I love it, that's why I subscribed. We've also homeschooled for 25 years. It's great. Not many cons lol! But I am the mum.....so there. Our youngest son scored top 4% in North America on the SAT test though. Our second son is in a physiotherapy doctorate program as I write. Third bought his own house at 23yrs of age. Oldest works remotely technical for medical. Just like you our four sons are all successful in their own right. :) I am 58 yrs old and have slept on the floor for about 2 yrs now. Just on an Asian yoga mat with a one inch memory foam on top actually. But my husband wants something different now from his fat mainstream mattress, so I will look into your futon with tatami mat under maybe? Or that new set up you were sent lately.
The only thing better than homeschooling is unschooling :) I know many home and unschooled children (including my own) and they are generally happier and more knowledgable and in touch with themselves than regular schooled kids. We unschool but we send our kid to a 4.4 hour daily activity 4 days a week for the social part of it and a few activities in the afternoons both sports and some lessons that he wants to learn. School is an ancient system that hasn't been updated much in 100 years and is basically like a very nasty babysitter for man hours a day where yeah, children also learn some things that they could learn in a much shorter time just by being alive without it being forced on them.
Thanks for sharing! Me and my wife always talk about homeschooling our little girl (she's 5), and, even with those cons, you seem like a pretty healthy (mentally at least) young fella, with critic thinking, that it might have to do with that! Like, school, is for "normalizing", it tries to make everybody think and live somehow the same! Anyway, thanks for sharing
I went to public school and it sucked. You couldn't question the teachers and the ones that did take the time to answers were rare. If you didn't go by their flow you were a target for trouble. I remember I was in the elementary building when they started rolling out the standardized testing and it was so stressful. I remember they did an award ceremony for all those who performed perfect scores. And the ones that didn't get perfect scores they told us we had to perform better. I remember the older teachers being upset over it and that's when I stopped thriving and shut down. So many teachers were glad they retired so they didn't have to deal with it. It took the fun out of learning and I was stressed all the time about performing good on tests to the point I formed anxiety. My mom saw me shut down. She saw her own students shut down. As time went on I just went through school and on my own time looked up questions I had at the library 🙃.
Hey, I was homeschooled, too! Kinda cool to find out you were. I liked being homeschooled for the most part. There was a big group of homeschoolers in my area, so I had quite a few friends I saw every day. I still feel like I’m missing a little socialization, though.
Love this! I was also homeschooled and can definitely relate to all of this. As an adult I started being more quiet about being homeschooled to prevent being judged but I like your mentality of using the judgement to push you forward instead of holding you back!
The current school system was set up to create factory workers. The world has changed a lot on the last 200 years or so, but the school system hasn’t. 🤷🏻♀️
Sounds good that you were tested to see that you got all the basics. I hear so much bad English these days, that somewhere... school or not, the kids aren't getting the basic sentence structure, etc. Sometimes nothing is better than rote, and practice. A lot of homeschooling nowadays is kid led. They get a lot of experiences, but do they get the 'rules' or language, math, etc. Just wondering.
Homeschool stats smash the crap outta public schools and still beat private schools on average.

Love the vid! It’s odd, but as someone who was homeschool, our homeschool style definitely made my socialization skills better than my peers.

WHITEST KIDS YOU KNOW! The fact that you know that reference is all I needed to know that you were raised properly 🤙
69. Tee hee hee.
BASED???
you said public school is just ‘follow orders’ and ‘don’t think’, but that’s a stereotype, and you didn’t go there anyway, so how would you know?
