Snow Leopard Cubs Make Their First Appearance

We are bursting with pride and excitement to share a little secret we’ve been keeping for the past couple of months.
On Friday 26th April our female Snow leopard Laila gave birth to two healthy cubs. These two cheeky, funny and playful cubs are both boys, currently weighing in at just over 2.5kg each. Laila has been an absolutely sensational mum, the best we could have asked for and more! Now at eight weeks following the birth, we’re confident enough in the cubs’ progression to be able to share this wonderful news with you all.
More details will follow - for now we’re thrilled to be able to share this news with you all and we hope you are all as excited about the new members of our big cat family as we are! 🐾

Why are they being held in that small enclosure? Mothers ears are back indicates she does not trust her care takers. And all we can say is how cute they are. We are are the problem folks.

Snow leopards are extremely skittish due to their infrequent encounters with humans/other predators. They rarely even see individuals of the same species, which is part of the difficulty in managing wild populations

Interesting fact. Snow Leopards have flight instinct and there are zero recorded instances of them attacking humans. You can tell this mother really trusts the person filming her..zero agitation or aggression. This is someone she knows and likes.

Being raised to “tolerate” someone because they supply their food is what it is.
This normally solitary, mountaintop, animal wouldn’t choose to be in a tiny, dog-sized, kennel with its cubs by choice. Smh.

I remember seeing a snow leopard up close, as she was taken for a walk on the leash by the keeper. Back then I thought I've never seen an animal more beautiful. I still think so.

I saw somewhere that Cheetah cubs chirp to mimic birds in an attempt to stay hidden from predators. They are also colored to look like a honey badger as a form of camouflage bc honey badgers are notoriously vicious. This is probably a similar thing.

The way mom isn’t alarmed or anxious by the cameras shows a great deal of trust between her and the keepers, especially considering even regular cats don’t like their young out in the open rather than a den

They're extremely elusive and we can hardly survey the terrain well. Hold out hope we're wrong about their numbers.
@@elykspuz6596 yes, we can't know the numbers in the wild, for example, the Anatolian leopard a genus unique to Türkiye was trought to have gone extinct in 73 but they were caught by photo traps a few times this year their numbers increased and they became visible

As a man raising another mans child who is my world, it confuses me how much, in this narrative, u guys don't question where the fathers are. My son has none of my DNA, but if anyone tried to keep him from me they'd have the war of their lives on their hands. I would fight for my biological children just as much. If ur not in your childs life your responsibility is to fight to be in your child's life

@@q6053goes both ways, and it’s not a lack of a parent that lead kids to do that. So many kids with both parents do those things. It’s just bad parenting. And everyone knows that in most cases the mom raises the kids since men are more commonly out working and tired and because of culture. Not always but significant amount of the time
