The cup noodles one killed me, but what made it better for me, is i took a photo of it. The problem is, at the end of the game, they make you pick a photo for an incredibly emotional moment, and it was the *only* photo i had. And at the time, they didn't let me pick anything else. So in the highly emotional ending scene, the final scene in the game, this king of all kings was staring longily at a picture of cup noodles

I genuinely was laughing my ass off the entire mission. It was product placement, but they definitely played it for laughs

And if you paid attention to the pre-launch commercials as well, they even had a remake of one of the commercials in which Cup Noodles is featured heavily everywhere, including, if I remember correctly, Leviathan coming out of some Cup Noodles 😂. And you can hear the sarcasm in Gladio's voice (at least in English, I never cared to play the game in any other language). That segment wasn't cringe, it was gloriously hilarious.
Besides, around that time, the Assassin's Festival was out and we saw that Noctis geeked out WAY harder over Assassin's Creed than Gladio over Cup Noodle.
yeah it felt very deliberate to poke fun at product placement. And honestly it worked! I couldn't stop thinking about the delicious taste of Cup Noodles after! GENIUS!
Okay, but Buzz Aldrin sounds REAL, like an actual grandfather speaking too his granddaughter, and that's what MAKES the whole scene.

For 2k15 a vast majority of the bad dialogue is from the actual nba players themselves. It was honestly a great idea, but you can’t expect someone who dedicated their life to be an athlete to also excel at voice acting.
We should expect them to put more effort into their halfass mumble especially when they get paid so highly.
I mean, how hard is it to put emotion in your voice lol? Do athletes not know how to talk like a normal human?
@@nono-ch8oy Some of these guys reading levels aren’t the best. Not to their fault but a failing societal issue, however that’s a different conversation. They were probably just paid to show up and go through the lines once or twice and that’s it.

That Cup Noodles moment on FFXV reminded me of The Truman Show's scene where his wife interrupts their argument to advertise the Nicaraguan coffee.
Number 7 isn’t that bad imo. Buzz Aldrin. He’s literally living his twilight years. He won’t be with us much longer. So finding a way to leave his mark on one of the greatest space exploration game series in the last 20 years only makes sense. I get that he’s not a professional actor, but I found it touching.

In this case I feel like they should've just do it organically. Sit him down in s recording booth with a mic in front of him and have a kid ask him questions. Cut and edit accordingly and you'll get something genuine and touching cuz it's really him saying this to a kid.
Yeah I don't see what's wrong with it. It is kind of a weird scene, but there's nothing cringe or embarassing about it.
I think the problem is that you need to know the context behind the scene to understand why it's touching. Otherwise it just sounds like a random grandpa, who obviously doesn't know how to voice act, reading random lines.
Like, sure, once you know is one of the most important people in the history of space exploration, it takes a completely new meaning.

I really liked Leliana’s song. It was the little weird things like that which really made the game memorable for me. That experience has stayed with me in ways even Witcher hasn’t.

For it's time it is a game that, although imperfect, still is better than a LOT of "modern" games. I only have to name "Gollum" and the latest "epic" Skull Island: Rise of Kong to illustrate what I mean...
Descent was incredible. It's got all the claustrophobic tension of a survival horror combined with fast-paced doom-like FPS shooting and mind-bending all-axis space flying gameplay. Layer on some wicked 90s sci-fi visuals and you've got a 10 outta 10. Who am I kidding, Descent IS incredible! A must play to this day.
I had no issue with Buzz Aldrin’s dialogue in Mass Effect 🤷🏾♂️. He just sounded like an old man talking to his grandkid to me.
I think the cause of the issue with that one was more like inconsistent hardware setup for the recording. His voice didn't sound like it was recorded using the same settings and hardware used to record the rest of the dubbing of the game.
Yeah that was about the least of the problems with that game. Compared to picking three different colored endings that all effectively annihilated the universe and characters you loved (I know they retconned some of it later with a lame slideshow, but still), hearing Buzz was fine.

