    Games sometimes need to use unrealistic mechanics to get people to behave in a way that is more reflective of real life tactics. In Iraq, the US military fired between 250k and 300k rounds per confirmed hit on an insurgent.
    The reasons are different (no noodle arms), but the end result is the same. People are far worse at hitting shots under extreme pressure than they think, and the overwhelming number of shots people fire are just in the general direction of the enemy in hopes of suppressing them.

      Thats how progression from NOOB and EXPERIENCED player works. Each one of us shoots 250k round to kill first 100h of game.
      Thats fine.
      Why after 4000h devs come to destroy shooting putting every one is a body of 35kg man, holding a weapon w/o stock in anorexic hands?
      I served 5 years contract in French army , ingame shooting, scopes behavior ,as well as ''supression'' are bullshit. Even a green after 3 weeks on firing range acts better.
      If on missing I had to wait 6 seconds to get my hands steady to shoot an enemy I would be so many times dead already. But fuck it, from devs points of view - ITS REALISM.
      And old suppression, when your screen was going blacked is more realistic , as during extreme stress, due to blood pressure a part of your vision is balcked the very same way.
      Sry, I never got facking soap effect underfire, only in shower. And there is lot of bullshit , that is sold as ''realism''. Not only its a bullshit, but it killed the game for lot of people who spend thousands of hours in it.
      Even on beta of this rework, majority said - its bad yet, you need to work still on it, to balance it. Devs said - fuck you and just rolled it out.
      There is a mod already existing 'better combat' that patches this bullshit. And thats how updated was supposed to come out.

    My opinion, it's fantastic. I feel so much better after the games since the update, it's great.
    Tbh; they could tone down all added effects with like 20%to make everyone happy

      This though id say it should be more like 30-50%, especially the G3 is just atrocious right now. Just get gunplay to a point where it makes sense from a realism perspective i think most of the community will support that and theres gotta be a way to influence player behaivor in a more elegant way later to bring that more in line with OWI vision.

      @@sketchy5085 lets start at 20. The recoil on the G3 has always been an issue, what I mean is the sway/suppression/stamina/aiming after running time need to be a bit shorter

      @@uuldriks Yea i agree i was only refering to the sway/misalignment effects and those in my eyes need about a 50% adjustment for the G3 specifically. Theres no reason why individual marksmanship shouldnt matter in this game imo so bringing it all back to "realistic" levels seems like a decent compromise to me

    2,500hr squad nerd here since 2016. I can understand why people are angry. The game was marketed to bridge the gap from battlefield to arma. So if you bought this under that assumption and they drastically changed the mechanics the backlash imo warrented and expected. With that being said i do like the update though there are certain oversights with balance to the weapon handling. Pretty intresting to watch the community eat eachother over it.

      I would argue since the beginning of squad it’s moved closer on that bridge to battlefield than staying in the middle. I think it might have moved towards a 60-40 in Armas direction but I think that’s better than 70-30 towards battlefield. If that makes sense haha

    Drewski video example is pretty bad. You always see gun youtubers spam full auto, they say recoil is pretty low. But they never show the target result, because they didn't hit anything on 100m.

      That’s why they take bursts. Those are accurate and people do that in squad. Now ICO just made full auto completely useless

    I only have about 300 hours on the game but at first I hated the new update but then I started getting used to it and It is a hella fun had so many great games.

    loving this update, im still getting kills, but im also not getting snapshotted when i engage at distance. It's defined better. The point shoot mechanic makes hip firing more useable

    In my opinion, its really hard to nail down the real reason why suppression works in real life in a video game, that if you expose yourself you're going to get hit and probably die because dying in a game is at worst mildly annoying. I would say the blurry vision and unable to fire back effectively is a good way of making suppression work with that first point in mind that the real reason suppression is used doesnt work in games unless you're doing some one life event. I also think that making it less run and gun is a healthy change for the game because playing as a team and actually coordinating with other squads should be rewarded a whole lot more than just running and gunning like this is battlefield where you can go off and do your own thing and get 40 kills

    i fucking love it as it fits how I always play squad which is playing with my squad. I think people are more willing to play together which is always plus

