Great point of view on the cams. I like the questions you had at the end; really helped me make a decision and the extra $125 is worth it! I like the IS on the 6 and the 120FPS at a higher quality was the biggest factors in making my decision.
Hey man, I am subscribing to your channel but I have a question. I own a gopro hero 5 sessions. What difference do you think hero 6 black can make?I only use 1080p 60 fps Linear mode for blogging. It is all fine but when I run the IS wasn't satisfactory. Do you think GoPro hero 6 will make a big difference? Also, how much better the audio quality? Sorry for the long question but I am really looking for an answer.
the black 6 has a bit more color saturation. It is more noticeable when u show night test. If u edit the files of black 5 with a bit more saturation u get the black 6 look
I bought the Hero 5 because of the lower cost. And honestly, if I wanted real image stabilization, I would use a gimbal in conjunction. I got it mainly for capturing my fishing action videos and the water-proofing makes it a godsend over the older models. Colour wise, there might be differences over the 6, but the cost of the 6 is way too high to make it worth it.
LOVE the literally side by side comparison! Most times, the comparison is different times of the day or different scenes altogether. This is an apples to apples review. Great job!
FWIW, the Hero 6 uses electronic image stabilization, not optical image stabilization. If you want the superior optical stabilization, you'll have to get the Sony X3000 or a select few others.
I just purchased a GoPro Hero 5 camera from Sams Club because they were having a special Mother’s Day bundle for $249. For that price, I got the Hero 5, an extra battery and a charger, and micro SD card (16 GB) . I am planning on using it for interviews-not extreme sports.
Gopro 5 and 6 are now 150 and 180 usd at Amazon, refurbished. I have a yi lite that use it only for holidays that I want to upgrade. I don't know if I should go for a gopro 5 or 6, or neither of them and stick with yi. Any advice?
I really enjoyed your closing remarks. Very concise summary depending on personal needs/preferences. Nice frames you've got on, too. I'm not going to share this video with my friends since I haven't heard of any of them doing as extensive research in action cameras as I have, but I'll certainly drop a like and subscribe.
I like that you had the questions at the end. I’m still on the 3+ black because I frankly don’t use it all that often but I’ve been toying with the idea of upgrading. Deciding between the 5 and 6 turned out more difficult that I thought. The 5 seems great in a lot of ways relevant to me but the 6 has the upper hand in a couple of instances. Kind of comes down to image stabilization and price for me. Just gotta decide whether the image stabilization is worth the price jump for what I’ll be using it for. Nice review!
I am VERY NEW to all this. Been road Bicycling for over 30 years. I have been using FulGaz for indoor cycling. I want to be able to upload video of my rides to use later and share on the FulGaz site. QUESTIONS: 1. when the battery gets low, can I swap out the battery with another and still keep my place in recording or will it erase what I had and start over ? I won't be using the GoPro for professional purpose, but it will be mounted on my bicycle handlebar. Should it be ok for stable video? 2. This may sound stupid, but do I need to format the Micro SD card before putting it in the camera, and, can it be formatted while in the camera or on the computer? Thanks!
Great review. I''m thinking about buying a set of action cams for static use, to cover more of the stage in my theater & orchestra shoots, and so I'm weighing "cheaper + more" cameras (like the AKASO V50, or Yi 4K, or refurbed GoPro sessions), versus "better but fewer" cameras (like the Sony AS300, or GoPro H5/6/7). I REALLY noticed the image quality gain in your demos for H6 vs. H5. (I have one H5 which gives decent-not-stellar results, when used wisely.) And the big deal with H7 is all stabilization, which I don't need; so I can save $130 bucks by dropping back the H6. The H6's better dynamic range (vs. my H5) and less grain in low light are super useful for my theater work. So now it's down to five Yi 4K's at 5x$105 each (NOT the Yi 4Kplus at $200 each), vs. two GoPro H6's at $250 each. Decisions, decisions.
