MYRKUR (Amalie Bruun) returns with her highly anticipated new album, Spine! The new album is a tour-de-force, amalgamating some of the most exciting, innovative, and genre-defying moments from MYRKUR's catalog into something that is haunting, extreme, and brilliant as ever. Spine lays MYRKUR bare, at her most raw and unwavering, and is undoubtedly one of the year's most ambitious and cinematic albums. Spine relates to MYRKUR's personal mythology. Written during one of the most difficult times in Amalie Bruun's life - Spine is the direct result of her experiences following child birth. From the love and euphoria that comes with motherhood, to the fears of the unknown and the mysteries of the journey ahead, Spine is ultimately an album about seeking balance amidst chaos. To Bruun/MYRKUR, the record explores the very human nature of what it means to be a mother, and finds resonances with Scandinavian mythology to do so. Recorded with Randall Dunn at the Sundlaughin Studio in Iceland (Sigur Rós) - the ebbs and flows in Spine reflect the width and breadth of MYRKUR's emotion. These sonic shifts are represented in music that sees MYRKUR touch upon an array of influences - from undeniable metal as heard on the inimitable "Valkyriernes Sang", to darker sonic territories inspired by folk and haunting vocal passages on "Like Humans''. Elsewhere, the brooding "Mothlike" showcases a new side of MYRKUR's sensibilities, with touches of electronic underpinnings and lush synth orchestrations. Spine's title track proves to be one of the most moving songs of the year, as it transcends through moments of affable, delicate vocal, percussive, and string arrangements to a massive chorus that serves as a thesis statement for the rest of the album. MYRKUR's euphoric outlook is in full display here, as the song proclaims, "My body made your spine / You and I intertwine / You made me human / Stay with me / You will be / The one I love the most". With Spine, MYRKUR unravels the next chapter in the personal mythology of Amalie Bruun, and sets a new course for the enigmatic band. credits
I remember the first time I listened to Myrkur. I really liked it but I can recall the whole drama about her. Close minded people speaking about her not belonging to metal etc. Im glad she has proved to be a very creative composer and an unique sound. Loving this album.
Interesting...sounds like dream pop/shoegaze with a backbone of metal. That chorus is insanely beautiful, I can see this recorded with just bass and distorted/ethereal guitar rhythms, much with the same effect...maybe even better. She's never doing the same thing twice, which is really cool.
its possible we may get some of that. I read a while ago that she had some surprises in the new album for her older fans, unfortunately I can't find the article. I think we will get something to appease both sides. I guess we will see in the next single she puts out.
This is absolutely gorgeous. Hope there's something a bit heavier on the new record too but honestly I love everything she does. Can't wait for the album!
I just found this band, and while sharing it i've been telling everyone this is Enya, but in metal lol. Someone else hears Enya in this! Glad i'm not the only one that hears that.
wish the guitars and drums were louder in the mix, but otherwise a great song IMO and I am glad she added some of the old sound to create something new and awesome!
❤ I love everything she's done. I also love that she's not at all afraid to try new ideas and stretch her wings musically. I'll be buying this on vinyl for sure.
I am in love with the chorus. She builds tension by varying the endings, perfectly releasing at the end. And the melody is catchy and pleasant. I have checked out a couple of her other recent songs, and has returned to this one. She masterfully controls the sound.
As always, Mrykur delivers another side of infinite possibilities. Love this track and as a long term fan, enjoying the development and change in every album.
if it wasn't for the song, Of Blood And Water i would have never hear of her. if it would not because of you tube would be able to here such a beautiful voice and to her music. sorry to be so late in her music
Yeah I have been trying promoting her she is so good, Cradle Of Filth Dimmu Borgir, Myrkur, and Spirit Possessed. Are my favorite artists in the black metal space right now.
@@digitalmouse3314 Cradle of Filth hasn't recorded a black metal album since roughly 1998. Unless something has changed? I would love to know. I used to be a bit fan years ago.
Just when I thought it's going to be a "light doom" song all the way, the part at 3:46 blasts in. Damn amazing! Honestly was expecting this kind of sound considering your latest work and collaborations. Can't wait to hear the whole album! Go Amalie! 🔥🔥
I can't wait to hear the entire collection of songs. When pulled out, singles can be deceiving. I really hope that I am patient enough and that his warrants a tour to the US.
Wooooow😯. What a beautiful piece of art! Listening to Myrkur since the beginning and I love the way, how the sound developes😍. Beautiful and alos not forgetting the dark roots, where it came from. THANK YOU, for this song, this made my day! Looking forward to the whole album :)

Impressed! Been a fan since first EP and I'm very glad, that you continue to evolve your sound. Can't wait to hear the full album🔥 Greetings from Ukraine!
I miss the harsh black metal vocals and guitar of her early work though. Don't get me wrong, I liked Folksange, but I hope for this new album and the future more presence of harsh bm vocals and guitars and drums, it would be a beautiful balance with her recent folk songs. \m/
This is leaps and bounds heavier than her last album, her last album was literally Folk/Traditional music There's plenty of other artists out there doing heavier stuff, I find this to be a breath of fresh air in all fairness! If you fancy a band to check out who are heavy and folky I'd definitely recommend checking out Cân Bardd
@@Venombullet666 Thanks for recommendation I liked Myrkur's both folk and metal songs, something between those two styles in this new song doesn't sound so unique

Song is full of ancient spirits and feelings of nordic atmosphere 🤘
She's uniquely herself. And that's the highest compliment I could give. I love her
I also love her

This is one of my favs from the album, that chorus is perfection!!!
What an etheric, beautiful composition; lyrically, emotionally and tonally....

It's pushing further what Germ did. It's always refreshing to find such goodness
The chorus is from Madonna song 3:18

@Bstizzle1 I mean I absolutely adored her last 2 albums but I do miss songs like skaði

Did not expect the blastbeats during the final chorus, great song! Looking forward to this record!
Magical and dark. I love it.
Nothing about this is either of those things, sorry your tastes suck.

This was a bit of a surprise. To say that I am looking forward to this album would be a major understatement. This is wonderful music in all respects.

The voice melody in the beginning reminds me to Nirvana a little bit. Don't come for me xD
3:47 hits really hard

What a nice song for a trip in a forest while smoking some weed and drinking beer
