I have the V3 orange dial version and absolutely love it. The bracelet is fantastic. It's much better than the bracelets I've had supplied on other watches that cost over 1K. The ONLY reason I would buy a Doxa is if I wanted the Cussler 300t...which I do! But am I willing to pay 2200 more for it? Not anytime soon, that's for sure.
Wanted a Doxa forever. Saw this and bought it in a second. The Doxa company has really gone downhill over the last few years. This satisfies my Dirk Pitt aspirations. I’ll keep my sea star I mean seestern
I did the same thing lol. Waiting on mine to get delivered, hopefully next week. I couldn’t justify dropping the money on the Doxa while saving for my grail. But for $164 the Seestern was a no brainer.
Update: just got mine in today. Its incredible. I honestly cannot believe the build quality on this watch for $164! If you’re thinking about buying one take it from me, buy it. This watch is built like a tank and you don’t have to worry about breaking a watch worth thousands of dollars. This has instantly become my daily driver, and thats saying something since i own thousand dollar wristwatches.
I've started a small campaign to get Seestern to homage the Sub 750t GMT. Big fan of their 600t clomage, love the orange dial. Honestly, the only downside to Seestern right now vs Doxa for me is dial balance. The way Doxa has both the more prominent print (DOXA/Model name) with the smaller (automatic/color) below fills out the dial better, IMO. But it's such a small thing when everything else about the watch is so great. Plus from what snippets I've come across online, Doxa and Seestern are both heavily produced in China, so...
@@WatchGeek The only question I really have is what they could put on the dial that would make sense. They can't really put the model name, as I'm guessing that would cause kerfuffles with customs/copyright. And I honestly don't trust a Chinese company to come up with English names for colors... although, maybe they can just translate the Doxa color names into German. 😂
I love mine. I'd be so disappointed with a Doxa with bad lume for all that $$$. The Seestern is stellar -- you can even see the tiny hour hand in the wee hours of the morning. Great review. 👍
Nice review! I'm not really a big fan of the look of this watch but I had to buy it because I'm a huge fan of the Clive Cussler books and Dirk Pitt. I think Seestern did a fantastic job homaging this watch and I'm very happy with mine.
Seestern has been making really good watches for a while. It's great that they have been getting better and better. I'm blown away that in some respects, it surpasses the original. The fact that the dial is different is cool because when you buy homage watches, you don't want it to be exactly like the original. I see it as a custom remake of a beloved watch. I have two homages that are more beautiful than the originals because they feature colors that were never available on the original watches. To me, it's like owning a custom watch that is less expensive than the original. I love having a watch that I know the guy next to me would probably never have.
1:55 the tachymeter bezel was on the tactical frog homage. Not on the seestern. The v1 and v3 are very similar. The v2 has a lower bezel. The lume on the date disc is quite useless after midnight. The date will change and a oart of the date disc that hasn’t seen light will be exposed. So, no lume. That said; I love my v1. It is very well executed and has a great bracelet. Better that the Maranez Samui homages.
Great watch. I have the MP dial. It's one of my favorites to wear. Only the customer service sucks. Another Seestern with a NH35 movement has problems keeping time, but they never send me, although promised many times, another one.😢
Doxa & Seestern cases, IMHO are on equal footing. Doxa has an SW-200 movement Seestern has an NH35 movement, both solid workhorses. For the money and quality, the Seestern wins hands down!
Wish I knew more of the story you closed with about the original diver. Have to say that the glossiness of the original is one of the things that makes it special. Brushing it all down is more modern and practical and the orange just does not pop like the original.
Very well made videos, I'm a huge fan and subscriber. Just FYI, I have 2 Doxa, an Aquamarine 300T and Clive Cussler special edition. I've never had any issues with the bracelet wedging against the lugs or a wobbly bezel. Bought both from an authorised retailer. Could it be because you got an aftermarket "fixed" watch?
You have your facts wrong. The version 1 and 2 never had tachymeter bezels… that was the Tactical Frog versions that more closely resemble the Sub 300C with almost the same dimensions, bracelet specs, and curved crystal. The version 1 of the Seestern 300t had a non luminous black pip on the Bezel, and 13.65 mm thick, exactly like the Doxa. Version 2 has a little more anti glare, a luminous white dot on the bezel instead of a black non luminous dot, and thinner at 12.5mm. Version 3 is at 13mm thick. Honestly, Seestern should have remained to the original design of the case thickness of the Doxa 300t at 13.65 mm, which makes the watch sit a little higher, makes it a little more top heavy, and keeps the crown off your wrist. A watch with a bracelet of this design needs to sit a little more top heavy so that it rolls a little more over the wrist, instead of keeping it sitting flush flat on the wrist. I have the version 1, and I love it! I could care less about the non luminous pip of the version 1
This one is amazing.. used to have one - it is amazing watch and that price... how? lol (sled it because I needed some funds at the time.. but I might rebuy at some point lol)
IMHO, the SW-200 is good Swiss movement, but not the best. I think the Seiko NH35 has a proven track record that can match the Swiss movement all day long, this coming from a very happy Christopher Ward owner.
I own a Seestern yellow dial sub 300t homage, and a genuine Doxa 300t, there is no comparison in my opinion. The Seestern is a great watch, apart from the clasp its garbage. I also have a white Seestern 600t in white, which I wear on a Helm white rubber strap which I love.
I have both a Doxa and a Seestern and to me the Doxa is better in every way. The bracelet is far better on the Doxa, the dial appearance on the Doxa is just more crisp and the overall quality of the Doxa is much better (which it should be!). If your previous Doxa was used when you bought it, then that could explain some of its issues so not really quite a fair comparison. Save for the Doxa and buy a new one.
I agree on the dial, but the width and flatness of the black border markers on the hour markers is the only problem that stands out or shall I say doesn't stand out enough on the dials. There's a reason DOXA made them just the way they did, and the other homages and replicas got that part right, but the way Seestern's done it needs to be upgraded.
The thing with homages, even if they are technically better is at the end of the day youre still wearing a seestern vs a doxa, brands make a difference, thats why everyone wants a rolex, dont say this isnt true. All my homages, chinese specials are collecting dust in the box and i bet so are majority of other peoples im willing to bet. If it makes this guy happy , because of better lume and his tiny wrists it doesn't mean that holds true for you... Just save up and get that dream watch, youll be million times more satisfied. Maybe doxa dropped the ball, sure , so get something else of value to you and save those 200, 500 bucks towards your grail..
Not better than the Original. I have both, started with the Seestern. Felt cheap in all aspects (Bracelet, Case, Printing, keeping time, no trust in WR). But was nice to get the feel of size & weight. Doxa is miles ahead.

