn't even know what a horcrux is, beyond maybe having read, that it's vile magic, much less know the way horcruxed wizards possess others, or what signs to watch out for. It's rare for anyone to succeed in creation of one and there's only one in-universe book that even details the process, it's a major taboo subject even compared to other dark arts.
I like to think that Dumbledore knew all along about quirell and the job being cursed and time turners and the different timeline scenarios that could occur. He therefore used his knowledge of everything he knew and used it to his advantage. He probably even knew that there was a chance Sirius was innocent seeing as he knew him and his friends when they went to school by studying their character. He knew the prophecy happened because Voldemort acted on it. And so he let Voldemort to continue to act on it in the first movie the second and so on. He may have known all along about the wands sharing the same core Voldemort and Harry possessed. The graveyard scene was a risk had it not been for Harry’s courage alone and the cup to take him back to hogwarts. I like to think Dumbledore knew everything and had to risk some dangerous situations in order for Tom to be defeated.
@@inmate-yj3ic not purposefully, as mentionned, big V possessed him and forced himself into Quirell's body. Quirell was done the second he met Voldemort. Still, it was truly dumb from him to think he could capture the dark lord by himself.
you know that Dumbledore was the only wizard that Voldemort truly feared and he was always stepped ahead of everybody and he was not an idiot so yeah I think he knew something just didn't have the right proof until later thankfully it all worked itself out with the help from the boy who lived.
To me it seems that it was Dumbledore's plan all along to have Harry face Voldemort. The tasks the trio had to face were tailored for them (the one with the brooms and keys for harry, the one with the chess for ron and the puzzle for Hermione). I think it was part of Dumbledore "training" Harry in a "safe" environment for facing Voldemort, which he knew Harry will have to do in the end. This of course implies he knew that Quirell was possessed by Voldemort.
The movie only shows the three challenges to make it quicker and give each character of the trio a moment to shine. In the books there were several other challenges based on the teacher's skillset that involved magic well beyond the 1st years. I imagine Quirrel just bewitched, immobilized or flew through the challenges to get to the end.
I think Dumbledore certainly employed wizards who might have a lead on Voldemort and could use Legilimens on them. Quirrel was probably suspected as a Horcrux. Lockhart probably truly believed he had performed the kind of feats at some level. He was testing them and using them more as a resource of unique perspective than as a real defense teacher because he didn't really need one. (He knew Harry would be better than any of them)
Dumbledore totally knew, otherwise he would just be incredibly neglectful as a Headmaster. It's the "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer" idea. He had Quirrel under his roof, so he could see what he was up to, spy on him, discover something through Harry and other professors. Speaking of neglect though, he DID use Harry as bait...
I would say that Dumbledore knew that something suspicious was going on with Quirrell (such as Quirrell's remarkable shift to now being practical at Defensive Magic), which is why Dumbledore has Snape "keep an eye on Quirrell." Yet, Dumbledore would not have known the full extent of the Dark Lord inhabiting Quirrell's body, and would never have put any of the students at risk if fully knowing the Dark Lord was within the walls of Hogwarts.
I feel like the Halloween troll would have been the clincher, at least. Quirrell acted terrified of it, but look at his contribution to the protection of the Stone: a troll. So he would have displayed his talent for troll handling at some point, while being terrified into supposed unconsciousness at Halloween. IDK maybe I am reading too much into it, but the first time I read the book and came upon the page describing the unconscious troll, I immediately figured Quirrell was the one trying for the Stone.
It was particularly obvious Dumbledore knew he did hide the Stone in a way that only Light Wizards could comprehend getting, and he gave Quirrel the job most likely to get rid of him.
It sounds a bit ironic. If dumbledore indeed knew quirrel's little secret all along, he would've forced voldemort to suffer from his own curse (the position of DADA teacher) without him being able to do anything about it.
I agree that Dumbledore must have concluded that Voldermont possessing Quirell made him in a sense the DADA teacher too. Dumbledore hoped that by appointing a possessed Quirell to the DADA post would allow Voldermont to succumb to the jinx he placed on the course leading to his capture and demise. This would in turn break the curse on DADA and finally he could hire a competent teacher for the students.
