Fast forward to 1972. My corps played almost the exact arrangement of "Big Country" for our OTL. I was featured as solo baritone. Fortunately or not, there doesn't seem to be any recorded acct of this(!). It was my last yr competing before aging out. So, this came as something as a shock when I heard it! 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you, for posting this clip. It brings back great memories, when we still had Real Drum and bugle Corps. This clip is very typical of just about every drum and bugle Corps throughout the nation. Any former drum and bugle Corps member will relate to this, it represents what we all did, at a typical rehearsal. Today is October 19th 2023. It seems like yesterday, when I was a member for the Floyd Bennett golden eagles from Brooklyn New York, at one of our rehearsals like played snare drum in 1960 and 1961. Then went on to the Long Island Sunrisers 1964 through 1968.
I knew that 60's corps found a way around the 1 valve rule! During the Summertime baritone solo, I watched and heard the 1/2 step trigger in action. Such rules were made to be broken and of course soon the 2nd rotary valve became standard.
Today is April 16th 2024 it was just announced the Garfield Cadets disbanded, for good, they will no longer compete in competition. When I was in the Floyd Bennett golden eagles in 1960 and 1961 competed against them numerous times. In our second competing competition in 1960 Garfield gets invited us to their annual, Drum Corps competition. We beat the St Lucy's Cadets we came in second to last and, St Lucy's came in last place. I'm a very first competition about a week earlier we came in first place beating every Drum Corps in competition. That was an Upstate New York I believe
Hello, Scott. So many memories here of hearing the corps through the whole city during summer evenings. I was wondering if there was a member list of names? I’m trying to remember when a cousin of mine was a member. He was the drum major I believe. Larry Marquez. I was hoping to see him in this clip.
Spectacular ! My era Old Style Drum & Bugle Corps ! That actually I miss ! Not a fan of singing & props ! My brother and I played with the Kenosha, WI Kingsmen for many years, looking back I think the Kingsmen were one of the first all age corps. Being in name it was a senior corps. The 60's were great ! Nothing like the sound of bugles & drums back then !

Our Day Will Come is a great song for corps.
