This might be several years late, but here's my two cents anyway. I LOVE this build of yours. I hated how many min-maxing players used Charge as their only biotic power, completely ignoring the fun factor and versatility the other powers provide. And it still keeps the class fast-paced and ballsy. Very fun video to watch.
I love vanguarding. Lift + Shockwave (groups) and Lift + Charge (singles) turns Shepard into a space football player. I sometimes wish I had throw, after playing the ME1 vanguard it feels like an essential skill but I guess in ME2 throw became more of a ranged than a close skill, and they wanted to encourage more up close and personal combat.
@Urth of the New Sun ME2 Shockwave was _supposed_ to be a closer version of the throw, but it's grounded and kinda sucks. Thankfully, in ME3, Vanguard really excels at finishing combos with Shockwave since it now flies through the air like a missile. Mass Effect 2 has that weird problem where Vanguard sets up combos with no finisher (SW barely hits pulled targets, and they usually can't be targeted for a charge), while Sentinel only warps/throws to finish them, without any way to set up for combo. Unless you pick squadmates based on powers and not story. Adept has that problem with all enemies having layers of defense. ME3 fixes all that and just goes boom on all of these classes (but screws up Tech armor instead). I wonder what class in ME has builds that can play like ME1 "mages", with a lot of crowd control skill usage? Vanguard did Lift, followed by Throw or Carnage, then refreshed their cooldowns with Adr. Rush, Sentinel could also Lift then blew everything up with Throw and tech explosions (instead of tanking like here) and Adept didn't have problems with defenses.
This was damn good to watch. Usually when someone uploads a Vanguard video they just spam charge. Instead I saw someone making full use of all a Vanguard's biotics. You put on a good show, as usual.
Wow, I truly appreciate seeing a well-rounded vanguard play style! I've been thinking of re-visiting Vanguard myself. I tried it out - on normal - and I just kept getting my ass kicked. But after watching this and a few other good videos/tutorials, I think I'm seeing the light. Thanks :) Hope to see some ME3 vids from you!
1:22 lol, physics in ME2 always make for funny kills, but the merc FALLING FROM THE SKY VERTICALLY ON TOP OF ANOTHER is literally the funniest thing I've seen during Mass Effect combat! xD
Shockwave and pull (and another bonus power, like lift) are more for crowd-control, when there are too many enemies in a area and you can't make use of the Vanguard's main abilities (get close, take enemy out quickly, get out)
I never actually liked the charge (one of the reasons I decided I didn't like the vangaurd early on). Shockwave and pull as well as throw have proven very useful especially against husks (when I just don't feel like wasting the bullets..
@Lelogogo09 On PC you get 8 hotkeys (top left corner): 1 (Stasis), 2 (Pull), 3 (Shockwave), and 8 (Charge) are Shepard's. 4 (Warp), 5 (Stasis), and 7 (Singularity) are Liara's powers. Number 6 is Kasumi's Overload (for the Hatch fight I swapped Overload for Flashbang Grenades). During the first fight (Azure), Kasumi Overloads shields; Shepard casts Pull Field to get them airborne and to finish them off with Liara's Warp or Shepard's Shockwave. I hope this clarifies ;)
Vanguard is the most fun class to play in Mass Effect 2. I platinum'd ME2 as a Sentinel imported from a Hardcore game and survived all five waves during Fight For Your Life in Project Rho in Arrival on Insanity with relative ease at Level 30. I started a new ME2 game on Insanity as a Vanguard, having never played as one before. It took a little while to learn how to fight as one, but I finished the whole game on Insanity and even finally survived all 5 waves in Arrival as a Level 30 Vanguard.
@jwalker1862 Engi died at the hand of the Claymore, it was one of the SB Agents who got Warped that survived! I tried Charging into the warp explosion first, but the explosion isn't enough to kill em - a tiny bit of their health remained. Hitting them high above the ground almost guarantees their demise when they fall back down :)
I saw a bioware video stating a vanguard in me3 will have an AoE attack in an area around Shepard that does huge damage but depletes all your barrier (called nova i think)... this along with biotic charge giving barrier back is gonna be much fun to use in me3... I can't wait!! Biotic charge... shotgun/nova find cover quick... cooldown is done quick charge again get barrier back for more nova action- awesome!
@MrBozorgmehr Wow, I feel dumb. After looking at it more closely, I was mistaking Pull Field for Singularity. They look kind of similar when Shepard uses them, except Pull Field doesn't have...you know...the singularity. Derp.
only the solder gets the assault rifle to start, but if wait until about halfway through the game any class can get the assault rifle. I would recommend either the Adept or vanguard (one could also argue the sentilal, but he isn't very good with biotics imo) and pick up the assault rifle later on.
At the beginning the vanguard is hard to 9lay but once you get it out and get all the upgrades the game becomes easy even on the two highest difficultys.🤔 And where was the Adept or did he mean DR Tsoni.
I do not understand, I finished mass effect 2 two times and I don't remember doing this mission, and i did not recruit Liara or this Kasumi... is it expansion pack? how can i buy it? i play it by Steam