Hey There, Love your Comparison, Can you please Suggest me some thing I Generally Do music Videos, Do you think Hero 6 will be a good idea to use with my Setup for 4K and Slow Motion, How do you Compare with the Quality? If a footage from DSLR and Hero 6 Both Added up and made a Music Video will it provide some good Quality ? Thanks In Advance PS I havn't use any of Action Camera Before Only DSLR Planning to Buy Hero 6 Only For My Music Video Shoot as it has 4K @ 60 fps and 1080 Slow mo , and ofc i'll buy gimble ,but first need to make sure about if quality if up to mark,
Hey man. I'm a DJ and I want to buy a GoPro to record the club/lounge environment e.g the crowd, my DJ gear , myself posing with the people and stuff. Which one do you guys suggest for low light club environments.
One thing that was missing from the comparison...+ question: If I'm shooting in HD (1920) how significant is the difference between 5 vs 6 while IS is on?
Sorry for not comparing that. But it is still quite different. I found the 6 to be much smoother and it should be. They have some advanced smoothing going on on the 6 that isnt there on the 5
Hi i have just ordered a go hero 5 as the 6 is alot of money but i have just found it cheaper on another site Betwin the 2 camera which one is better for recording go karting and for rideing a push bike on road and in parks ???
Good review .. I have owned a hero 5 for about a year and live the quality of the footage BUT the audio quality is to say the least is waste of time .. Have GoPro made any improvements to the audio in the hero 6. If they have improved the audio in the hero six I would be very tempted to upgrade the six ..
Nice video! Quick question, when you're running around doing the tests, are you using just a standard grip handle? I've been looking at a gimbal but don't know if it's worth it due to the hero 6 having a good image stabilisation. Thanks
I believe they are VERY similar. The 6 has more saturation, yes, but everything else is pretty much the same. Your focus is 4K, 4K, 4K, but really file sizes of 4K are big and I would personally shoot lower anyway and Hero 5 and 6 are even more alike at 1920 HD with IS. Great questions at the end. I liked your review.
Yes sir, image stabilization at 4K 30fps & superwide is what I like. It's a bummer this doesn't apply to 4K 60fps isn't a deal breaker though HEVC codec isn't supported on my PC either, I use Windows Media Player plugins but it plays back like slow motion without audio. This is my first action camera & I'm super stoked with the overall performance & built quality, cheaper cameras doesn't live up to the same standards.
Can you use the GoPro for the indoor videos as well or just for outdoor/vlogging? If so, is it worth it to buy the Hero6 if I mostly do indoor vids? Or do you recommend something differently entirely, like the canon rebel T6i
Im half way in and really love this review! As a tech reviewer myself i can see the effort put in! Shame the 5 wasnt working to full standard tho but really good to see the results. Got a 6 coming to me shorty hence why i come accross your video! Keep up the great work. Subbed
Enjoyed the review, i have the go pro hero 4, the downside is all videos and pics have like a fish eye view, bends at an angle, which cant be altered, seems the hero 5 and 6 has same, can this be changed in settings on the 5 and 6
Colin Prosser there are a few setting on the camera that get rid of or decrease the fish eye look so you don’t have to use a plugin or change it in post. The field of view (FOV) setting that gets rid of the fish eye look is called Linear. The FOV setting Superview and Wide have the most extreme fish eye look. Medium and Narrow FOV have the least fish eye look only bested by the Linear setting which seems to get rid of it altogether. I just bought the GoPro 6. My last GoPro was a 4 silver. I’m still learning a lot. I hope that helps. If the fish eye look is your biggest barrier to buying the GoPro 6 it shouldn’t be as a simple setting change eliminates the problem.
Thanks Robert, mines the hero 4, which dont have Linear in setting, i have tried several settings, the fish eye view can be a pain at times, when to close to moving objects, have checked the settings and its on medium, and have now set to narrow, will try it out tomorrow, thanks for tips
I'm planning to buy a gopro but don't know which of these 2 should I get.. I'm looking after of the image and video quality without even using photoshop.. Nice review btw. 👌
Hey! Just subb'd along. Appreciate the comparison. I got a 6 in the cart rn and about to order it up. My only other Gopro is the session (1st gen). So excited for this to add to my Vlog setup!
Awesome Daniel! Thank you so much! Yes the 6 is truly the best GoPro I have ever used and I know you're going to love it! I recommend you check out "TubeNoob" channel. He has some really genius vlog setups with the GoPro. ruclips.net/video/eAW_FD2ltOs/видео.html
Thank you Adrian! Other than the GoPro shots I used my Canon 80D with 18-135mm. I didn't do any color grading to the image and shot using the EOSHD Cine 4 Profile for Canon.