    I think MGs and LMGs are a bit too hard to control even when bipoded.
    But other than that the update is fantastic, great and realistic gunplay where tactical movement and good positioning is rewarded

    I disliked most of what the update brought. The only pros imo were the reduced movement speed mid-reload, reduced left and right leaning, and the new hipfire mechanic (is not "new", that was copied from Insurgency that had it since 2014).
    Now the (major) cons were The new PIP scopes, wich have no reason to be there other then look nice and burn your GPU, since all around you gets blurred whenever you ads. The ironsights blur that a lot of people including myself get a so excessive blurr that the front sight post and target are completely blurred out, making impossible to aim. the exagerated fall damage. And at last, the weapon sway itself, saying that the weapon sway is exagerated is an understatement.
    And what I think it would be better would be removing the hands and weapon blurr effect completely so a good portion of the players can use ironsights again. Giving us the option to turn PIP on/off, where when turned on, you don't have any blur when ads, and when off, you have the tradicional scope sights but with as much blurr as when you are beeing suppressed.
    Some other things that would be welcome imo (if they wanna make it a mIlSiM so bad) is buffing the 7.62 damage, this including the AKs, G3s and PKPs and implement a movement reduction and noise when walking through brush and beeing ble to "rest" your primary weapon against edges, making it a little more stable to aim (these latter two are present in Post Scriptum).
    Now talking from my own experience, when I was 16, me and a friend were walking down a dirt road when suddenly someone started to shoot at us from uphill (I live in a third world country) about 200 meters away, we at first started to laught and just turned around and gave it a rush back to some bushes, and from there we just walked away (my guess it were some dealer though we were from a rival gang or something) and there were no "suppression" like when you get all tunnel-vision-like, for us that was kinda funny, seeing bullets hitting around us and hearing for the first time that iconic hiss, so I really think they should tone down those suppression effects

    might be better if holding breath can massivly reduce the weapon sway, and getting suppressed leads to shorter breath holding duration and smaller vision cone. based on my airsoft and competitive shooting experience.
    and there should be differences between how long can your ADS without weapon sway, you can hold a lighter rifle and handgun for way longer before your arms get tired and start swaying than when you are holding a heavier weapon.
    tbh, the tarkov's stamina - weapon sway system works pretty well.

    Mate. I’m listening to you and this is what I have to say. For a guy who served in the Australian army and went through hours of shooting this is more accurate with the sway and it’s true. You have been conditioned to think in other games that it’s so straight. Your muscles and holding a rifle upright is without sway but running around is going to have a lot of it in real life. Unless your prone or securing your stance you will have it.
    You are sadly complaining a lot but yes it is common to have quite a bit of time to take shots that are 50meters to 250meters away it’s not a run and no sway situation. If you did attempt this real life. Run into a sprint then stop and pull out your rilfle standing and then attempt to have dead straight no movement is not true it will be wildly swaying unless your leading against a wall, doorway, window side to help support your endurance fatigue.
    Also how you shot with the machine gun. You didn’t burst you just held the trigger and complained that you didn’t hit anything.
    Well no shit. We were trained as an Aussie with the F88 mini that it’s short burst of 3-5 rounds max for accuracy runs and for suppression it was 4-7 bursts. Long hold I g of the shots causes the barrel to overheat quickly with the frictions of the rounds plus having your eyes close to the scope causes what they say a red cut, which is where you cut your eyebrow and eye socket due to the kickback of the gun so the reflects are more accurate then before.
    These are much more accurate to the real life of firing and for that of you tried what you did in squad in real life yeah you probably would be looking at these kind of situations where you sway, don’t ads more hip and round off or take a bit more time to set up.
    I have played the new update and it’s great. Communication is what wins battles not Rambo’s and it’s better for it.

    i love the new update, firefights are long, harder, ambushes more effective. vehicles work with inf instead of just playing WOT.

