a 2zz will make 200whp with a stock intake manifold, with just a header exhaust CAI and tune. considering the displacement deficit and the restrictive intake manifold, it's a good for a little 1.8.

This engine is great. The 2ZZ in my Lotus Elise has a built head and a blower strapped to it. With my custom exhaust setup the car sounds like an F1 car mated with a Yamaha R1 (Yamaha designed the 2ZZ head). There is no better feeling than hearing my car approach its 9K RPM redline combined with the blower whine right behind my head. It is such a unique experience having a rear, mid-engine exotic car that weighs around 2000 pounds making 330whp. It is a quick little street car that can get me into a lot of trouble if I don't respect it but I do because I plan on keeping this car forever since it was one of my dream cars growing up as a kid. Plus, where can you go to replace the engine in your exotic for a few hundred bucks at the local pick and pull or get a new short block from Toyota for a few grand? Try doing that with a Ferrari 430 or an MP4-12C.
Yeah im 16 and ive grown up with a celica t-sport under the garages roof, and even beinf a fwd not as light car its still really fun and i really like joy riding it

R A F A , late reply but Portugal isn’t miserable. Wait until quarantine is done in Spain then go drive some of the tracks there. You have the race track in Algarve don’t you? If I’m not mistaken my wife (she is first generation Portuguese American, her parents are immigrants) said there was a track in Algarve where her cousin races his Ducati. The track also has open track days for cars and autocross in the car park area as well. She mentioned another track further north up the coast that is more famous and well known but it slips my mind at the moment. I think your country is wonderful and I can’t wait to go and meet the Portuguese side of my new family. Also if you don’t have autocross or any driving events near you, start some. Chances are if you are into it, someone in your city or town has same passion as well that would love to join you or even help to set something up.
Currently in the process of swapping a 2ZZ-GE into an AW11 MR2.
Seems like a great successor to the 4A-GE I've currently got. Plus 8600rpm and 200bhp in a mid engined car that weighs under 1000kg is gonna be fun.

@@shiftn2gear Very well. Just cleaning up the engine bay and doing some of those "while you're there" jobs then it's ready to go in.
After that it's just a case of figuring out coolant system, fuel, clutch line, intake piping and should be good to go.
1zz is evolution of 4age .Just same as 4age but little faster 2zz is nothing but overrated crap ,that is harder to modify when it comes to turbo builds .Block and crankshaft are better in 1zz.99% celica turbo builds that you gonna see are GT (1zz) . And yeah if 2zz is that good? Why it isn't stock in MR-S . Just look even at the torque . 1zz is even better in that field .GT celica is lighter too . So if you like track or touge , go with 1zz GT . If you like to be "Straight road racing" guy go with 2zz , even if it's not much faster ,like 1 sec . I'm not even triggered or anything , because I typed all this .I'am just sick of illiterate 'car' people
Wasn’t too sure about the 2zz when I bought my car, but I have for damn sure fallen in love, and plan on doing an absolutely nuts build on my 03 Celica GTS

After owning mine for a while I got annoyed by GTI's busting me because of their turbo's, but a compressor T-sport is more than twice as expensive as the regular one. Maybe I should just have it turbo'd myself..
@@Aristocrafied That would have ruined it... the 2ZZ-GE was designed as a naturally aspirated lightweight, high revving engine. It is an open deck engine (which doesn't matter much today, but still), has a high compression ratio, and the gears break easily over 350 hp.

@@Aristocrafied Exactly. Just get an intake, an header (please, please don't straight pipe or put a loud exhaust on it), maybe some valve springs and MWR stage 2 cams, rev it to 9000 rpm and you're set.
This engine is the proper successor to the 4age 20v.

2zz-ge = sports 'g' wide angle cams
Also lotus and toyota came to an agreement that toyota wouldn't put the 2zzge in the mr2-s because it would be half the price of the lotus and perhaps out sell it as an alternative lotus didn'twant that happen. Get your facts right. sunnyboi. 2zzge is new version 4age designed on more torque and more power. They ever use the same c60 ratios.

You know this engine sounds a lot like the b16 and b18 Honda engines. This is a 1.8 liter as well so I guess it makes sense
Own an 05 Corolla XRS in Canada. Really wish I had the money to fix the rust on it. Unfortunately the weather and road salt in the winter plagues all cars with rust eventually. Still enjoy the ride.

what makes me cringe the most? are those who start up the car and start mashing on the throttle right away without idling for at least a minute to get the oil flowing.... a good way to dry burn the top end (IMO)
I mean, tbh these days engines are made to work in very cold environments so they are used to it, it was more of a problem in older engines where the block would crack because of the sudden heat change
In 2ZZ-GEs it's more likely to wear the MMC cylinder bores or blow up the oil pump.
I'd like to think they warmed the engine up first before turning it off and starting it again for the video.
My plan for the future, swap a 2zz engine in my celica. The 1zz is too underpowered and it be burning oil, it just won't cut it for me. This is my 2nd 1zz engine, I wanted a 2zz engine, but my bro in law talked me out of getting one since he was telling me the 2zz is already maxed powered at stock. So basically, you cannot put anymore horsepower on a 2zz according to my bro in law. I'm pretty mad about it til this day. Everyone, even something your grandma would be driving would always pass me and it's embarrassing.

You can put as much power as you want through a 2ZZ-GE. Problem is, it'll cost you a lot of money and take a lot of work. Thing is with that engine is all the basic stuff you would do to a normal engine is already done. Cams, exhausts, intakes, engine maps etc are already optimised. The only things that will make more power are big things like polishing the ports, aftermarket engine management, forced induction, lightened flywheels etc. If you go for a turbo build you'd need to replace the cylinder sleeves with conventional iron ones instead of the magic low friction space materials they made the standard ones out of.

Does anyone know why in some clip the oil light is on? Simply low oil or other problems with pressure? I saw some videos of the 2zz and when the light comes on during hard cornering the engine kills itself... I am a noob, and i dream of having a Celica with 2zz so that's why I am concerned
Had that happen to my gts a few months ago, oil starved on hard cornering on the track and spun a rod bearing. Get a moroso oil pan and that will never be an issue. I’ll be getting one before next season for sure.

The b series is a bit different, the b16 is more like a 4a-ge and this 2zz is an upgraded version of the 1zz-fe which is very similar to the 4a-ge, the b18 on the other hand is straight up the same but with more power

Yeah. It's pretty much the successor to the 4A-GE. Toyota hadn't really had a good naturally aspirated four cylinder since the last 20V 4A-GEs and the 4A-GE was a bit of a dinosaur.
There are a lot of similarities. So much so that I'm swapping my 4A-GE for a 2ZZ-GE in my AW11 MR2. 200bhp in something that weighs less than 1000kg. Yes please. Much better than the 128bhp from the 4A-GE and lighter too.

Its a toyota yaris, its usually sold on europe but this one has a 2zz-ge swap and i would say that the exhaust is just a 2" full stainless steel with two cats

@@nvl2691 ive thought about that but it isnt, ive spoken to the guy since the upload of the video and this comment 1 month ago and he told me he had short gears ratios and a really short tune, thus making it look sped up, but the speed is normal he takes about 5 to 6 seconds to hit 60
@@RAFAGaming11 I though it was sped up because of the sound: a 2ZZ-GE at 8500 rpm doesn't sound as highly strung as it does in the video. Speeding up footage makes the engine sound like it revs higher, that's what I based myself upon. Performance wise, it is perfectly believable for an NA built 2ZZ to accelerate as fast as it does in the video, if not faster.