Lol! I get all my glasses off zennioptical.com. Super cheap prescription glasses. These are the exact frames that I have www.zennioptical.com/p/johnson-round-eyeglasses/44200?skuId=4420023
Bit of an unfair comparison with the 5 not working correctly. If the image processing is skewed with lines in the highlights of the 5, you have to wonder what else is wacky with it.
This is one of the first videos I made on RUclips ever. I think it’s over five years old. Not sure if it’s relevant to say anything about this vid now in 2022. Sorry if some of the content wasn’t good and I agree with what you’re saying. I was a RUclips newb at the time.
If you know that h5 hardware have an issue ("zebra" lines), how do you know if whole image performance of yours 5 is not reduced? This test can be thrown straight into the garbage. No gear review channel would allow this. Comparing issue-free hardware with a one that is not.
why is the 5 looking worse than all the other 5 videos on the tube that i looked at when trying to decide to go from the 4 to the 5...... too much trickery, no it's colors are not washed out because the 6 is that much better BS
We are a brand new gear review channel. Please subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

Everything about the 6 is better, Maybe not the exterior design but pretty much everything else! I just ordered mine I cant wait!

I've never owned a Gopro. I'm trying to decide if i should buy the Gopro 5 since it's on sale for $239 or go for the 6 instead.
Ehhhh ya it’s tough. That’s a good deal. Maybe buy the GoPro 5 and if it isn’t good enough for you, return it and buy the 6
Kinotika, this is a good idea. Don’t loose the receipt
You Got a thumps up from me. Off topic. What brand is your glasses, and where did you buy them? Thanks :)

Betwin the 2 camera which one is better for recording go karting and for rideing a push bike on road and in parks ???
There is no OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) on hero 6 as you've said at 2:10, only EIS
Correct. My bad there. I wasn't paying attention.
What if you have a hand held gimbal and you can get a new 5 black for 200 bucks would you do that over a new 6?
Good review .. I have owned a hero 5 for about a year and live the quality of the footage BUT the audio quality is to say the least is waste of time .. Have GoPro made any improvements to the audio in the hero 6. If they have improved the audio in the hero six I would be very tempted to upgrade the six ..
Damn this was going to be my big deciding factor for stabilization the 6 destroys the 5 in that area.
Nice video! Quick question, when you're running around doing the tests, are you using just a standard grip handle? I've been looking at a gimbal but don't know if it's worth it due to the hero 6 having a good image stabilisation. Thanks

Thank you for your kind words! We sent the camera into GoPro and they gave us a new one since then!
Wonderful Review! Thanks.
Enjoyed the review, i have the go pro hero 4, the downside is all videos and pics have like a fish eye view, bends at an angle, which cant be altered, seems the hero 5 and 6 has same, can this be changed in settings on the 5 and 6
Totally. I recommend using a plugin to correct that distortion
Thanks Kinotika, the distortion is a pain, and cant be altered, what plugin is recommended to correct this
Colin Prosser there are a few setting on the camera that get rid of or decrease the fish eye look so you don’t have to use a plugin or change it in post. Is it work hidden camera type workking am TV reporter so sting operation vedious caughts so plz guide me
AWESOME VIDEO! 👍🏾
I'm planning to buy a gopro but don't know which of these 2 should I get.. I'm looking after of the image and video quality without even using photoshop.. Nice review btw. 👌
Go with the 6. Better color science
depends on your purpose. What are you using it mainly for?
Thank you for the excellent video and review !
Thanks Jason!
Great style of comparison
Which camera did you use to film the main video?
Canon 80D
How is the image stabilization on the hero 5 at say 1440p?
Also nice review sir :)
Its great from 2.7k all the way down!
Does the 6 have a place for a external mic?
How can you accurately review something you know has a hardware failure? Why wouldn’t it effect more than just the sky?
Hey! Just subb'd along. Appreciate the comparison. I got a 6 in the cart rn and about to order it up. My only other Gopro is the session (1st gen). So excited for this to add to my Vlog setup!

Great video! But the audio is better on Hero6 as well?
Not necessarily. About the same unfortunately
Nice! Very high production quality and good content. Keep it up! What editing software did you use and what camera?