    I wish they would make the bipod weapons more viable. There is way too much weapon sway and movement on weapons with bipods deployed. A GPMG (M240, MG3, PKM) typically weigh in excess of 20lbs and in game currently they jump all over the place. I don't mind to much what they have in place with the rifles but they could tone it down a smidge. I like how you said something on the lines of making each faction more unique with their loadouts and calibers. I've shot thousands of rounds of 5.56 and comparing it in game makes it fell like I'm shooting a cannon.

      They want you to shoot in 1-5 shot bursts. Or better yet set it to single fire if you can. The suppression is so broken right now that single fire tapping with a mounted MG will force anybody to take cover and relocate

      Agree. But its hard sometimes critiquing video game gun stuff when I have a extensive background in the real stuff. Mil doctrine is usually 5-7 rnd burst with belt feds. Any depending on the platform, usually have good accuracy, usually. And the farther the engagement range is the worse it gets and longer you have to hold the trigger down for to make it more effective.

    I try not to run out more than half my stam bar, so it doesn't feel that much slower. I just don't like how long it takes to steady your aim even at full stam.

    Weapon resting in particular should be added already, like a few major updates ago
    Games like Post Scriptum, Arma and Rising Storm and like you've mentioned Red Orchestra which is old by todays standards.
    Guns don't particularly need a bipod to rest a weapon
    All you need is an object below or even leaning up against a wall or in a prone position makes the guns more stabilized automatically and there's an icon telling you that you're resting your weapon
    If they don't want that automatic weapon resting then put a keybind that makes your weapon rest on top of a platform, hell even the new Call of Duty games has this mechanic

    Good update, atleast you can see the gun get steadied unlike in PR where u have to take your eyes off the enemy and see the bars at the bottom of the screen

    I personally think there definitely needs to be a compromise, maybe thats a hottake but just for the love of god DROP THE IDEA OF MAKING THIS ABOUT PLAYER BEHAIVOR. Most of the people currently critical of the ICO would probably support it, if the changes the ICO introduces were somewhere in the realms of reality and not forcibly overdone to artificially slow down gameplay, theres plenty of other, more elegant ways of doing that. If i personally was in charge of this update id probably tune down most of the effects like sway, misalignment and eyebox down by at least 30%, maybe even 50$ in some cases like the G3 where at 50% stamina you legit struggle to hit mansized targets at 10m, which just isnt fun or rewarding when you successfully flank somebody but then your guy forgets which way around to hold his rifle and you just loose the gunfight. Also you should stay pretty stable if youre mounted with a bipod, even under suppression.
    Just get it to a point where it makes sense from a realism standpoint and leave it at that, theres plenty of other ways to slow down engagements that to force sloppy gunplay, that just has no place in a shooter and comes across as disingenuous considering this is just effectively swapping out one unrealistic mechanic for another all in the name of immersion/realism (and new player inclusion but i find that to be a bit BS, reward people for learning the game dont pull a rust move on us please OWI).

    Pros: Suppression forces heads down because you cannot shoot back, open top vehicles actually viable, infantry can't just jump around while looking for you then snapping from 100+m away while taking fire
    Cons: The complaints, MGs are perhaps too unstable, vehicles are significantly stronger (maybe increase ticket cost/spawn times), full stamina walking ADS stability time maybe too long.
    I've had more fun with it than previously. Sure it's harder to shoot, but overall I'm enjoying it.

    I'd say you hit the nail on the head pretty well, I will say though with the m4 recoil it not too far off from reality it is a bit more jumpy in the game and the example of the m16 is not that great, m4s are a lot more jumpy than the m16 and the grenade launcher on the front of that one is also helping him control the recoil even more

    In my opinion is a good update, maybe the aiming time and the sway of the gun is a little bit exagerrated for a trained soldier, but the update isnt even a week old so maybe they will make some adjustments in the future

      Do sentry duty, get sent out on patrol, sleep for 2 hours and we'll see how stable those hands will be. You will be effective as a trained soldier, but I'll be damned if it's gonna be as good as when you're well rested, in a shooting range, with no lethal consequences if you miss your shots. B U T, it's a video game after all, I see how realism ruins games, like imagine getting shot in the arm means shooting/aiming guns one handed, fucking hell.

