+jj carpenter The best way to learn is to understand the shape (as opposed to copying the technique from a tutorial), how it is affected by light and apply this directly to paper. Basically you simplify it into basic shapes and shade them, then progressively improve on it. Also practice from life, unless you're Voldemort you most likely have a nose to practice with.
+jj carpenter Try watching some tutorials on how to shade spheres, cubes, cones, etc, and then move on to shading complex shapes when you have a better understanding of light, shadows, and technique. :)
+jj carpenter start lightly and dont think of shading in "lines" for noses i usually just in a circular motion and go over with a blending stump (extremely recommended)
I am 50 years old, but I've only started drawing two years ago as a hobby. I have been struggling with my noses. You taught me in one easy lesson. My nose looked great. Thank you so much.
I HAVE to give this a thumbs up. Grabbed the sketch book. One big circle, two little circles...again...third time...holy moley, that's the best nose I've ever drawn.
I really want to thank you for this video. I have always had so much trouble drawing noses, and I just went from hating every nose that I drew to loving the nose I just drew because of this video! Really, I don't know how you explained it in a way that made sense to me. I've asked so many people and watched so many tutorials, not to mention the endless practicing I've done by myself, but up until I watched this two minutes ago, I never got a result that I liked. Seriously, thank you so much. Keep up the great work! ❤️
Exactly what happened to me...did again 45 minutes of noses yesterday, ended up with paper ark full of alien heads, tried again today, more alien heads. First try while this video running on back and there it was - a recognizable nose! Finally I'm moving forward! Thanks a lot!
I am amazed. I could never draw noses......ever at least not before this video. I like how you make it simple with basic shapes and shadings. Some tutorials are like "so first you draw a nose shape" and I'm like HOW I DRAW A NOSE SHAPE!! anyone else with me?
I like your advice about holding a drawing at least 5 ft. away, It's' really cool when someone throws out a "golden nugget" of information like that and it has an immediate impact on their drawings.
I had been self-improving but they weren't always exactly realistic especially the nose and watching your videos helped me improve so much the *very first* time. They looked amazing on first try and I feel really great. Thank you very much! Please keep making videos.
Apparently I'm completely talent-less, because I can't even follow a simple tutorial. I just want to get better and advance my art style, but no matter how many times I try nothing improves in the slightest.
When it comes to getting better, practice is key! Doing something over and over and over and over will give you results. Learning how to look closely at something will also help you get better - break complex objects down into simpler shapes, look at shadows and highlights, look at the space around objects to see what is not there or the spacial relationships between two things. Don't give up! I always tell my students that the more they think they can't do something, the more likely they will never do it. Negative mindset keeps people from reaching goals! Keep at it! Keep trying!
I really appreciate your simplicity in your techniques. It has been extremely helpful and user friendly. Thank you. I am new to watching these art videos. It's been some time since I have drawn and this has been most helpful. I look forward to seeing more of your tutorials.
I love this! I am not that old yet so I am trying to reach those goals of getting these skills! The hardest part of drawing a face for me is drawing the nose. I like how it is not to detailed and not too hard to copy. It's perfect!
Thank you so much for this awesome video I used to draw my noses as circles but now you helped me a lot and every time I sit down to draw I’m always so excited because I get to show my improvement every time I draw! Before watching this video I had no idea how to shade but you taught me so many things in this video and I just subscribed!
Thank you! I always draw while watching tutorials. The first time i watched it was yesterday, so the drawing was okay i got all the points but not so well. I watched it again today and drew it so it's perfect now! Bless you!
So today I've learned how to draw a nose and a mouth just got to perfect the eyes now and lots of practice. Got to love youtube and the wonderfully talented people who make these guides.
You are so incredible! I watch your videos and feel my art improving so much. I couldn't thank you enough, your explanation of each step makes things so much easier. Making isolation so much nicer for me as I see my art improve, thank you!
Yesterday, I was doing really bad and weird noses, but today when I found this video I started drawing portraits (really realistic ones). I'm still speechless thank you so so much for this video! ♥
+Shah Faisal So much practice. Always be drawing and never get down on yourself. It takes time to get better! You also never get better if you don't challenge yourself!
Thank you so much!!! It took me some time but I finally managed to draw a realistic nose without messing it up :D I know this video is old and all but I found it very helpful! thanks for the inspiration :3
Thank you so much for taking the time to record this. I have not drawn since I was a child. I was good for my age, and then found other interests. I have spent my adult life saying I can't draw. lol I started officially trying to teach myself and taking online courses since 7/1/18 and while I am SO much better than I thought I was I struggle with the nose most of all. So thank you again. AND I loved listening to you. You are so calming. Thanks :)
+Diamondfinder511 if you didn't notice in the video, I am left handed... It doesn't matter what hand you use, the technique and the ideas don't change!
I lovehow you explain exactly what you are doing as you do it! Super helpful for us beginners and even sharing where you struggled :) thank you for your tutorial
Many Thanks. This worked well for me because you started with three circles and not an elipse which represents the whole nose. The most videos show that so you are an exception.
After my first try with this tutorial, I made a better nose than all my noses. With some practice I will draw a good nose. Thx for the tutorial. I appreciate it!
This was very helpful ! My noses are definitely improving but I used graphite pencils and I think I went to hard on pressure but they do look better than before!! Love your videos!😌
Not always! You can do amazing things with a regular pencil or a mechanical pencil! Fancy drawing pencils can give you a greater range of values, which can be helpful, but you can do most things with a regular pencil.
Thank you very much for this video. This is a very helpful nose tutorial and I liked how you taught the construction with shading more than just circles and lines. Keep it coming. Love your teaching style.
Thank you for this tutorial. I got it down pretty close on my first try. At first I thought I was doing it incorrectly but I just trusted my instinct and the shapes that were developing on the page. By the end of the video, I had a nose that I felt I could reach out and touch lol. I am really happy because this is a subject I've struggled with since I started drawing.

Thank you so much Jescia ! Not only you draw beautifully, even the way you teaches is beautiful. Looks like you are a circle person ;) I'm a pre beginner, yet to buy my supplies. Your videos are super motivating. Thanks again!
Excellent tutorial! I drew a nose. I always liked drawing as a kid now at 59 and retired it has re-entered my life. Thanks.
I love watching actual artists draw like you, it’s so fluid and purposeful. Thanks for the great video.
yeah ,I also think same ,she is great artist
the shading is where i go horribly wrong and i mean terribly

Good for you Kate, you never quit (smile).
Kate Jones thank you for this tutorial I've been struggling with noses for a while
Can’t even draw the circles right
Same I had to practice drawing them for a hour before doing this
I just put my phone under my piece of paper and traced it...
sameeee
Try to get a circular object, a small circle shaped object and a big circle shaped object
It’s soo easy I can do it

drawing a nose is the most difficult part and you have done it with ease and moreover you have drawn it with left hand. Awesome!
What is the secret of drawing so good? I always wanted to become a good sketcher
+Shah Faisal So much practice. Always be drawing and never get down on yourself. It takes time to get better! You also never get better if you don't challenge yourself!
