Very good question. In my time visiting Warrnambool it wasn't uncommon in that era to have a spare loco stabled near the station.

Five carriages and a goods van. Hmm... Fourteen years later, we get 4 carriages and no goods van as standard rake. Last saw a classic streamliner at Warrnambool circa 2013 at Merrivale container yard; A81 ex B81; scrapped now :~((

A71 was the last A class to run the Warrnambool and was the last freight hauled by an A class. That was 6 years ago.

Warrnambool Yard has changed #ALOT these days, the Former WCR Carriage Maintenance Workshop & sidings was/were still standing as evidenced here Jan. 2006 (some 16Mths since WCR ceased operations on Tues. 31. Aug. 2004) ~ it was removed entirely & no trace of it ever having existed, by June 2006 at the latest, a new siding around 2015 was constructed / relaid to stable & clean the 17:13 Down Pass Arrival for forming a 09:05 Up Pass Next Morning Mon. - Fri. ...

Victorian Rail Heritage ~ sadly it was full of asbestos & falling down thru years of neglect, they were meant to preserve some of the timber frame work, but just like the timber arches of the Hopkins River Bridge were to be preserved & DISPLAYED, nothing has ever come of both commitments that were made...

The three S classes in preservation and operational for tours, I think S310 at the SRHC is under an overhaul as well, and only a week ago S307 was sold to the SRHC too, wondering if it will operate again.
