- In this episode, I'll overhaul the electrical system on my 1981 BMW R100 CS. Over 42 years old, several wires were badly corroded, some of the sub looms had been lashed together, and the alternator needed new brushes.
Great stuff, really looking forward to upcoming episodes and seeing her come back to life! 👏👍😀🏍
All starting to come together now. More videos on the way soon. Thanks for watching.
Another enjoyable/interesting insight RM…interested to know where your knowledge comes from? Looking forward to the completion video! Atb, Alan
Thank you Alan. Mostly from a lifetime of breaking things 😂
WM it will be interesting to see Part 2 of the MWH condition & whether to simply replace all the wires & use new terminals/connectors?
I think some of the terminals could do with replacing. I need to get stuck into it. Hopefully it’s not too bad 🤞 Thsnks for watching.
Another electrifying WM vid!!
Good to know you have a stack load of bits all ready for imminent reassembly........coz the days/nights are getting ever colder in the garage......guess you won't want to be out there in the depths of winter with frozen nuts......and bolts, of course!
😂 Weirdly, I quite like working in the cold. I can’t deal with a hot garage. Just got to bolt it all together now. What could possibly go wrong! I having a great time rummaging through hundreds of sandwich bags trying to decipher my terrible notes from 9 months ago.
@@WildlifeMoto "Weirdly, I quite like working in the cold". I didn't mind when I was younger (and more enthusiastic), but nowadays my old bones can't take the cold anymore, so unless it's a desperate repair that needs doing, I tend to leave it until it's a bit warmer. Maybe the same will happen to you as you advance in years doooood!!!
I suspect I may need to do something similar. Just got an 81 R100 and the headlight, tail light and dash lights don't work when running. Ohhhhboy.
Grab a multimeter and test the resistance between the two slip rings. Also the y terminal and three phase outputs. The reference numbers are in the Clymers. That would be a good place to start. Good luck.
thanks!@@WildlifeMoto
Really enjoying this series...well explained and interesting🙌
Cheers Gary. Thank you for watching 👍
Missed this one, all up to date now.
Really starting to come together now.
Cheers Paul. Yes starting to feel like progress finally. Still some way to go but enjoying it.
Well done, great effort
Cheers. Thanks for watching. 👍
nice job
Thanks 🙏
My first job was an Auto electrician,,we used to recondition DC generators and starters ,,we never did anything with Alternators ,we always fitted stock recondition units.. I think you would have been better just getting a replacement unit ....
Hopefully it will continue working for a while. I can understand that billable hours vs cost of replacement might not stack up. Thankfully my own time is free. I can pick up used units for around £150 if I get any problems. Fingers crossed it’s all ok.
