I am preparing to care for my mother-in-law after her TAVR. You are both so helpful. Her procedure will not be at Piedmont so know you are serving many others with accurate helpful information.

Relatively good summary as to what to do & look out for after a TAVR. What I find works well is when patients aren’t just given a list, but an explanation as to each list item, as Amy the PA did in the beginning, and what the RN did regarding SOB after the procedure.

I am 73 years old and just had theTAVR valve replacement surgery 1 month ago. The hospital stay was overnight & I checked out the next day. There was a slight delay as a result of the incision bleed of the groin. The groin incision must clot completely before getting out of bed. Pain was not an issue for me. There was no immediate change in my energy. Actually, I felt about the same before & immediately after the surgery. After 1 month, I am still feeling about the same. I didn't have any severe symptoms before or after the surgery. I was fairly active before the surgery but am just now trying to become more active. Hoping for the best.

High blood pressure is common after surgery. For those that had a birth defect the heart is functioning normal for the first time. Likely no doctor will confirm this but I've read studies high blood pressure

Do most TAVR patients go for a heart rehabilitation programme or therapy after their surgery? My 83 year old mother had just undergone this procedure. The operation was a success..She is now in hospital and feels fit to be discharged.

First of all, I am not into extracurriclar activities such as sports, during the summer I do ride a bike more often to avoid having to take public transit and do not work doing roofing and similar heavy lifiting jobs. So I would expect the bio prosthetic valve to last almost 15 yrs or more. Question is, depending on size of blood vessel for the aortic valve (ie 25 mm) can a 23 mm be used on top of it when the time comes? Or does the 25 mm have to be surgically removed?

    • @koolaidblack7697

I asked a similar question for a relative of mine while we were talking to her doctors about TAVR, and in short he said the plan would be to put another one in with the same exact procedure, no removal necessary.

I have being asking myself the same question, the two questions I have to ask is how many TAVR's have you done and what brand of device do you use, the older or early one's leaked around the outside, is the device the latest design and tried and tested. that is what I have come up with. The first Cardio I seen was an Idiot and only offered me SAVR, I asked him what options do I have and received no reply.

Have chest pain when forward bending while standing + running after my toddler grand child. Worried its time for valve surgery and know an angio is in my future but have stupid high LDL.