My only problem with this theory is Dumbledore knowingly endangered each and every of his students by letting Quirrel, who he was suspicious of, teach students. He put a possibly untrustworthy man in a position of authority (as a teacher)
I have come to think that Dumbledore is willing to sacrifice in order to succed. The goal was always for Harry to defeat Voldemort, even if that meant Harry's or others deaths I think he always chose the greater good.
@@sircabooci4506 - I can accept Dumbledore being willing to sacrifice.. We have seen it over abd over. But I don't think it always was for the greater good. He was a greyer character, that way..
Ir Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Dumbledore showed a memory to Harry in which Tom Riddle asks for a job as a Professor of Defence against Dark arts in order to hide horcrux but Dumbledore denied it and said to Harry that after that year he had to appoint a new Profession for the post every year.
I don´t know if Dumbledore knew but Voldemort inside Quirell´s head was after the unsuccesful trial to rob the Gringots. Before he just worked with Voldemort, but when Harry had met him before, he had been introduced as a new teacher already. That´s why Harry could shake his hand in the books. And Quirell said that because the attempt was wrong, Voldemort punished him and since that he watched him more closely - literaly.
I think that Dumbledore was suspecting him since his arrival back from Hogwarts and gave him the DADA post just to find out the Truth at least. And yes your point for Legilmency is also true because he might have read Quirrell's mind easily earlier, but now it was not happening. This was the point where he started suspecting him and sent Snape after him🤔👍
I could guess that dumbledore was watching harry in the ceremony and he must have seen him when his scar burnt harry while he was watching quirrell and snape... that must have given him a lot of reasons to be sure about voldermont
I believe that Dumbledore knew SOMETHING was up with Quirrel since his Albania trip, and that he was likely working with Voldemort now, but didn't know that Quirrel was literally possessed by him. I think Dumbledore placed a bit too much stock in his reputation as being the one man Voldemort feared to suspect that a weakened Tom Riddle would dare return to the castle. If he noticed Quirrels new skill at Occlumency, I suspect there are numerous enchanted objects that could provide similar protection against mental intrusion and it would not be out of character for a somewhat paranoid Defense teacher to have one or more such items on his person at all times after all. I also think that Dumbledore's one weakness was that he always saw the best in people and endeavored to give everyone as many chances as he possibly could, whether or not they necessarily deserved them.
Was always funny to me that they locked up the stone, to make sure nobody could get to it. But then gave people ways to defeat each challenge… like “oh man, how do we get that flying key?!” “Oh, look here, a few brooms! How convenient!” 🤣
I have my own theories about Dumbledore going to extraordinary lengths to defeat Voldemort so I’m not entirely closed to the possibility that he might let Voldemort into the school attached to Quirrel but if he did know of the possession there’s no way he would ever leave the castle and thus lose his ability to keep close tabs in Voldemort while he’s wandering about the castle!
Dumbledore knew. I think allowed Harry to face Voldemort to test his bravery and how much he could handle as knew that Harry was eventually going to have to defeat Voldemort (the prophecy). Dumbledore also knew that Quirell would never be able to get the stone thanks to the mirror. He could have legit left the mirror in Quirells office and he never would have got it. All the things protecting the stone were put into place to test Harry, Ron and Hermione's abilities.
Interesting theory. I never considered the idea that dumbledore would use the stone as bate to catch Voldemort. I always thought Flamel was already more or less ready to get rid of the stone, and that keeping it at hogwarts was a way for him and his wife to warm up to the idea of no longer having it. But then using it to track Voldemort down was a pretty risky move on dumbledore apart.
I always wondered why Voldemort smells like garlic. I know the students guessed that Quirrell had a fear of vampires, and had stuffed his turban full of garlic to stave them off, but I actually think that Voldemort smelled like garlic as an in-joke on Rowling's ex, who was Spanish, and Mediterranean cooking uses a lot of garlic. I know that she made fun of another old acquaintance she disliked when she created Gilderoy Lockhart, so, being a female, she took a poke at her ex and made Voldemort smell like garlic. But that's just a pet theory of mine. I may be totally wrong. (I know my Spanish father-in-law and my husband are fond of garlic. Not as fond as I am, being part Italian, but still...) Mmmmmm....garlic.....garlic on pizza....tapas....No, no, forget the garlic. I might have to apply at Hogwarts as a DADA teacher, since I need a job and I am good at hexes.
