Insane job!!!! 👌🏼🤙🏼👍🏼. I have being around the world working on boats and in P.R. The best place is not even close to this quality of workmanship specialty on the engines like these guys.
Looks great! I just had my bootstripe painted same color, awlgrip se stone grey metallic. It seems almost black, very dark, in paint booth, I’m worried before proceeding with the hull. Did you find it to be very dark inside, but look ok outside?
is the use of quickbuild specifically before applying the SE a must? I am about to spray this exact color in a VERY similar situation, and was going to spray it over 545, its kind of a similar situation, its going over top of fresh gelcoat (never seen outside my shop 3 months). Boat is a 2000 Action Craft that we restored and resprayed charcoal gelcoat on exterior but now the owner decided he wanted to go with the metallic after we had already gelcoated. I was going to scuff the gelcoat with 320, prime with 545 gray, scuff with 320 possibly 220 for metallic standup, then apply HDT clear or AwlcCraft 2000 Clear. I do not have any AwlQuick on hand I have 545 white or gray and Awlgrip High Build, can I not use either of those? I can obviously order the QuickBuild, but rather not wait. Also, why white primer on dark base? Seemed like it covered in 1 coat so well, could be editing though? Did they scuff the white primer? I will read TDS still but figured id go to the source first.
Hi there! You can use white 545 or Grey. We would recommend to sand P320 or P400 before applying the metallic base and coarser and you may get sand scratch grinning through. You could also hit the gelcoat with P240 before the 545. We would recommend reaching out to your local technical support rep before proceeding and to answer any further questions on this - www.awlgrip.com/sales-representatives. Thanks!
@@Awlgripfinishes I don’t have a local sales rep, I purchase all of my Awlgrip products via Donovan or West Marine Pro. I have been using your products for over 10 years and I am very impressed with all of them, however 1 thing I will say is it’s hard to get in touch with a “rep” in my experience. I appreciate the response and glad to learn I can safely use 545 rather than quick build like they did in this video. I plan to use 240 or 320 prior to applying the 545, then sanding the 545 with 400 possibly 320 before applying the stone gray metallic. I appreciate the quick response and if you guys can reach out to me with a rep I can contact in the future that would be great. I am certainly always interested in having more contacts especially if they can answer application questions such as this.

Spray full wet coats basically means the gun is working fully open with the correct recommended tip size and the paint is being applied at the maximum WFT (wet film thickness). The painter is happy to apply without running or sagging the paint, so visually no dry spray, it fully wets out when you watch it go on. We don’t want it to run but if you have a piece of dust you can see the post flow of the product and judge the correct WFT. Hope that helps!
Wet coat meaning not a tack coat. Lay it on thick so it looks wet. But, Awlgrip can quickly turn into awldrip if you’re not careful. These guys make it look easy but it’s much harder than what you see in this video.
My guess The paint job just on the hull, not including the motors was minimum $20,000. A lot of prep and man hours went into this job. That’s at least roughly what I would have charged at a minimum. And as far as the motors go, they painted those twice so I have no clue what to guesstimate the cost of that was. These guys do what I want to do, which is over the top perfectionist style work, but I can’t find employees that are worth a shit. I’m just going to go back to chartering my fishing boat because I can’t stay in business if I have 0 employees and I even pay good just the workforce is a pool of garbage seems like. That’s a whole other story though.
@@topomoto01 or not. especially if this is the quality of work he does on a boat of this caliber. Even the Freeman and Sportmans factory in town here don't finish properly. You can literally see it in their ads and videos.
@@kurtkarasch8768 please elaborate. I don’t know how you can even put Sportsman and Freeman in the same category for one, and for two, I don’t understand how you can hate on the finish in this video. They did an amazing job spraying that AwlCraft SE which is not an easy paint to spray. Then, they followed it up with the most over-the-top spraying of clearcoat. I’m not sure where you’re seeing awful, but I’d love for you to give me timestamps in the video that depict an awful finish. Who do you paint for? Are you a Marine Paint/gelcoat guy? If so, where can we see your work? I would be happy if my employees took half of the care that TRB’s employees took in this video. If you can do better than these guys and you’re located in Jacksonville, please give me a call I’ll pay you over $35 an hour. But… I have a feeling you’ve never painted a dingy let alone a boat like this.
mannnn that thing is sweet! amazing paint job

Nice. What kind of wood did you guys use?
It is paint
What do they mean wet coat? Painting without sanding in between?

Stone gray

so how much $$ was it?