    Weapons don't bounce that much. Remember when you shoot a rifle you tuck it in your shoulder and it absorbs lot of the recoil. Also with your chin connected to the weapon it will never sway like this. Arma 2 really nails how it feels to shoot a rifle. And yes, I have been in the army. Squad should play some Arma. That really nails how it is to traverse around as a soldier with lots of gear.
    They could fix the "run'n gun" thing by having more realistic animations for running, crouching, prone, and bringing up your weapon to make it more slow and realistic. But shooting a gun never feels like it does in Squad. It feels just off.

    Alright so let me give my review.
    I really like the ICO. The gunplay is a lot better in my opinion and I like how it slows down movement and it gives the advantage to those who move slower and more tactically. There are a few things that would change:
    1: I absolutely agree that weapon mounting needs to be added asap. It would help people aim a little better when not in prone position.
    2: The iron sight system of kind of half aiming isn’t necessarily a bad thing but it needs to transition to iron sights needs to be a bit faster. Weapon sway needs to be reduced by about 20-25%.
    3: Vehicles have become super powerful between the suppression and the handling of rocket launchers being slow and clunky. I think that vehicles need an overhaul as well in order to make them more balanced. A few ideas would be a more realistic damage model so that a tank being hit in the side by a HAT rocket should kill crew or even one shot the tank, and/or making the vehicles have more crew (like a loader in vehicles that have them) and an interior like in Red Orchestra 2. Ammo racks should also be modeled realistically. They simply have too much “health” for the damage that infantry can inflict.

    This is literally best thing Squad could do, it's milsim in the end? Trying to make people communicate more and fight more, if you want to sniper someone 360 no scope do it on the Call of Duty

    In this update I had a match as a hat on defense for the militia against the Canadians.
    I killed
    2 Lavs
    1 of those 4x4 troop carriers
    1 tracked apc
    And 1 tank.
    I also single handedly squad wiped a group.

    I have to admit, the first couple days after the update, I wasn't happy at all. BUTTT, after I broke through my pitiful phase of resentment, I love it. I have been playing everyday since the update and once I learned what to do and, well what not to do, I've never had so much fun.

    Sorry if I'm just piling on a "but realism" dogpile....but, yeah, here goes...
    First, sway: unless you are controlling your breathing, have a nice, relaxed, firm stance and haven't been moving recently and have training and this and that, blabla, you will have a lot of sway. Less so when prone, but much more so when moving, shooting is a full body coordination. If you've ever done drills shooting while moving, you know.
    Next, suppression: it is not like a paintball. A 556 round makes the sound of someone trying to clap as loud as they can....oh, but that's its sound WHEN FULLY SUPPRESSED. The suppressors work, but the slug is violently breaking the speed of sound. So, no, it's not blinding you, but, yes, it has a stunning effect to be staring into the distance and have something loudly making little sonic booms next to your ear.
    If it was really trying for realism, half the stuff in this game would make you permanently deaf.
    Next next, recoil: If you look closely at the drewsky video, his barrel is probably swaying more than yours in the game. You just think it's worse for you because 1/100 of a degree of sway looks crazy when you know you're missing you're target as opposed to some guy generally pointing in the right direction. I've done full auto target shooting unloading whole clips. It's not easy.
    Yes, i have military/combat/sof experience.

    I fucken loved this one. My frames were oddly slightly better. Pip scopes did maybe hitch a little, but it was overall better with frames than expected. I've loved the update, and the G3 does feel very recoilly, but it's probably hard to master.

    I've found so much more teamplay needed in this game, after not being able to cod around any more. It's also equalised the playing field a fair bit. Loved the update, and a lot of the community will disagree. People will always be divided.