Roasted garlic with butter, pepper and herbs. Garlic marinated in vinegar with sugar, olive oil and spices. With meat or salad, with cheese or bread URRGHHH YESS GARLIC IS THE KING OF ALL VEGETABLES
The deluminator was a spy. It started working for Ron when somebody said his name out loud it must of worked the same for Dumbledore that's how he knew who was talking about him and where they were
It always sort of made sense that Quirrel was seemingly incompetent in teaching the Defense Against the Dark Arts class, since Voldemort had been gone for a generation and there were few people actually experienced in using the dark arts. The few that were left were older like Dumbledore who had other responsibilities for the school.
This totally sounds like Dumbledore actually. BUT knowingly letting a possession of Voldemort into Hogwarts doesn’t seem like Dumbledore to be honest. But it makes total sense how he basically manipulated Harry and Professor Quirrell into the destruction of the Stone. Also, it makes complete sense that Dumbledore put the Mirror in front of Harry, which just proves Snape’s point that BASICALLY Dumbledore was just an asshole.
I think Dumbledore wanted it all to play out the way it did because he knew all along that Harry was a haurcrax so if he died at the hands of Quirrel, it wouldn't of mattered as Harry would've unintentionally killed a haurcrax and simultaneously made himself stronger so it really was a win win for Dumbledore
Either: A) He knew, and was trapping Quirrel/Voldemort in a castle with a child literally charmed against him or B) He had no idea, and figured a few years teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts to the kids would be all he needed to perfect his practice
You never mentioned a big hint that Dumbledore Suspected Quirrel. If you read book seven. During Snapes memories. Dumbledore tasks Snape to keep an eye on Quirrel.
The Mirror of Erised was a good test for Harry. It proved he wanted neither power nor glory. I think THIS gave Dumbledore the idea of hiding the stone the way he did. Quirrell was a timid, nervous teacher leaving....and by all appearances, an even more timid, nervous teacher returning...which was written off by his vampire and hag interactions. Dumbledore, however, still knew of the connection between Quirrell's trip and Voldemort's supposed location, and that made him suspect. Hence, Snape appears to be a bully to Quirrell, per Dumbledore's orders, to discover Voldemort's plans, location, etc. And, Quirrell vs Harry seems like a reasonable risk. A way to test Harry safely. If Dumbledore knew Quirrell was POSSESSED after the failed Gringotts theft, he would have undoubtedly took a more personal and direct approach.
Dumbledore finds out Harry visits the mirror a lot. In order to have found out he must have either stalked harry, let someone stalk him OR he went there a lot himself to look at it. And now that we know what he actually sees in there I think he spoke from experience when he said you can get obsessed with the mirror. I think it was moved after that not only for harry's safety but also for dumbledore himself.
I think Dumbledore knew exactly who Quirrell was hiding on the back of his head the whole time, knew Harry would be attending Hogwarts for his 1st year, knew about the prophecy (and so knew Harry would be the only 1 who would be able to end Voldemort). I think Dumbledore planned everything (literally everything from the 1st book to the last), giving Harry nudges every now and then to keep him on track. He tested Harry and co to make sure they were always on track to fulfil his destiny. He helped when he saw Harry could use it, gifted him, or ensuring he get most/all of the magical artefacts Harry ended up with and made sure that he and his group were (oh so conveniently) prepared for every challenge they faced. Also, Dumbledore is BLATENTLY aware of the curse of the DADA teacher only ever lasting for 1 year! I get really confused when people ask about whether he know about that or not... Like, the students know about it and Dumbledore was teacher at the school for years and then became headmaster. This is exactly why he put a terrible teacher in that position every time. Quirrell, Lockhart and Umbridge were all just terrible. Moody was a great auror but, honestly, would have made a terrible teacher. Lupin, however was a great teacher, but (for obvious reasons) has never kept a job for more than a few months anyway.
I think that dumbledore knew that professor quirrel was possessed by Voldemort so he used professor Snape to lure Harry to where the philosopher's stone was so that Harry could kill quirrel and potentially kill Voldemort.
I think Harry actually ruined Dumbledore's plan. I mean, had harry not shown up, Qurrell and Voldemort would have just been stuck in that chamber until Dumbledore when down to collect him.