Wearing exactly the same while watching this review, It's such a beautiful watch!!

Yup, I agree about the printing! I do hope they improve that as well in next generations as they seem to be listening to buyers

Sub 750t GMT with a NH34a would be great!
Doxa and Seestern are both heavily produced in China....😆
I have the version with the aventurine dial. It's my favorite watch. So comfy!
yup they are getting better and better!
I couldn't agree more! With a more up market movement and an on the fly adjustable clasp they could take my money in a heartbeat
“Just from me looking at it.” Dude, you are awesome!
Just ordered mine on Aliexpress, can't wait to get it😎
Never underestimate Seestern and Sugess. They're always something.
I love mine. I'd be so disappointed with a Doxa with bad lume for all that $$$. The Seestern is stellar -- you can even see the tiny hour hand in the wee hours of the morning. Great review. 👍

@Gisae but the V1 does not have the (functioning) lume pip on the bezel, correct?
It's surprising how a 200 dollar watch can equal an almost 3000 dollar one and be even better at some points...
Great watch. I have the MP dial. It's one of my favorites to wear.

Question :are the markers on the dial ...applied or painted ?

The flared bracelet could have been executed much better by Doxa. I think the Seiko Monster does it well.

I’ve had mine for nearly 2 years now. Yep it’s as good as you say. I’ll never buy a Doxa over this piece.
Looks like you sized the bracelet. How hard was it to do?
IMHO, the SW-200 is good Swiss movement, but not the best. I think the Seiko NH35 has a proven track record that can match the Swiss movement all day long, this coming from a very happy Christopher Ward owner.
Got the 600t - very impressive homage
Man, you must have really got a lemon with your used Doxa. I have two Doxas 300/300t and have none of the issues you reported. Too bad. Thanks.
yea, and to be quiet honest: "I love it !" ... 😂
Can they have a metric bezel?
If your a Doxa owner of course your going to be pissed off and defend the Doxa after paying all that money.
Has anyone tryed to swim with it? And maybe a dive atleast 10 meters?

Of course the Doxa is better! But for 1/10th the price, the Seestern is a really nice watch.
Doxa, however, has an SW200-1 movement. Good workhorse movement, but nothing spectacular.
Why did you buy the Seestern then?
I agree on the dial, but the width and flatness of the black border markers on the hour markers is the only problem that stands out or shall I say doesn't stand out enough on the dials. Whats the price?
It's about £150.
I got mine off Amazon for $190
Had the 300T. Overated garbage. Bad timekeeping and crap lume. Not acceptable for the price. Just bought the V3.