Yeah I didn't agree with that one. At least not at 6. I mean number 10 was the cringiest of the whole list to me. Mass Effect was not worse than the NBA game.

Lol I'm from America and thought the same. I can't stand Ramen noodles or pretty much any of the microwavable noodles so don't really know any of the brands.

i loved the cup noodle shit haha.also depending on which ingredient you pick, you go on a quest to find it. i had to raid a giant bird nest for some eggs so Gladiolus could have them with his cup noodle. it goes so beyond ridiculous that it becomes hilarious

With the two Bioware games, I actually didn't find them cringey when they came out, certainly not to the extent of everything else in the list.
I actually liked Leliana's Song upon first playing, since it was at the culmination of everything, & you just had to appreciate that the technology wasn't quite there but they did what they could with it. It's cringey now, for sure, but that's a different story.
ME3...as you said, if they'd stuck the ending, the scene would be ok. So, I can't really cringe at the scene when it's really just anger from the poor ending.
Neither are to the level of forced & awkward QTE sex between characters who are clearly 40yo virgins (despite one of them having had 2 kids), necessary in order to get the best ending. Or forced & awkward QTE stripping. Or suuuper awkward QTE showering for both male & female leads. That game was super fun playing in front of my visiting dad... lol
Dragon Age Origins, the lip sync not matching the song ... I've replayed that game half a dozen times, never even noticed.
I totally forgot about the Leliana dlc. I also enjoyed that. I even really liked Dragon Age 3 and looking forward to da4 if it ever gets released😎

There's this skit from Key and Peele where they mimic this, though the joke was about how athletes don't express anything original when being interviewed and it's always generic mumbled fluff about teamwork, working hard, playing a good defense...and those are the answers no matter what was asked 😂

I thought the entire point of Gensis was that he WAS cringe. He's suppose to be that insane, overly dramatic type that makes you want to facepalm, even by the standards of the world/story.
But then at the same time, has the power to actually back it up.

That is a very good point.
Let alone the fact that Cup of Noodles uses like bottom of the barrel ingredients(they are less then $1 each at a store). Literally trash tier ingredients while Ignis makes top chef dishes that would make any real world chef jealous. Gladiolus makes Cup of Noodles sound like it is like caviar or the epitome of flavor when they barely count as food, it's when you can't afford real food that you get Cup of Noodles or Ramen.
Because a literal chef praising cup noodles would be too much even for them? I mean...maybe.

Gonna have to disagree with the Stargazer. Having Buzz talk about space and stars is a perfect end to a series like ME. With the main theme heard from the FIRST game's main menu playing behind him, it was a nostalgic sendoff.
There's a mod that someone made for the voices in the early Megaman x games where he got both the voices of X and Zero from X8 and it's fucking beautiful. I'm so happy they literally voiced the lines for a modder.

Heh. I know of one that's awkward even for gamers, lol. Chapter 9 of Final Fantasy 7: Remake. You get to a part where Cloud can be given a hand massage (the choice made I believe affects either his later outfit in that chapter or Aerith's). If you pick the luxury massage, you pretty much listen to Cloud have an orgasm over a hand massage 😅. When he finally walks out and returns to the waiting room (which takes him a moment), he does this feather-light sweep against the wall with his hand, clearly blissed out of his mind, lol. You would not want anyone walking in on that moment.

FFXV Cup Noodle placement was elite. That whole dialogue was premium content and I distinctly remember standing up and clapping for it after it was over. An acid trip without the acid.