I was just thinking about this last night before I went to sleep. I thought, "if Quirrel had Voldemort on the back of his head, how did Dumbledore not know for an entire year?". Also, we don't get nearly enough information on Quirrel as we do the rest of the DATDA professors in the series.
Percy did mention in the 1st movie when Harry asked who the man next to Quirrel was that Snape was after Quirrell's job for years tho. So just saying that it was NOT Quirrill's 1st year as the dark arts teacher. It seemed worth mentioning.
Did Dumbledore know it from the start, or was it because Snape distrusted Quirrell and told Dumbledore about his suspicions? Of course, after the incident during the Quidditch match, not only did Snape referee all Quidditch matches for the rest of the year, according to Quirrell Snape could have spared himself the trouble as Dumbledore was in the audience all the time after that, and it would be foolish to try something right under Dumbledore's nose. I guess Dumbledore was at least aware from that moment. Now a nice detail, which was omitted in the movies, but it was mentioned in the books that Quirrel was one of the teachers protecting the philosopher's stone and he even placed one of the traps. Trap #1: Fluffy (from Hagrid), Trap #2: Devi's Snare (from Sprout), Trap #3: The key with the broken wing (from Flitwick), Trap #4: The magic chessboard (from McGonagall), Trap #5: A troll (from Quirrell), Trap #6: A potion ridden (from Snape), Trap #7: The mirror of Erisid (from Dumbledore). Now it should be noted that Harry had no trouble with the troll, as it already knocked out when Harry and Hermione arrived (Ron stayed behind at the chessboard as he got injured in the novels too), leaving the two nothing but an unbearable stench to deal with. In the novel it's Hermione who solves the potion riddle set up by Snape, a fact which was also omitted in the movies. Question is, if Dumbledore knew all along Quirrell was possessed by Voldemort, why did he allow Quirrel into the secret of the stone? After all, Quirrell must have known how important the stone was in order to lend Dumbledore a troll to guard it. That being said it would also be pretty stupid to use a troll to distract people during Halloween, in order to sneak past Fluffy, so we got a little plot hole there. After all, Dumbledore should have known Quirrell had a special gift as far as trolls are concerned, so somebody with a gift like that running in a panic even fainting because of a troll... Of course the students would buy it (knowing Quirrell for nothing but a first rate wimp) but none of the teaching staff (at least not the ones protecting the stone) would (so of course Snape would head him off). As a mole working for Voldemort he actually gave himself away on a silver platter with that action.... Ravenclaws are supposed to smart, right?
Here is what I think. Based on J.K.'s last few movie scripts and books I am fairly certain that she wasn't thinking this hard about the harry potter books.
Know is a very strong word especially in the “to know for sure” sense. My guess is dumbledore strongly suspected but didn’t act without proof instead keeping one good eye on him and setting traps and making plans just in case.
I know you probably don't read comments on old videos, but how about one saying where and how Quirrell found Voldemort? I'll wait for a new video and ask again:D I'd love to see a theory on that:p
He was unaware of the possession. Snape had to convince Voldemort that he only saw Quirrel the weakling trying to get the stone for selfish reasons. Dumbledore knew Snape would eventually have to double agent again because he was convinced of Voldemorts resurrection. He would have warned Snape to watch but not confront Quirrel in order to make it easier for Snape to double agent later and gain Voldemorts trust, regardless if it was something that Snape could do (and did) he’s too calculated to risk it.
Here's the REAL reason dumbledore knew it was voldemort: "a funny smell hung around the turban, and the Weasley twins insisted that it was stuffed full of garlic" Voldemort is known to have garlic breath
Unfortunately, Joanne got it wrong. Quirrel taught DADA his whole career. It wasn't until after his death that moldy no nose cursed the job. She didn't know because she was ejected from the wizarding world before she could get all the information for breaking the statute of secrecy.

I always assumed that Dumbledore never wanted to risk losing Snape because the position was cursed
This is true even movie flame said so. Voldemort cursed/jinxed the position after being turned down for it, supposedly out of jealousy
Ye that was proven!

@@spaggymerbles I know. I just think Harry as DADA instructor would have been a thematically better ending
Dumbledore thought both Harry and Voldemort's soul inside Harry would die. He did not know Harry was going to survive.

