I honestly think Paul has emotional or depression issues. He catches a lot of shit from the internet too, and that can't help matters. I have a buddy who literally has hair just like that, and it's because he can't be bothered to care about almost anything due to his mental problems.
This was an amazing video...The questions asked by Paul were very practical and JP gave the perfect answers to them..Not too long not too short... Wonderful insight into how he constructs riffs and how the whole band works together... One thing I would like to point out is from 12:35 he tells you why he used Alternate picking because after 16 notes you end up on a downstroke again...Not many virtuoso guitarists can Breakdown what they are doing and explain it to us like that...I mean if you asked Yngwie the same thing he would rip through the riff but he wouldn't be able to explain it to you.. Nothing against Yngwie but JP is one of the very few guitarists who has a wonderful blend of natural talent and intellectual ability which really helps many guitarists like me who are learning in a practical way..I learn something from every JP lesson
john petrucci is truly music scientist.. paul riario is always be my favorite guitarist, and he asks questions we need to ask, and john just nailed it.. btw paul's hair looks like songoku's and i love it.
Great album. I love hearing people like JP and Paul gilbert etc talk about music. Their knowledge of their craft blows me away and makes me wish i'd spent more time when I was younger learning it!.
John showing the mark of a true professional. Being able to break down a process into something easy to understand without sounding like he's talking down to us. Love his openness to talking through process
Seriously John, you are THEE man!! Such a blessing to the guitar world (no pun intended btw). Thanks for ALWAYS taking the time for us, your fans...I know you know what I’m saying. You are just a cool dude all around. Great new album, great band, ROCK on! 🤘🏻💕🤘🏻
Chazite's Customs Corner the riff keeps running the same finger movement or motion over and over ... how is that not what he said? You fucking moron ...
Great questions asked... Why did you choose the tuning. I always wondered that. Like they got two songs in the entire catalog in Eb. Really makes it annoying for touring. Also, liked how was the lick constructed. That cminor to cmajor caught my ear right away as a unique choice.
I gotta say, when JP explains everything ... "And this is how I make the statue of liberty disappear..." how about a cooler explanation? "I was doing shrooms with the wife and..."
"So tell me, how does one make music?" - "Here's what I do" - *"HM"* - "I pick up a" - *"YEAH"* - "guitar and start playing" - *"YES"* - "what I" - *"HM"* - "feel like." - "But how do you play notes that sound good?" - "Well, the secret" - *"YES"* - "is to have a" - *"RIGHT"* - "clue what you're doing."
What I heard Pretrucci say: "You need more theory.. honestly, there's no way around it.. you can't practice your way into knowing it, you have to actually study it.. ok dude?" Ok Mr. Petrucci, thanks for the advise.. I will.
Always wonder how he chooses which tuning for specific song. Now I know (kinda). I thought he based the tuning on Labrie vocal range to not strain him. It’s just ‘feel’ and ‘tone’. Good job Paul good interview
John Petrucci is my biggest influence in guitar playing. I look forward to to attending Dream Theater concert and seeing him playing on stage in Dallas on 4/29. I have covered several Dream Theater songs on my guitar and published on my RUclips channel. You can check them out if you are interested.
I think the part about john petrucci I admire the most is how basic the structure of the song, yet how beautifully he utilizes the basic composition. I think it was mozart who just wrote a composition with the 1 chord in different inversions, yet it doesnt sound like it. It's genious
I like how the interviewer keeps injecting his own analysis like he's on the same level with John. Then John, because he's a nice guy, nods his head and agrees as to not be rude, and then the interviewer takes that as confirmation that he's on the same level.... He's not.
Yeah, but still he adds his non-John/semi-god status point of view to the video review which is a interesting conversation/analysis average gate for all us other non-John/semi-god status viewers to appreciate the video from, idk man doesn't seem so much like Paul thinks he's out there, but more like he simply "runs" the show
@@Slashings Maybe it's more his attitude and the little sense of arrogance that I'm getting from him that's making me say that... I don't know.. I could be wrong and probably am, sometimes you see a person one way but after you get to understand who they are you end up completely wrong. Hard telling..
Great appearance by John. Loved the way he talked and how he explained. Not a fan of DT since Change of Seasons, but his charme just won me over to get the new album and try to like it.

I miss the sparkling of images...... Anyway...once again dream theater is back!!!!and that counts .... the heavier jp grows....the heavier dt sounds😬

What kind of friends does Paul have?? Not one of them has had the courtesy to talk to him about his hair.
His hair is like that because he's balding and he thinks this hairstyle hides it. Dude needs to accept that nobody's gonna judge his bald head.
I honestly think Paul has emotional or depression issues. He catches a lot of shit from the internet too, and that can't help matters. I have a buddy who literally has hair just like that, and it's because he can't be bothered to care about almost anything due to his mental problems.

John's also the man behind dream theater and it's his new album. He hired some pretty good musicians though.
Great stuff from JP as always. You can tell he was a teacher, he's excellent at breakig things down and explaining on simple terms.