Leliana's Song (Number 9) is not gibberish! Its elvish (Elven Song of Mourning). You can find the codex translation to english in the game.
Yeah, I recall seeing the lyrics in a book in the game, there’s enough Elvish spoken to get the gist that it’s sung around the time the ancient elves would enter eternal sleep iirc.
I actually liked that bookend to Mass Effect, but it obviously would've been more resonant if Andromeda was better. Andromeda was the perfect "this series can continue forever like Final Fantasy" idea and well...we saw how that turned out.
If Andromeda was fantastic, that bookend to Shepard's story would declare him as a Martyr to inspire space travel for the next century for boy and girls in the milky way to exceed past the initial series.
They're making another mass effect game as we speak. Hopefully it will be better then Andromeda
The Cup Noodles quest felt like a weirdly "Truman Show" moment, for me. Still cringe, don't get me wrong, but I was running through the game for extended periods, so I'm pretty sure I laughed at the overt switch in tone. Glad this was brought up, because I'd almost forgotten all about it. ATLANTICA IS NEEDED FOR THE BEST WEAPON!! The crafting material you get is necessary for the Ultima weapon, so you have to sit through it.

James Arnold Taylor's VA work was the sole reason I couldn't take the character of Tidus seriously. It really broke my investment and immersion in the story.

The voice acting and dialogue in that game is funny and memorable, almost every single line in that game is essentially poetry.

SO MUCH YES on the Cup Noodle quest. I absolutely love Final Fantasy XV, but that one specific quest and the dialogue that goes with it just makes me want to crawl under a rock. It is just so awful, and then you have to do it multiple times if you want to 100% fill the bestiary because two of the monsters you have to fight to get the special ingredient are unique-named variants of pre-existing monsters that have their own individual entries in the bestiary rather than being lumped in with their more common counterparts.
Leliana's song is one of my fondest memories of Dragon Age Origins. So your cringe is not my cringe, mate.

Did not occur to me at the time that “The Ultimate Flavor Experience” was a serious ad when I played FFXV, but I greatly disliked Gladiolus for the rest of my play through and this explains why.

The advertising in the cup Noodles quest obviously didn't work because I totally forgot about it until you just reminded me and even when I was doing the quest I wasn't itching to buy some real ones. The problem with advertising this blatant in a game is that it always comes across as paid promotion and product placement and we all hate that especially gamers considering we paid for the product in the first place. I'm sure the Publishers got a lot of money for dedicating a whole quest to a real world product though.
Number 6: JASOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNN in the middle of the ending is hilarious, you can press x to jason in one of the endings, but if you press x throughout the rest of the mission and and through the cutscenes, it still works, it's a glitch, and it's funny

I love Kingdom Hearts and I play through the games a few times a year but I always skip KH2 Atlantica. Only reason to ever go through that torture is to get a synthesis material needed for Ultima Weapon.

I’m honestly shocked you didn’t have any Resident Evil in this list. There are so many moments to pick from. Possibly the most ridiculous being: Steve struggling to deal with his zombie father in Code Veronica 😂
In the case of Kingdom Hearts 2, the overly long “sacrifice” of Ansem the Wise was also pretty cringeworthy. He talked and warned FOREVER, then his device exploded completely on queue instead of “at any moment”. Worst time for monologuing, ruined the story flow.

The Little Mermaid in Kingdom Hearts 2 is an example of a good idea gone bad. Overly simple rhythm game with bad original songs, but based on The Little Mermaid of all things. And you need it to make the Ultima Weapon.
Needs to be the next series of videos at Gameranx. Anytime we get moments of Falcon unable to contain laughter, I'm in.

You would've laughed playing it as well! I think more people understood the comedy of it than those who were straight up mad about it. Falcon here is in the minority, and it's certainly his opinion to have. But Square Enix also had a revised version of a launch trailer that also pretty much threw Cup Noodle placement all over the place so they DID prepare the public and show how silly they were being (but of couse, yes, please buy some Cup Noodle, lol). By the time Gladio gets to the hilarious "Ultimate flavor experience!" line, it's pretty clear the segment isn't taking itself too seriously.

Another game that deserves a mention is Fahrenheit aka Indigo Prophecy also from Quantic Dream. The scenes from that game could fill this whole list.