@@PhilBagels No, not relying on it. Obviously he knew that much; Voldemort technically being on the post was a bonus. I assume, in Voldemort's mind, he would exempt Quirrell from the curse/jinx whatever, but that's not how it worked out.

I think dumbledore knew about the jinx on dada (dark arts) that’s why he assigned quirrel and umbridge to the job and made lupin leave before the end of the year so then nothing bad happened to him.
Dumbledore made the curse on the job
Likewise if he knew Moody was Crouch Jr. all along. (Obviously, the Ministry forced Umbridge on him, so that's not his fault.)
It would seem to me very unethical for Dumbledore to use legilimency on every teacher he hires without their knowledge and consent.
@@PhilBagels Consider how unethical the wizarding world seems to be even at the best of times.

(He knew Harry would be better than any of them)
Excep that Dumbledore didn't think of horcruxes until he saw Slughorn's memory in HP6
In the hospital, Ron and hermione meet dumbledore and he asks them “he’s gone after him?” (Or something like that). He knew
Man, they thougth were Snape
Quirrell is the literal equivalent of “Those who can’t do, teach” 🤣🤣🤣🤣Teaching a subject he wasn’t capable at the first place
Tecnicaly Quirrel could teach if he actually went to learn
Man was getting paid to do something he wasn't capable of doing. Legend
Quittel would have died and Voldemort woukd have been free to posses someone else
Since Hogwarts Legacy came out, I have revived my love for Harry potter. Your videos are amazing 💪
Please, consider creating a video explaining why Dumbledore allowed Lupin to risk his life as a DADA professor.
He probably thought Quirinus was a spy secretly but not Voldemort himself
I think that Dumbledore was suspecting him since his arrival back from Hogwarts and gave him the DADA post just to find out the Truth at least. And yes your point for Legilmency is also true because he might have read Quirrell's mind easily earlier, but now it was not happening. This was the point where he started suspecting him and sent Snape after him🤔👍
The Thumbnail was PERFECT 👌😂🤣😂
Didn't Dumbledore tell Snape in the princes tale, I keep an eye on Quirrel?
In the deathly hallows u mean, tho technically he did tell him in the half blood prince and Harry just saw it in the hallows
4:21 It was Umbrige's thought as well !!!!
Fact check: The book and movie both state in Dumbledore's words, "Did I know I met the most dark wizard of all time? No."
But at least in the books Dumbledore said that while speaking to Harry about the child Tom Riddle, not Voldemort possessing Quirrell.
@@c.h.9223 I'm sure he either knew Quirrell was possessed by Voldemort, but wanted Harry to take him down....maybe because of the prophecy?
Not as fond as I am, being part Italian, but still...)
Mmmmmm....garlic.....garlic on pizza....tapas....No, no, forget the garlic. I might have to apply at Hogwarts as a DADA teacher, since I need a job and I am good at hexes.
Roasted garlic with butter, pepper and herbs. Garlic marinated in vinegar with sugar, olive oil and spices. With meat or salad, with cheese or bread URRGHHH YESS
GARLIC IS THE KING OF ALL VEGETABLES
The deluminator was a spy. It started working for Ron when somebody said his name out loud it must of worked the same for Dumbledore that's how he knew who was talking about him and where they were
Quirrel: falls asleep one night facing the ceiling
Voldy: *suffocates and fucking dies*
*roll credits*
Dumbledore knew that quirrell was working for voldy but I don’t think that he knew that voldy was possessing Quirrell
Thank you for posting this video. It finally makes sense of many questions left unanswered in
"the Sorcerer's Stone".
If you’re theory is true and Dumbledore
planned for the three to end up in that scenario, that’s kinda messed up, but also genius lol
it is true
Excellent clues. I totally agree.
Great video!
I'm surprise Dumbledore didn't just fling Harry at Quirrell with the way he would risk Harry constantly.
There's no risk because Harry is immune to Voldemort
Lmfao I just pictured Dumbledore literally yeeting Harry at Voldemort while yelling EXPECTO POTTERUM then proceeding to giggle at himself.
5:43 the philosophers stone
"they who can not do, Teach."
it's an old adage that's been around for forever-ish.