    I definitely like the direction. Yes, some things (suppression particularly) can feel a bit much at times but ultimately, it does what it intends to do. Which is provide more immersive, realistic feeling engagements. I think in that way, it's doing good things.

    Well,
    They said,
    In order to make as realistic as possible, they have to make it as unrealistic as possible.
    That's why the recoil, the sway and the suppression effects are that exaggerated.
    The thing is, not matter how much recoil a game has, if you put enough time into it you will master it!
    I could full auto the MK14 EBR in PUBG with an 8x without a compensator and still beam people under 50 metres.
    I you have played PUBG, you what i'm talking about 🤣
    So yeah, they increased the sway instead.
    But good players will still outplay lesser skilled players in most 1v1.
    People just need to adapt. It's not that deep.
    The game feels much much much better now.
    Because at least now people are forced to use their mics and play with the team.
    We lost the gunplay but gained back what makes game like Squad great, the team play.

      Summed it up well. It's not about realism, it's about putting the squad play back in the game titled squad lol. I quit this game a year ago because every single layer was the same shit, a good 50% of the squads were dudes that didn't say anything because they didn't have to. You could just run off and Rainbow Six Siege lean every enemy in a HAB and solo that shit yourself as a LAT. It was ridiculous. People are just mad that they have to adapt to playing as a unit again.

    I'll disagree on the notion that a solo squaddie with 20+kills isn't going to make an impact? Those 20+kills could've been 3/5 logi kills which greatly reduces the enemies tickets, so i don't understand how 20+ kills isn't better for the team as a whole vs a squad getting 20+kills as a whole.

    I’ve shot a full auto m4 in real life and the recoil is extremely controllable same with ak74. There is to much recoil effect and way to much sway when aiming

    make suppression only work if 2 or more rifle classes are shooting at you. MGs should only be able to suppress by themselves.

    This has been the update I've been waiting for so long. Squad is so much better now. To counter your arguments of weapon sway it can be a little difficult to get used to but stamina plays a HUGE role as to how you steady your aim. The soldiers you relate to can definitely mitigate recoil but your average one will always feel that initial shock of the rifle. ESPECIALLY after running a full 50-100yards which we all tend to do in the game. Fatigue is prob the number one thing that will get you killed on the battlefield. Drewski might seem like he is holding it well but how many did he get on target and secondly. That big ol 203 launcher on the front end DEF helps keep that barrel down.
    All in all it will just take a couple of hours to get used to and you will start to see more people landing shots.

    I'm loving the update, I have yet to harrass my squad into engaging in fire and move tactics but I will soon. We need to start kicking players from our squads that don't follow orders, spawn on the other side of the map, or run off solo. Great point about being able mount up on things. I'm guessing that would equalize the buff of the bipodded guns, but would definitly nerf the suppression and sway in a nice way

    The machine gunner and AT should have wayy less sway. Im ok with the spread on the machine gun is good but the sway should be turned down 90% and 50% on the rpg scopes

    Honestly I think alot of people give shit for OWI "now knowing" how the playerbase would react to the changes. and they're right. OWI didn't know how the players would react. sure there were playtests, but that's juts a small dedicated slice of the players. basically a test to make sure it wouldn't literally break servers and crash games. (one playtest was literallly unplayable because you crashed everytime you died) so I think they did the playests for those problems.
    The only way they'd know how the players would react is by giving the update directly to us. and then after, making changes based on player feedback.

      It's something the iron sights specifically do when lower on stamina or moving around. They'll transition from looking down them to looking over them. Frankly not a bad idea in concept but it should really be a toggle instead of forced.

    Ruined? I just started playing yesterday. Was amazing! I left Rising Storm 2 after I heard 83’ was cancelled (sad feelz) and decided to give squad a go and I’m glad I did. Also you’re a British 🇬🇧😂 and thanks to you we have guns in the USA 🇺🇸 bro.