Everyone talks about Volition, but nobody remembers the punisher. That was my favorite game as a teenager with a very limited game library but over 100 punisher comics. It captured the character so well, bad guys were corny but had some genuinely funny moments (blows off Italian mobsters leg, mobster crab walks backwards with 3 remaining limbs and says “shit, shit, shit! It’ll grow back right?😂), and over 300 different special kills and interrogations that were super savage. Personal classic that no one knows about.

Not to ruin a cringe moment (Genesis is super cringe) but re: Crisis Core, the apple thing at the end actually has a reason (I think). If you look at the note (I think it's a note?) when you enter Genesis' old place, where they were making dumbapple juice or something. He wrote a note as a kid saying his dream was sharing a dumbapple with the Hero Sephiroth or something. I think that part is a callback to that. That's why Zack says something like "Sorry I'm not the real thing" or something. I can't remember all the details.

Descent: Freespace ironically has my favorite opening cutscene of all time. The graphics are *rough* but I still get chills! RIP Volition 😢

I think a good voice director makes a lot of difference when having celebrities do voice acting.
It's certainly possible to have people that are inexperienced in voicework still put in a decent performance, if there's a good director to guide them.
The fact Buzz was part of one of the best space dramas. I have never seen the ending comepletely cringe.
I feel like you could fill a top 50 list with just games from this last 10 years alone. I'm genuinely surprised nothing from the quiet man, gollum, ride to hell retribution, or that weird awkward sex scene in the last of us 2 with abby getting plowed by one of the devs. I think my soul left my body I cringed so hard.
there is also one good scene in the original Nier. while in the japanese version, you play a young boy, in the western release they changed it to a father. so when the scene comes, where the protagonist explains to Kaine, why he helps her, you get this old dude shouting at a 16 year old girl "IT IS BECAUSE WE ARE FRIENDS" ....
definitely works better with the ten year old protagonist...
I disagree entirely about the stargazer opinion 😂 I feel the voice acting was done very well and I don't feel it's cringy at all just vague and mysterious 😅 it honestly felt like they were doing a "mass effect will return" kind of thing 🙂 just my opinion though coming from someone that loves the endings at least with the extended cut

I wanna include for anyone who's played GTAV Online: the scene at the end of the Dr. Dre mission where Dre and Paak jam out to the song-created-after-killing-buncha-baddies. And the player's like "yeah, nice. Cool song-" only to be interrupted by Paak who wants to "run it back" and you end up having to listen to the song again with odd shots of 3d animated characters 'feeling' a song in a room together. It was so uncomfortable and not skipable.
Call me weird, but I just LOVE the Stargazer coda. I don't know why, but the theme song and start sky crate such a peaceful atmosphere! Also, since I prefer the destroy reapers ending, it just seems to fit so well for me. All relays are now gone and grandpa Stargazer sits there with his grandson telling him Shepard's story. Since there are no more relays, going to the stars is such a distant, yet desirable concept for the child. I don't know, if this scene is so weird then maybe I'm also weird too.
I love the quick quippy language. I don't know if it was invented with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I think that probably brought it to popularity. I still enjoy that kind of dialogue. It may not be "realistic", but everything I see it in isn't representing the "real" world, so I don't see what the problem is. Really the only thing that I felt was cringe was the FF commercial for cup noodles. Most of what you covered was not...great dialogue, but it wasn't beyond awful.
Let's just say that it's just a victim of oversaturation by this point. It works in Buffy, it works in Doctor Who (it helps that the Doctor is alien, and is established to not get how humans speak at all), it works in Merlin (the repartee between Merlin and Arthur in the 2008 TV series), it works in the MCU (when they're not being stupid about it, as in bits of Phase 4), it works for Dragon Ball Z Abridged, and it works in Hi-Fi RUSH. The problem is when people assume that it works all the time; as Forspoken and the Saints Row reboot show, it doesn't.
