04:34 to 05:40 was great. You sure channeled Jimmy. LOL! If I didnt know better I´d think it was an alternate tuning, too. I know you hear it often, but well done, Sir.
Love your lessons and how they come from a place of your own personal intrigue and desire to create new things based on your inspirations. Great concept
Hey Mark hope you're having a great day. Always enjoy your videos and picked up some tips along the way. I was wondering if you ever did a video like a rig run down. You get some great tone most of the time. I also realize that tone comes from the fingers but just like to know what kind of overdrives and tools players are using. Thanks for the time you dedicate.👍
Welcome to my nightmare by Alice Cooper has that haunting vibe also, Dick Wagner said he was sitting by a beach and came up with that intro. Another informative lesson as usual.
Thanks! Yes, definitely. I'd say it's in a different way though - not as heavy as Zep or as scary as Sabbath, but eerie for sure. Dick Wagner ... one of the best and still relatively unknown.
I saw the School’s Out tour in 1972, and the Billion Dollar Babies tour in ‘73. Lost interest in Alice Cooper after that as trends in rock were changing in the mid ‘70s and I liked just about none of it by that time. Love it to Death, their best album IMO.
Thanks! I improvised the jam, so I haven't got the tabs yet. I'll probably be posting them on the member site in the Mark Z's Studio section - once I write it down, that is. (Funny concept, learning one's own improvised solo.)
Thanks Mark I just caught this episode....I'm throwing in Pinball Wizard since you brought up Pete Townsend..... Excellent lesson as always, Cheers 🍻 Mark! 🖤 Kris IL 🦋
Never understood why Satan gets any credit for anything creative in music. The ability to make and play and even enjoy and appreciate music comes from the Creator, Himself, God.
If you care to know, you can read all about the history of the tritone and why it is called "diabolus in musica" (The Devil's interval) if you care to here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tritone. Certainly Black Sabbath used it in their song "Black Sabbath" for that purpose, but historically it's just because it wasn't considered "beautiful", as it's classically dissonant.
@@MarkZabel I understand all that, Mark. I’m 65 and have been around the block more than enough times. Again, there’s nothing “demonic” about melodies and chord progressions and notes on a guitar, organ, piano, horns or bass, vocals, etc., (not talking about lyrical content) unless one, for what ever reason, and in their own opinion, decides to deem it as such. As for Black Sabbath, if they willingly (and I don’t know whether they do or not) dedicate their songs to the destroyer of our lives, our souls, the entity who hates God and human beings, Satan, well then, that would be their decision. But even THAT doesn’t make the music itself “demonic.” That would only be a matter of opinion, whether “officially” labeled by some or by many this is 100% irrelevant. Again, it’s only a matter of opinion by those who choose to deem it as “demonic.” Albeit, the musical harmonies and notes themselves, in reality, have nothing at all to do with the devil (see my original response). FYI, I had Black Sabbath’s albums when they first came out as a brand new band. Musically, they were incredible, up until Volume 4. P.S. I can provide evidence for you that there is no such thing as a “demonic” note or a set of scales or that making certain sounds or melodies with musical instruments is “demonic” if you are interested. I will use the Scriptures (the Bible) to prove my statements as being factual.

Glad you didn't have to go to the cross road Like Robert Johnson to find the secret.
LOL! Love it!
Mark has his scary Halloween music all figured out already!! :>) Jim C.
LOL! It gets scarier. I took out the Phrygian mode stuff. Too much for one video!
@@MarkZabel What is this that stands before me..............
@@jimc6687 Yes, among many that came later. Really stands out for its time.
Uli Jon Roth, Sails of Charon uses so many diminished chords. He begins the first solo on tritones! Great lesson as always Mark!
Thanks! Yes!! Uli John Roth. Wasn't even thinking of him, so thanks for the reminder.

LOL with the dragon pants! Thanks Trevor!!
Poppy field print, on the white & Black stage outfits...( does look like dragons until I looked up who made the white & the black stage outfits)
By the way love that reverse headstock double humbucker Tele Mark, Charvel guitars are so great.
I'm totally digging this Charvel since I got it back from the shop.

Great idea! I'll do that sometime soon.
Nice playing, Mark. More on Paul Kossoff, please.
Thanks and will do!
👍👍
Thanks!
Hendrix’ purple haze opening is octave tritones to begin the initial lick.
Yes indeed. Quite shocking for its time.
