    I can think of five recommendations. 1. White Buffalo, a western/Giant monster movie starring Charles Bronson!
    2. the Bermuda Depths, a creepy ghost story set around the Bermuda Triangle and it has a Giant Turtle that is so damn creepy.
    3.Gamera Vs. Barugon, without a, doubt the best of showa Gamera movies
    4.The Blob (1988), an incredibly fun, gory rump that is just as good as the original if not better.
    5.THEM!, the only time the idea of giant ants has ever been done right.

    The Magic Serpent (Toei) from 1966. Fun fantasy Tokugawa era film with wizards and giant monsters!
    The Black Scorpion (Warner Brothers) from 1957. Not the best of giant monster films, but those scorpions certainly looked menacing thanks in part to the stop-motion of Willis O'Brien and Pete Peterson. New beautiful looking blu-ray has just come out!
    Q (Arkoff International) from 1982. A flying serpent is terrorizing NYC, with Michael Moriarty, at his craziest best!

    Great lists; personally, I think a lot of these movies are pretty great.
    1. Gorgo - I saw you sneak it into the honourable mentions, but I think it's good enough to stand on it's own.
    2. It Came from Beneath the Sea - Great great B-film with lots of actions and a fond place in my memories from childhood.
    3. Space Amoeba - Another fun one in the honourable mentions. Corny, but good for a laugh and good for a rainy day movie.
    4. The Beast from 20, 000 Fathoms - Another one from my childhood that burned into my brain and became the archetype of monster movies for years to come!
    5. Quatermass and the Pit - While not a fully fledged 'monster' movie, the finale involves a giant insect mirage rising up over London and destroying the city with psychic powers and making people kill each other. Very good film all round with sci-fi, drama and suspense all wrapped up into one.

      James Davies Thanks! And that's a good list you got there!

    • @Nchubbz
      @Nchubbz 6 лет назад +2

      Cheers man! Honestly, It's hard to come up with an 'original' list at this point, or film lists were people always talk about the classics; but it was good to see some variety, particularly with the Indie flicks and the Attack on Titan films. Can't say I'm a massive fan of Attack on Titan past the Manga, but they're good tokusatsu films all the same.
      That's also why I put 'Quatermass and the Pit' in mine! Britain's got some interesting B-flicks that have some brains and heart behind them;
      Lots of Hammer produced ones like; 'The Quatermass series', 'X the Unknown', 'The Abominable Snowman'.
      There's also ones like 'The Trollenberg Terror: AKA The Crawling Eye' , 'The Giant Behemoth', 'The Strange World of Planet X' and 'Island of Terror'.
      All of them well worth a watch with some star power behind them too.

    Some I'd add-
    X from Outer Space- Way more fun than I'd heard from reputation, a pretty solid alien kaiju flick with fun effects and feel
    Pacific Rim Uprising- which doesn't have the cinematography of the first (with the added note what's there is still quite impressive with the best mecha vs mecha fight I've seen in one of these movies) but has a more developed human side
    Pulgasari- Famous for it's background, it's actually pretty solid in it's own right, and another rare period piece like Daimajin
    Gamera vs Jiger- The best of the Showa Gameras but one of the more overlooked. Very cool monster design

    I haven't seen the Attack on Titan films, Ultraman The Next, Yamato Takeru, Negadon, Reigo, Daikaiju Eiga G (only film I've not heard of) and Gehara.
    Generally I like the choices presented, and the recognition of non-Japanese films like Trollhunter and 7th Voyage of Sinbad really shows that you guys have a decent level of knowledge and love for the genre, not just Godzilla.
    The 1998 Mighty Joe Young remake has great SFX from Baker, great to see it get love. I don't agree it's superior to the 1949 original.

Enjoyed every second, even though with the Subtitles distracting from the action, but necessary reading, I got everything but the end of part2, when Erin says "Now it all begins." Anyway, great suggestion, but not "War of the Gargantuas" except for the big battle between the 2 "Rock Stars,"lol. I ain't into Anime so there's nowhere to go from here for me.