Fun facts: In the movie lord voldemort is the only one that doesnt have a nose but in the lego game hes the only one with a nose😂😳🤯
And Harry is the only living student with glasses in wizard world 🤯
@@_Kobold_ you’re not looking hard enough, look behind Harry and Neville during the sorting hat scene
@@Lemon_Jackassss Maybe I need new glasses than... :D
Youre voice always helps me to sleep, thanks!
Either:
A) He knew, and was trapping Quirrel/Voldemort in a castle with a child literally charmed against him or
B) He had no idea, and figured a few years teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts to the kids would be all he needed to perfect his practice
You never mentioned a big hint that Dumbledore Suspected Quirrel. If you read book seven. During Snapes memories. Dumbledore tasks Snape to keep an eye on Quirrel.
THAT ENDING SOUNDED EXACTLY LIKE HAGRID xD
Voldemort has always tried so hard to kill Harry but he never tried to actually physically punch or torture him
He used crucio on Harry in the goblet of fire
Comprehensive analysis. Well thought out and executed
When an add interrupts Harry Potter theory “curse you muggles!!!!”
I think your right. I made a song about Dumbledore. Come check it out. I would really appreciate it.
I think that dumbledore knew that professor quirrel was possessed by Voldemort so he used professor Snape to lure Harry to where the philosopher's stone was so that Harry could kill quirrel and potentially kill Voldemort.
totally with until last part kill voldy yes quirrel no
@@pacoescobar7596 yh you're right
I think Harry actually ruined Dumbledore's plan. I mean, had harry not shown up, Qurrell and Voldemort would have just been stuck in that chamber until Dumbledore when down to collect him.
hahah, it would have been funny if Dumbledore just whooped Quirrels ass
I was just thinking about this last night before I went to sleep. I thought, "if Quirrel had Voldemort on the back of his head, how did Dumbledore not know for an entire year?".
Also, we don't get nearly enough information on Quirrel as we do the rest of the DATDA professors in the series.
That is because the book lengths changed
also because there was no DADA class for first years so Harry never took his class
Did Nagini come back to Hogwarts with Quirrell/Voldy? Voldy likes to keep her close! 🐍
did anyone notice that in the first movie Voldemort actually had a
NOSE
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Do a collab with ‘Movie Flame’ & ‘Harry Potter Folklore’!!!!
I just realized. Voldy had a nose in this "weakened" form
Here is what I think. Based on J.K.'s last few movie scripts and books I am fairly certain that she wasn't thinking this hard about the harry potter books.
Squirrel sleeping on his back with Voldemort on the back of his head...
"I cant breathe!!!"
Know is a very strong word especially in the “to know for sure” sense. My guess is dumbledore strongly suspected but didn’t act without proof instead keeping one good eye on him and setting traps and making plans just in case.
It would have been so good if quirell fell backwards
The thumbnail is AWESOME.
Why were there like 10 periods in Hagrid’s line from the book?
I know you probably don't read comments on old videos, but how about one saying where and how Quirrell found Voldemort?
I'll wait for a new video and ask again:D I'd love to see a theory on that:p
He find Voldemort in The Albania Forest
He was unaware of the possession. Snape had to convince Voldemort that he only saw Quirrel the weakling trying to get the stone for selfish reasons. Dumbledore knew Snape would eventually have to double agent again because he was convinced of Voldemorts resurrection. He would have warned Snape to watch but not confront Quirrel in order to make it easier for Snape to double agent later and gain Voldemorts trust, regardless if it was something that Snape could do (and did) he’s too calculated to risk it.
Here's the REAL reason dumbledore knew it was voldemort: "a funny smell hung around the turban, and the Weasley twins insisted that it was stuffed full of garlic"
Voldemort is known to have garlic breath
Love your Chanel! Huge Harry Potter fan here! It’s awesome that I can learn a lot more about history/characters
Unfortunately, Joanne got it wrong. Quirrel taught DADA his whole career. It wasn't until after his death that moldy no nose cursed the job. She didn't know because she was ejected from the wizarding world before she could get all the information for breaking the statute of secrecy.
Nope he studied Muggle Studies before that
I definitely think he suspected if not known. This actually helps me make sense of a few things in the first film. Thanks. This is a great theory
