It’s not just in the advert whereas you rightly say it would be lovely to stop the fighting. I just wish the whole damn world would stop fighting not just for a day - the way the world is now we need more than one day. We need it forever.
The 1914 war truce one was true! But I heard that the soldiers didn't want to fight anymore. But, the commanders threatened to shoot anyone who didn't go back fighting because of failure to follow orders and treason. People and soldiers fight wars, but governments and leaders cause them. BTW, I loved your reactions to the commercials. I also teared up. They were beautifully made.
It's still known as the christmas truce. A christmas miracle that happened in 1914. Edit: that event nowadays is more popular to the british than to the germans. The christmas truce lasted further than just on christmas, it went on beyond new year's day.
The advert which is set in The First World War or The Great War is a Sainsbury’s advert done in cooperation with The Royal British Legion, the bar of Belgian 🇧🇪 chocolate featured in the advert sold very well particularly at the branch I worked at here in Grimsby. That year I had been to Belgium 🇧🇪 on a battlefield tour which took in Remembrance Day in a nearby village a number of miles from Ieper called Vichte where joined the villagers for a march through the village stopping at the local Catholic Church for a service before marching across the road to the local memorial where both national anthems God Save The Queen (now God Save The king) after The Belgian National Anthem wreaths were laid then we marched to the British Cemetery in the village and a service took place were wreaths were laid, British national anthem was played before the locals started leaving one of us would stand by entrance/exit and sweets were handed out to the children. We would then walk to the town hall and have speeches in 2016 I was presented with a medal on my 10th visit I was the last person of our group mostly old men apart from myself to receive the medal. We would have some nibbles and drinks then proceed to the restaurant in a hotel for a meal.
Your heart shined through in your reaction and you have a beautiful heart Sarah, I wish you a very happy Christmas this year and I hope 2025 is everything you want it to be! Wishing you an abundance of health, wealth, love, success and happiness! Best wishes, Alfie
Love all the John Lewis' adverts but 'The Man On The Moon' is my favourite and was made for the charity (Age UK) I believe to show that elderly people can be lonely especially at christmas. There is another great one with a snowman who travels miles to get his snow wife/girlfriend a present. The soldier one is for 'Sainsburys' a supermarket in the UK and not John Lewis and actually happened. The last one I believe is German.
Hello, this Truce of 1914 really happened , but in just other way. It was Germans who s been going out to the English soldiers...close to f Belgian town Ypry. .. After 1914, the High Commands on both sides tried to prevent any truces on a similar scale happening again. Despite this, there were some isolated incidents ...
Yes, and French soldiers fired on unarmed German soldiers elsewhere. Nowhere is there any comment on their part that this happened on both sides of the front. Do you want to play quid pro quo but demonize the other side? That's exactly how escalation works. A world without enemy images would be boring, right?
It was traditional waiting for the Christmas adverts to out. It was always a competition to see who had the most talked about advert. Then everyone went woke, and the adverts became rubbish as they went PC and DEI, pandering to certain delusional people pretending to be something that they can't be. But if you get time, please listen to Stop The Calvary. Branded as an anti-war song, but totally loved by the common or garden variety squaddie.
This is a true story.Stay safe young lady. The Christmas Truce Of 1914.

I feel that deeply 😔
If there was 1 person on you tube that I new would feel these adverts it would be you Sarah ❤️
Silent Night (Stille Nacht) is without doubt the most beautiful and emtional Christmas Carol 🥰
These were beautiful, touching commercials. 😊
Based on a true story that happened in World War I between German and English soldiers...!
❤❤❤❤❤❤👍

There would be no war.

There's a longer version of the 1914 Christmas ad. It's worth the watch and the extra tears
Just subbed, love your reactions Sarah. Stay safe ok. X
I sincerely wonder.... what would war look like, if we went back to the days of leaders participating in the actual fighting?
Outstanding question.
The leaders didn't fight in ww1 lmao they sat back and watched
@@mcbill7352 I don't know what's funny. I was referring to the days of kings. Not modern warfare. That's why my question was pertinent.

High Sarah you should do a reaction to a group called Heartland and the song is called I Loved Her First
There's actually a longer version of the 1914 truce, they showed a shorter version in the US
Fact about the WW1 advert is most of the comedian in the advert are descendants of the people who did the truce.

Unfortunately a lot of those young soldiers got courtmarshalled