lol oh nevermind i found it already 560 BW points for Kasumi's DLC and plus 800 BW points for Liara's shadow broker DLC =/ at least Zaeed DLC was for free
Two games and I still can't play vanguard. Charge is so underpowered/useless. I tried the demo with nova and I still can't kill anything. I've watched a lot of vids on Insane runs and all that comes up are speed runs. I've played the Omega missions with vg, and I still can't take out the missile vorcha and the pyros. Then I die to the krogan infinite spawns. lack of long range capability makes taking out ledge only enemies frustrating. vg needs offensive upgrade.
@FreedomPLMarcin Of course! I'm horrible with a controller and I need all available hotkeys. PC is superior is almost every way, the only advantage consoles have is they don't need to install this Origin crap :(
This is really impressive, great job! I would like to know what build of skills are you using. Do you got Stasis at Advance Training? Also I can see the not-area Charge, along Area Pull. What's the level of Shockwave?
I haven't had any issues with killing shit. You have to be strategic about where you charge and how many enemies you will have when you hit your target. It's good to have at least one sniper in your group to make up for the VG lack of range.I own the PS3 version so I already had Zaeed with me. Plus you should have shockwave which is great at taking out enemies that you can't reach with the charge.
@kelsokitten It's just the normal ME2 Vanguard (you can see the build I'm using at the end of the video). These are LotSB (DLC) fights - it's the only mission when you get to have Liara on your team (she's the one casting Singularity and Warp). I guess that might be confusing especially when you've not played this DLC. No modding except the removal of heavy weapons and Shep's appearance ;)
@Wolfwood824 I'm not casting Liara's Singularity - I'm casting Shepard's Pull Field to get them into the air (after Kasumi's Overload) and finish them off with Liara's Warp or Shepard's Shockwave. The only modding I've done is changing Shep's appearance and removing Heavy Weapons ;)
@XtremeOCer Haha, that's one of the reasons why I posted these videos. Many people were complaining about the Adept. I didn't have any issues playing (my favorite) class, the vids are to dismiss the whiners and to help anyone who does like biotics.
@joiedevivre9 Thanks ;) Vanguard is all about dying - the only way to learn! Don't worry, it might seem hard in the beginning, but when you get the hang of it things will get a lot easier and it's loads of fun.
@TheXFrame I use Slam for the early parts, but when I've got Heavy Charge and Champion/Destroyer I switch to Stasis whenever I'm taking the "caster" route - getting Pull (Field) and Shockwave makes Slam a little redundant. But Stasis is great, and only one point is required - can't go wrong with that one ;)
@Lelogogo09 Shepard has Charge, Pull Field, Shockwave and Stasis (bonus power); Liara has Singularity (Stasis and Warp). The builds can be seen at the end of the video.
@ThePwNsTaRr Just some N7 pieces. I recall I'm using the +shields torso, +power damage shoulder pads, +weapon damage arms and the default legs. It looks cool, that's what matters - the bonuses are not noticeable anyways :)
You can select whatever class you like in ME single player. Only ME3 multiplayer has an unlock system so you cannot play with every character from the starts.
Awesome as always. I didn't knew you could charge in the middle of a lightning strike XD Also 3:56 - I swear, I could hear Jacob screaming "Nothing can touch me now!!"
@Moriinsomn The ME2 Vanguard is great. Charging around never gets old (it will get you killed a lot though ;) 2nd song is "The Fire & The Fury" by Firewind
I kno it's old but in ME1 the only property of Vanguard that's short-range is shotgun, and even that has double carnage (via Adrenaline Rush) missile and pistol for long range. In fact, I just did a playthrough as Sniper Vanguard in ME1, and it's infiltrator and Soldier who can stay out of cover because of Immunity, Vanguard, not so much.
Replying to myself on a different account so my reply won't be tagged as spam... I meant Object Rho, not Project Rho. Even though I finished an entire Mass Effect 2 game - and survived all five waves in Arrival - as a Vanguard at the Insanity level, I don't consider myself a Vanguard expert. If RUclips videos are any indication, I think a number of people play a Vanguard better than I do. I died a lot playing as a kamikaze Vanguard, especially early on in the game. Practice makes perfect.
Im fairly new to mass effect finished me2 with all the quests one can possible find(including dlc) as sentinel started on hardcore until i've learned how things work then went full on insanity close to the end quite intense now im on me1 wanna have my full story ready for me3. Anyways i always wanted to play as a vanguard since i've heard it's so much more intense and now after i've seen this almost got an heart attack What's the name of the 2nd song(the rock piece)

I for one still watches it from time to time, seven years later and stil here :)

What kind of sorcery you did to have Singularity and Warp as a Vanguard?
Singularity is from liara

HOLY SHIT! Fucking EPIC battle, I may have to make a Vanguard now.... >_>

Lol when you biocharged that salarian engineer and one of his buddies fell on top of him that was hilarious XD
Great vid !!!
Looks like Engineer at 1:22 gets killed by falling corpse xD
And I see she didn't forget about Stasis. Vanguard + Stasis = win ;-)