Thank you Adrian! Other than the GoPro shots I used my Canon 80D with 18-135mm. I didn't do any color grading to the image and shot using the EOSHD Cine 4 Profile for Canon.
could i know your brand of glasses?
Lol! I get all my glasses off zennioptical.com. Super cheap prescription glasses. These are the exact frames that I have www.zennioptical.com/p/johnson-round-eyeglasses/44200?skuId=4420023
Kinotika haha thanks! Like yr style. Are they prescription glasses ?
I want to buy a go pro.. which do you preffered? Thanks
If you have the money, go for the GoPro Hero 6 Black..but if you're on a budget, get the Hero 4 Black. Same internals as the 5 black and a lot cheaper
You really know your stuff! Amazing and super helpful video, I subscribed!
Thank you sarahhhhhhhhhhhh
They told it's 5% crop... well, in fact it's 12% crop. Check on iPhonedo review or in Premiere.
The 6 looks much cleaner and much more
Bit of an unfair comparison with the 5 not working correctly. If the image processing is skewed with lines in the highlights of the 5, you have to wonder what else is wacky with it.

Any freezing problems?
Not that I noticed!
What is better go pro hero 5 or 6
excellent video and review :)
Awesome, a Gopro 6 with bad update vs a deffective Gopro 5.
Great video - you've got a new fellow Nashville area subscriber!
Awesome!
Nice review!
subscribed. good work ...
I think you should
What if you don’t own a GoPro? I mostly want it to film family activities, water parks, beach, bike rides.
iPhones are great! No need for gopro
6 seems over saturated!!
How do you colorgrade GoPro Hero 6?
With knowledge from color grading central
The image stabilization is optical on 6? I thought it was digital
No its digital! Did I say optical? My bad...
Kinotika i thought it was Electronic IS ??
Good review and subbed. I need another gopro for my videos.
Thank you so much! GoPros are always valuable to have
complete review and make me sure to get 6
Amazing review man………..keep going
Thanks brother! We will!!!
Just ignore the 'lines' in our review on the GOPRO 5!! LMAO Should have waited bro!
If you know that h5 hardware have an issue ("zebra" lines), how do you know if whole image performance of yours 5 is not reduced? This test can be thrown straight into the garbage. No gear review channel would allow this. Comparing issue-free hardware with a one that is not.
The image is identical to a functional GoPro 5. The only issue with it was the zebra lines. Everything else is the same.
also the 5 gives better picture quality as well and hero 6 battery also swell as well !
damn the battery swells? oh dear me not another Note 7 swelling exploding battery fiasco
Nice video 😎🤚🏻
I just need something to capture things that may result in evidence. This will work.
For a moment I thought you were Jesse Wellens who was from PVP. Also Great video btw :)
Lol! Ive got that before. Thanks!
Actually the hero got a little upgraded
Im still using the 1st gopro. Hahaha. I definitely need a new one.
Nashville!!!
Yaaaa!
I 'll go for hero 6 by far better colors
Thanks
Nice job
5 for the win
Good job mate
Cheers Alex!
hero 6 has better color the color is more punchier and hero 6 has also a bit more dynamic range
hero 5 better
What makes you decide on that?
over-saturation on the 6
Yeah, Hero 5 better. More natural, clean, looks real.
Nah 6 is better
why is the 5 looking worse than all the other 5 videos on the tube that i looked at when trying to decide to go from the 4 to the 5...... too much trickery, no it's colors are not washed out because the 6 is that much better BS
Hope gopro isn't doing the same as apple
making a review with faulty equipment?
Due to our fast turn around time its the best we could do. Im sorry if this makes you upset.
Need a lot more to make me upset, just saying it is difficult to take a reviewer serious when he use faulty equipment for a test like this.
great job man)
comparing with a defective camera
Yup. Unfortunately due to the timing of everything we had to continue with it. GoPro sent us a new one.
hey sir nice video👌👌
Wow! You watched that fast
Kinotika Media : notification sir
Thank you for subbing! Really appreciate it :)
Kinotika Media thaxx😊
😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😁😀😀😀😀😀😁😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
am i the only one who thinks he's handsome?
i dont even need 4k cause my computer is s**t
Hero 5 pictures are more natural
Pointless video. How can you do a comparison if you know 1 of the camera is faulty.
Can someone give me a free GoPro? 🥺😅. Btw I'm serious 😐.
