Love this!! Could you leave the lamp intact and just be sure to use an LED bulb to make a balloon tower that doubles as a lighting element?
There would still be an element of heat, but I'd be curious to see if it'd work.
You can leave the lamp intact and either stop the balloons before they cover the lamp shade or shove some battery operated fairy lights in the lampshade :)

Idiotic. No WAY is this the most cost effective way to do this. You're paying for the lamp electronics, ripping them out and throwing them in the garbage. You could probably find something that would do this job on Amazon or Ebay for a fraction of the cost.