    If you want to find people in squad and not get shot by the trees, you have to develop a play style that allows you to maneuver close enough to your opponent, as well as have a high degree of situational awareness

    Sorry ... to me 3D scopes make game much more laggy... I don't mind the changes but in my particular case it made the game borderline unplayable, as I can either drop down quality to complete potato or accept choppy ADS. I personally just can't handle the performance hit it's causing or a trade off with very blurry picture in scope. I guess partial solution is not using scopes just going with Irons or red dots (a bit better performance wise for me) - but I shouldn't be having to limit myself...
    So yeah I'd say it's a good change if I wasn't dropping to 20 FPS when I pull up scope from stable 70-80 FPS normally. So to me this update cause me not to want to play this game.

    Alright as an American with an awful lot of firearm experience and some limited footage of the new update I can officially say, guns dont work like that. I understand what they are going for but with full auto (my only experience is with the 7.62×39 AK platforms) you can pretty easily get 15/30 rounds on target at 50 yards or about 45 meters. And that's if you're a shit shot spraying rounds. Recoil heavily depends on your body weight, muscle mass, and firearms experience but that can be incredibly hard to emulate so from a gameplay experience perspective I completely understand what they are going for. All that being said I am NOT a professional shooter it's just a major hobby of mine and I have no experience with squad pre or post update, just a little food for thought based off the gameplay I've seen from Nano, Drewski, you and a few others.

    At 3:13, thats one of the issues, now flanking is very much useless, because you ran a bit and u can't even aim properly a pistol, and don't bs me, it does not take that long after a quick run to be able to at least stabilize the gun decently, specially an assault rifle (light like an m4) or a pistol, in 4 seconds the weapon sway was the same as the balance of a drunk dude and he missed all the shots. Also scopes like the ACOG, SUSAT and every variant thats a higher zoom are basically impossible to use unless u just don't move at all and even still, u gotta hold your breath and landing the 2nd or 3rd shot is gonna be hard

    The recoil, whereas maybe slightly heavy, isn't that crazy. You are not going to be able to keep a full auto gun on a man sized target at 100 yards unless you are freakin superman... especially off hand. Sure Drewski looked stable and he was putting all the rounds down range, but if you were to actually see his hits at any legit range and it would be all over the place. Plus this is simulating combat where you are not shooting from the most ideal positions while being all jacked up on adrenalin and not a flat range where you can be fully locked in all the time.

    finally about time, tbh it's a bit embarrassing that it took OWI this long to stop this identity crisis. but hey atleast they're making good steps in the right direction (much like the Militia rework so they're not Ins/Rus copycats)

    i dont have a lot of hours on squad (461.3) but i really dont like the update, i've never considered myself a cod fanboy or anything, i mostly play milsim games but they just butchered the gunplay on this update tbh, some weapons are straight up useless like the G3 for example, the people who defend the ICO can't even handle critisism because as soon as someone has a different opinion they attack them inmedeatly calling them ''cod players who lean spam and tryhard''.
    Squad was already a pretty good game before the ICO, i've never viewed it as a arcade FPS but as a teamworks and tactics game, but now its unplayable with multiple graphical bugs that ruin the gameplay (like scopes not working, depth of field being to intense or bullets straight up going trought enemies), i really like where OWI is going with this update but was it really necesary to butcher the gunplay? the PiP scopers are fine i guess, the supression is ok but the guns are so terrible to use right now and vehicles are so overpowered.
    There's so much tactical shooters that dont exagerate the recoil and suppresion and they are still pretty ''inmersive'', its only new players who can barely play the game that like the update

    For me there is too big of a gap between max vs min stamina and max should be the starting point of course. Also It would be nice if any major sway changes will not apply unless 50% of stamina or under. The game should punish for constant sprinting but not for just movieng around/walking.
    What I utterly dislike about the suppression is that ir blurrs entire screen which makes me feel so uncomfortable and gives eye strain. There should be like a circle in the middle that is not blurred.
