(Minneapolis MN) I enjoyed your video. I am 65 going through chemotherapy and my hair has started to fall out in my brush more and more everyday now. I wanted to do something to mark the occasion before I go bald and I love the idea of a small braid in a glass container. Before much more falls out I will cut a lock or two and secure the cut end. I think I will use glue on some silk ribbon or thread and a jewel in the end. I like your idea of using some dried flowers maybe lavender in it too. I know my hair will eventually grow back. When I was 14 my mom took me to the beauty parlor for a new hairstyle to start high school. They cut about a 6in piece to create bangs. I still have that piece and may do the same. I considered making some kind of flat basketweaving to frame but I like your idea better. 💐
My mother got breast cancer and had PBC but they still gave her a round of chemo. Made her terribly sick and her hair all fell out. Ended up getting a double mastectomy after a failed lumpectomy and got clean margins. A couple years later (last january) she was diagnosed with a new liver cancer and after a successful lesion removal from her liver, she succumbed to poor hospital conditions where they failed to get her antibiotics after her surgery and died quite quickly and suddenly from septic shock. It was devastating, as she never got to meet her grandson who was two months away from being born. My dad was getting rid of stuff and didn't need a vacuum he hadn't used in a while and didn't work. I cleaned out a whole quart baggie of nothing but my Mama's salt and pepper hair from the chemo and had tears of joy and sadness because I knew she survived her cancer twice and got to know our 3 year old daughter. I am glad I see there isn't anything wrong with keeping it, and now that I know how to preserve it better, maybe it won't seem so creepy.
What a beautiful idea! I actually have some human hair lying around in a little baggy that I might try a similar thing on, so thank you for the idea! And what you said about hair going mouldy is so true - that can actually happen to dreadlocks whilst still attached to the person's head if they go to bed with wet hair. :s
Nice tutorial! If you ever want to learn how to make traditional Victorian hair flowers, Courtney Lane from Hair and Now teaches the old ways! Your video got recommended to me after one of her videos. I bet you two would get along!
there is so much that can be done with hair as a artistic medium. look up victorian era mourning jewellery and you will see hundreds of amazing things made out of human hair.
I'm going to be doing this this weekend with some hair of my sisters and mom. I'm making up a small collection of different things for my nieces and nephews for christmas this year and I'm going to add this to them
You mentioned that there are free for download Victorian era book online can you please tell me some links I can go to to download them. I design Victorian Era mourning jewlery and its one of my favorite era's. I would like to download the books to my tablet. I would be grateful for the info
a few hours is more then fine :) i say that fresh hair does not need washed becasue usually humans keep their hair well washed. if you are using hair from a person who had been in the hospital or had a long illness that prevented them from practicing proper hygiene for a long time before passing, then it would be a good idea to wash the hair.

Lovely idea, I think a little silk bow to cover the band would make it look more Victorian. Thank you for the ideas!

Great video! What size vials did you use?

You mentioned that you don't have to wash fresh enough hair, is a few hours fresh enough? Or would I need to wash it?
a few hours is more then fine :)
